If your Android phone feels dull, you may not need a new launcher: KWGT Kustom Widget Maker lets you build and customize home-screen widgets while keeping your existing launcher. Start with a preset, make a few small changes, and add useful information or a new visual style without rebuilding the whole home screen.
What KWGT changes—and what it doesn’t
KWGT is a widget-making app, not a launcher. A launcher controls the broader home-screen experience; KWGT focuses on the widgets placed on it. That makes it a practical option if you want a custom clock, weather display, music control, or other glanceable information but do not want to replace your launcher.
Kustom Industries’ Google Play listing describes tools for creating widgets from a blank canvas or starter skins. It lists text, shapes, images, layers, effects, touch actions, weather, clocks, music, system information, formulas, and Tasker integration. How to make a first KWGT widget
Menus vary by Android version, phone maker, and launcher, but the basic workflow is to place a KWGT widget on the home screen, choose its size, and open the editor by tapping the blank widget.

- Add a widget: Open your home screen’s editing or widgets interface, find KWGT, and place a widget size that fits the space you want to use.
- Open the editor: Tap the newly placed blank widget. If prompted, choose a preset or starter skin rather than building from an empty canvas.
- Make a few edits: Change only a small number of elements at first, such as the displayed text, color, font, or position. This makes it easier to see what each setting does.
- Save a restore point: Before experimenting further, save a copy or restore point. The Android Police article syndicated by Yahoo Tech reports that the editor has no undo control, so a saved version gives you a way back if an edit goes wrong. Read the syndicated article.
Choose KWGT when you want control without a launcher swap
The trade-off is depth versus ease. KWGT offers extensive control over a widget’s appearance and content, but its editor has a learning curve. If you only want a quick change, start from an existing preset or widget pack and limit your first edits. If you want to build a detailed design from scratch, expect to spend more time learning how its elements and settings work.
KWGT is aimed at static or glanceable widget customization. The Android Police article says it offers less animation customization than Kustom’s separate KLWP live-wallpaper tool. That distinction matters if motion and animated wallpaper effects are your main goal; for clocks, information panels, and interactive widget elements, KWGT’s focus is more relevant.

Free app and optional Pro Key
Google Play lists the base KWGT app as free with ads and in-app purchases. The base listing describes widget creation features, so the Pro Key is not presented as a prerequisite for making widgets. The separate Pro Key listing says it unlocks ad removal, importing from SD or external skins, and preset recovery; it also says the base KWGT app is required. The US Google Play page displayed $6.99 when checked on October 7, 2026. Price and availability may change, so check the listing for your market before buying. Some widget content depends on access to data or services. Location-based weather, for example, may need location permission to show local conditions. Grant only the permissions needed for the features you choose; if a location-dependent widget cannot display its data, review its permission in Android settings.

Frequently refreshed live information can also have battery trade-offs. The syndicated article reports this as a practical caution, not a measured battery benchmark. If battery life matters more than continuously current information, use content that refreshes less often or omit live-data elements you do not need.
For Health Connect data used by the app’s fitness functions, Kustom Industries’ Google Play description says: “All data is processed locally—your health info never leaves your device.” That is the developer’s statement, not an independently verified finding. Is KWGT the right fix for a boring home screen?
- Try it if you want a more personal clock, weather panel, music widget, or information display without changing launchers.
- Begin with presets if you value a quick result more than designing every detail yourself.
- Expect a learning curve if you plan to build complex widgets or use formulas and layered effects.
- Look elsewhere within Kustom’s tools if animation customization is the central goal rather than home-screen widgets.
- Check the Pro Key’s specific extras before paying; its listing highlights importing and recovery features, not basic widget creation.
