Krovatar plans to launch three 4K UHD Blu-ray players before the end of 2026: the full-size KBU-500, plus two USB-C-powered portable models, the KB-100X and KB-100XH. US and European sales of the KBU-500 are planned for December, while the portable players are expected earlier. Prices and some specifications remain unconfirmed until official listings appear.
What Krovatar is launching
Chinese electronics brand Krovatar announced the trio in a report dated 9 October 2026. The range is notable because dedicated 4K disc players have become harder to find: Notebookcheck’s IFA coverage described Panasonic as the only major manufacturer still active, while Yamaha said current sales volumes do not justify a new 4K player. What Hi-Fi? similarly characterized the market as a “deserted town from a Western movie” after Pioneer and Reavon exited.
Krovatar already sells the KBU-300. The new KBU-500 is its replacement, and the company is also adding portable hardware rather than offering only another living-room deck.

KBU-500: the living-room flagship
Design and controls
The KBU-500 has a 16.9-inch-wide aluminium chassis. Its high-contrast front OLED display is paired with physical play, stop, eject, forward, backward and power buttons, so basic playback does not depend on a remote control or an on-screen menu.

Disc compatibility
Krovatar lists support for 4K UHD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, BD-R, BD-RE, DVD, DVD-Video and AVCHD. The player also supports 5.1-channel audio from Multi-Channel SACD, CD, DVD-Audio, Pure Audio and the unusual 2222+ format. The list is broader than a basic movie-only deck, although the practical value of the specialist formats will depend on the discs and audio system you already own.
Video, surround sound and connections
Krovatar says the KBU-500 supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+ alongside Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. Two HDMI outputs can be useful when a television and an older AV receiver need separate connections. Coaxial and optical digital audio, USB 3.0, Ethernet and RS232C provide additional integration options for home-theater systems and control hardware.

- Keep things simple with the new user-friendly interface
The universal 100–240 V, 50/60 Hz power supply is suitable for both US and European electrical systems. Krovatar has not published a final price; the current expectation is that it will cost more than the KBU-300’s roughly €400 level.
KB-100X and KB-100XH: portable disc playback
Power-bank operation
Both portable models accept USB-C power at 12 V and can operate from a compatible power bank. Krovatar estimates that a standard 37 Wh pack—specified as 10,000 mAh at 3.7 V—provides about 4.5 hours of Blu-ray playback or five hours of CD playback. Those figures are the company’s estimates for that stated battery capacity, not an independent runtime test. A power bank must support the required 12 V Power Delivery profile; a USB-C connector alone does not guarantee compatibility.

Headphone options
Both players support Bluetooth headphones or earbuds. The $329 KB-100XH adds a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a 4.4 mm balanced audio jack, making it the more flexible choice for wired listening. The announcement does not identify any other difference between the two portable models, so buyers should not assume that the H version has a different display, drive mechanism or HDR feature without a final specification sheet.
Release plans
The US prices reported for 2026 are $329 for the KB-100X and $359 for the KB-100XH. Krovatar plans to release the portable models before the KBU-500, with the KB-100XH expected in Europe later in 2026. No separate European date was provided for the KB-100X, and retailer availability has not yet been confirmed.

How Krovatar compares with players available now
If you need a player immediately, waiting for an announced launch carries a real availability risk. What Hi-Fi?’s January 2026 buying guide positions Panasonic’s DP-UB820 as its best overall choice and Sony’s UBP-X700 as its affordable pick. The DP-UB820 supports HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. Existing Panasonic and Sony stock therefore offers a known purchase path, while Krovatar’s final prices, retailer listings and portable-model specifications are still provisional.

What is still unconfirmed
- Final KBU-500 pricing and the exact price in each sales region.
- Whether the KB-100X and KB-100XH support Dolby Vision, HDR10+, Dolby Atmos or DTS:X.
- Complete dimensions, screen details, disc-format lists and connection specifications for both portable players.
- Official retailer listings, stock quantities and the precise European launch date for each model.
- Whether Krovatar will offer an affiliate or other retail program; no such program is established in the announcement.
No independent market-size or sales figure was published alongside the announcement, so the effect of these launches on the wider disc-player market cannot yet be quantified.
Should you wait?
Wait for Krovatar if you specifically want a new full-size player with a front display, dual HDMI and the company’s claimed Dolby Vision, HDR10+, Atmos and DTS:X support, or if portable playback from a USB-C power bank is the deciding feature. Buy an established Panasonic or Sony model instead if you need confirmed compatibility and stock before December 2026. In either case, verify the regional listing, power requirements, warranty and final specification sheet before ordering; the Krovatar details currently available are announcement-stage information.
