For most European users, Coinbase is the cheaper option for withdrawing euros because it states that SEPA withdrawals have no Coinbase fee. Kraken’s listed SEPA deposits are also free, but its EUR withdrawals carry a route-specific €0.90 or €1 fee. Kraken can be faster when an Instant SEPA route is available; Coinbase publishes a typical one-to-three-business-day window for both directions. The route, country, verification status and bank details shown in your own account determine the final result.
Kraken and Coinbase compared at a glance
Both exchanges support euro transfers through the Single European Payment Area (SEPA). SEPA is the common bank-transfer rail, but neither exchange promises exactly the same processor, fee, limit or speed for every European country and account. The figures below are the published guidance available in 2026; your funding screen is the controlling source when you initiate a transfer.
| Criterion | Kraken | Coinbase |
|---|---|---|
| EUR deposit fee | Listed SEPA routes are free | No Coinbase fee for SEPA deposits |
| EUR deposit minimum | €1 on listed SEPA methods | No minimum stated in the cited guidance; account instructions apply |
| Deposit timing | Zero to three business days or instant, depending on method | Typically one to three business days |
| EUR withdrawal fee | €0.90 or €1 on listed methods | No fee for the SEPA withdrawal method |
| Withdrawal timing | Zero to five business days or near-instant, depending on method | Typically one to three business days |
| Bank verification | Limits depend on verification level; processor and country also matter | A successful SEPA deposit is required to verify a bank account before withdrawal |
| Published limit guidance | Account-specific limits based on verification | Default Coinbase Exchange fiat-withdrawal limit of €100,000 per day; EUR SEPA deposits are listed as unlimited |
“Free” refers to the exchange’s stated fee. Your bank or an intermediary can apply its own charge, and a particular processor may not be available in your country. Check the confirmation screen immediately before sending money.
Which exchange is cheaper for depositing euros?
Kraken deposits
Kraken lists free EUR deposits on its SEPA methods, with a €1 minimum on the listed routes. The published processing range is zero to three business days, while some methods can be instant. Kraken’s support statement says that a bank account within SEPA may use any of the SEPA deposit methods that Kraken makes available to that account.

The word “listed” matters. Kraken presents several processor routes, including Bank Frick, Banking Circle, Openpayd, Plaid and Ivy. Availability can be restricted by country, account status or the processor’s own coverage. A route that appears for one European customer may not appear for another, so do not assume that every processor or instant option is available to you.
Coinbase deposits
Coinbase states that it charges no Coinbase fee for SEPA deposits. Its current help guidance gives a typical one-to-three-business-day completion time. The cited guidance does not state a universal minimum deposit amount; follow the amount and reference instructions displayed for your account.
Coinbase requires the bank-account name and payment reference details to be correct. A missing or incorrect reference, or a name mismatch, can delay the credit. The bank account used for a deposit is also important because Coinbase uses a completed SEPA deposit to verify that account before allowing withdrawals to it.
Deposit verdict
On the exchange fee alone, the two are effectively tied: both describe SEPA deposits as free. Kraken has a published €1 minimum and may present an instant route; Coinbase publishes a clearer typical time window but no minimum in the cited guidance. Choose based on the route and instructions actually shown after you select EUR funding, not on a general country assumption.
Which exchange is cheaper and faster for withdrawing euros?
Kraken withdrawals
Kraken’s current support table lists a €0.90 or €1 fee for its EUR withdrawal methods. The same table gives a range from zero to five business days, with near-instant processing on supported Instant SEPA routes. The exact fee and speed depend on the processor selected for your account.

A near-instant label does not mean every withdrawal will arrive immediately. It indicates that the selected route is designed for rapid processing when the bank, processor and account are eligible. If only a standard SEPA route is offered, the longer published range applies.
Coinbase withdrawals
Coinbase states that it charges no fee for a SEPA withdrawal method and that withdrawals typically take one to three business days. Coinbase’s no-fee statement concerns Coinbase’s charge; the receiving bank may have separate policies.

Before the first withdrawal, Coinbase requires a successful SEPA deposit to verify the bank account. This is a practical sequencing requirement: add the account by making a compliant deposit, wait for it to complete, then select that verified account for the withdrawal.
Withdrawal verdict
Coinbase has the lower published exchange fee for a normal SEPA withdrawal. Kraken can be the speed winner when an Instant SEPA route is displayed, but its withdrawal fee is not zero on the listed methods. If predictable cost is your priority, Coinbase’s stated no-fee method is the simpler benchmark; if speed is more important, compare the live Kraken route with the Coinbase estimate before confirming.
What SEPA support means in practice
SEPA support does not create one identical product across Europe. Each exchange can connect to different payment processors, and each processor can impose country, currency, verification or transaction rules. Your residence, the location of the bank account, the legal name on the account and the verification level can all affect which route appears.

- Country: A route may be limited to particular European jurisdictions.
- Processor: The provider shown beside the method determines the available timing and fee.
- Verification: Kraken says limits depend on verification level; Coinbase requires a completed SEPA deposit before withdrawal verification.
- Bank details: The account holder name and any payment reference must match the exchange’s instructions.
- Live availability: Funding screens can change as processors, limits and compliance rules change.
Neither exchange’s published guidance provides a universal country-by-country promise. Treat the in-account EUR funding page as the authoritative offer for your account on the day you transact.

The labels can change as Kraken updates its interface, but the sequence is consistent: select EUR, choose a deposit method, then send a bank transfer using the exact beneficiary and reference data supplied.
- Open the funding area. Sign in, go to the account’s funding or deposit section and select EUR.
- Review every method. Compare the processors and look for the stated fee, minimum and estimated arrival time. Select a SEPA option available to your country.
- Copy the payment instructions. Record the beneficiary name, IBAN or other bank details, required reference and any processor-specific wording exactly as displayed.
- Send the transfer from your bank. Use an account held in the same legal name as your Kraken account where the instructions require it. Enter at least the displayed €1 minimum for a listed method.
- Keep the confirmation. Save the bank receipt and the Kraken deposit reference until the balance is credited.
- Check the account balance. Standard routes can take up to the published range; an instant route is dependent on processor and bank eligibility.
Do not combine instructions from different processors. If you switch methods, generate and use the new beneficiary and reference details rather than reusing an older transfer template.
How to withdraw euros from Kraken to a European bank
- Confirm eligibility. Complete the verification steps requested by Kraken and open the EUR withdrawal screen.
- Choose the bank route. Select an available SEPA or Instant SEPA method and inspect the fee, estimated timing and minimum or maximum shown for your account.
- Add or select the bank account. Enter the recipient details exactly as required. The beneficiary name should correspond to the verified account information.
- Enter the amount. Check the net amount after the listed €0.90 or €1 route fee and make sure the requested amount is within your account limit.
- Confirm security checks. Complete any email, authenticator or other confirmation prompted by the account.
- Track the transfer. Keep the withdrawal ID and wait for the bank credit. If the route is standard, allow the full published window before treating it as late.
If Kraken offers both standard and Instant SEPA routes, compare the displayed fee and arrival estimate. The instant choice can be useful for a time-sensitive payment, while the standard route may be the only option for some countries or accounts.
How to deposit euros to Coinbase through SEPA
- Select EUR funding. In Coinbase, open the payment or funding area and choose a bank transfer or SEPA deposit.
- Read the account-specific instructions. Note the beneficiary, IBAN and unique reference. The cited Coinbase guidance does not set a universal minimum, so follow the amount rules shown in your account.
- Match the account name. Send the money from a bank account whose holder details satisfy Coinbase’s instructions. A mismatch can delay crediting.
- Include the reference. Enter the exact reference supplied by Coinbase in the bank transfer’s reference or message field.
- Wait for settlement. Coinbase describes SEPA deposits as typically taking one to three business days. Keep the bank receipt until the balance appears.
- Verify the bank account. A successfully completed SEPA deposit is required before Coinbase verifies that account for withdrawals.
Sending from an unsupported account, omitting the reference or editing the beneficiary details can make the transfer difficult to match. Contact support with the transfer receipt if the expected window passes.

How to withdraw euros from Coinbase to a European bank
- Complete a qualifying deposit first. Use the bank account you intend to withdraw to and wait until the SEPA deposit has completed and the account is verified.
- Open EUR withdrawal. Select the verified bank account as the destination.
- Check the displayed limit. Coinbase’s published default Coinbase Exchange fiat-withdrawal limit is €100,000 per day, but an account can show different restrictions.
- Review the confirmation page. Confirm the destination, amount, currency and any bank-side information before submitting. Coinbase states that it does not charge a fee for the SEPA withdrawal method.
- Submit and retain the ID. Save the withdrawal confirmation and monitor the receiving account.
- Allow the normal window. Coinbase’s stated typical completion time is one to three business days. Bank holidays, compliance review or incorrect details can extend the practical wait.
Verification, limits and account eligibility
Kraken
Kraken does not publish one universal EUR limit that applies to every customer in the cited guidance. It says limits depend on verification level, processor and geography. A higher verification level can therefore change the amount or route available, but the applicable figure must be read in your account.
Before making a large transfer, open both the deposit and withdrawal views and record the displayed minimum, maximum, fee and processing estimate. Limits can differ by direction: the amount you may deposit is not necessarily the amount you may withdraw.
Coinbase
Coinbase lists EUR SEPA deposits as unlimited in the cited limits guidance and gives a default €100,000-per-day fiat-withdrawal limit for Coinbase Exchange. “Default” is not a guarantee that every account can withdraw that amount. Identity checks, account history, jurisdiction and temporary risk controls can reduce an account’s usable limit.
The bank-verification rule is separate from the daily limit. Even an account below the limit must first complete a successful SEPA deposit to verify the bank account used for withdrawal.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhat to do when a transfer is delayed
The deposit does not appear
- Compare the sent currency and beneficiary with the current instructions; do not assume an old IBAN or reference is still valid.
- Check that the payment came from an account whose name meets the exchange’s requirements.
- Confirm that the bank marked the transfer as completed rather than pending or rejected.
- Wait through the stated processing window before escalating, then provide the exchange with the bank receipt, amount, date and reference.
The withdrawal is pending
- Check whether you selected a standard or instant route and use that route’s estimate.
- Review the destination account details and any security confirmation still awaiting action.
- Look for a compliance or verification request in the exchange account.
- Contact the exchange if the transfer exceeds the published window, quoting the withdrawal ID rather than submitting duplicates.
The bank rejects the payment
Ask the bank why the transfer was rejected and retain its return notice. Do not resend funds until the exchange confirms the correct beneficiary, reference and route. Repeatedly sending a transfer with stale details can create additional reconciliation work and delay the return.

How to choose between Kraken and Coinbase
Choose Coinbase when predictable withdrawal cost matters
Coinbase’s stated no-fee SEPA withdrawal method is the clearest fit when you regularly move euros to a bank and want to avoid an exchange withdrawal charge. Its typical one-to-three-business-day estimate also gives a straightforward planning window. You must accept the extra setup step of completing a SEPA deposit before the bank account is verified for withdrawal.
Choose Kraken when an instant route is available
Kraken is worth considering when your account displays an Instant SEPA option and arrival speed is more important than the small listed withdrawal fee. Its deposit methods can also be instant. Confirm that the processor is available in your country and that the displayed route supports the amount you need.
Use the live quote for irregular or large transfers
For a one-off payment, the deciding factors are the exact method, fee, limit and estimate shown at confirmation. A nominally free route is not automatically cheaper if your bank charges for the transfer or if a delayed payment creates a separate cost. For a large amount, verify the account’s current limit and consider sending a small test transfer first when practical.

Record-keeping and security checklist
- Save the deposit or withdrawal confirmation, bank receipt, reference and transaction ID.
- Record the euro amount, date, exchange rate used for any conversion and the fee shown by the exchange or bank.
- Use only the beneficiary details displayed after signing in; avoid copying payment instructions from an old email.
- Check the legal name on the bank account before sending.
- Enable the account security controls offered by the exchange and review withdrawal-address or bank-account changes carefully.
- Do not share one-time codes, passwords or full banking credentials with anyone claiming to “release” a transfer.
These records help support locate a transfer and provide the information normally needed for personal accounting or tax reporting. The exchanges’ fee and timing tables are operational guidance, not a promise that every bank will settle a payment on the same schedule.
Final decision
For euro deposits, Kraken and Coinbase both publish free SEPA funding, so the deciding differences are Kraken’s €1 listed minimum and possible instant route versus Coinbase’s typical one-to-three-business-day estimate and account-specific instructions. For withdrawals, Coinbase publishes no SEPA withdrawal fee, while Kraken lists €0.90 or €1 but may offer near-instant processing. Select the exchange whose live funding screen gives you the required country route, limit, fee and arrival estimate, and verify every bank detail before sending.
