Kojima Productions said on September 20, 2026, that PHYSINT is moving forward with Xbox and that its relationship with PlayStation remains strong. The studio issued the statement in response to reporting and online speculation about PHYSINT’s publishing partner, the performance of the Death Stranding franchise, and the project’s plans. Those assurances are the studio’s own account; they are not an independent financial or production audit.
What did Kojima Productions say?
The studio said it usually avoids commenting on online speculation, but chose to respond because the discussion was reaching fans, creative partners, and colleagues. In an English translation reproduced by Inven Global, the statement said: “None of the claims written came from any official or on-the-record source.” It asked readers to treat the claims skeptically.
Kojima Productions also described the studio as healthy and profitable, said PHYSINT was moving forward with Xbox, and said its relationship with PlayStation remained strong. These are statements from the studio, not independently verified figures or findings.

Is Kojima still working with PlayStation?
According to Kojima Productions, its relationship with PlayStation remains strong. That statement does not mean PlayStation is still publishing or funding PHYSINT: the studio says the project is proceeding with Xbox. The announcement therefore distinguishes the continuing relationship from the publishing arrangement for this particular game.

The studio’s statement refers to colleagues with whom it says it has worked for “three decades.” That is the studio’s characterization of the relationship’s duration.
Why did PHYSINT’s publishing arrangement change?
A definitive official explanation has not been given in the sources reviewed. In an interview reported by The Washington Post, Kojima said Sony told the studio in mid-June 2026 that it would stop funding PHYSINT, and that Sony gave no reason. Kojima Productions later found a new publisher in Xbox.

Reports have discussed budget, schedule, profitability, and exclusivity as possible factors. Those are reported theories, not confirmed reasons from Sony or Kojima Productions. The studio’s statement says the claims were not based on official or on-the-record sources; it does not explain why the publishing arrangement changed.

What is known about PHYSINT’s development?
In the same interview, Kojima told The Washington Post that the project had a written plot and concept, including storyboards. He said the studio had begun making 3D models and scanning actors, and was testing game engines without making a final engine choice.

Those interview details do not establish a release date, launch window, final platform list, or that the game has reached finished production milestones. The September statement confirms the studio’s position that development is continuing with Xbox, but gives no schedule or further production specifics.

The Washington Post also reproduced part of the studio’s reassurance: “While we recognize the article may have caused alarm, we want to reassure you all … that the studio is in a healthy, profitable state, development for ‘Physint’ continues to move forward with Xbox and our relationship with PlayStation remains strong.” The ellipsis marks omitted text in the newspaper’s reproduction.
