Kogan Home & Contents Insurance is distributed by Kogan Australia, but Allianz Australia Insurance Limited is the insurer responsible for the policy, assessing claims and paying covered benefits under the current Product Disclosure Statement (PDS). Whether it suits you depends on the cover and limits in your own policy documents—not just the brand name or a headline price.
Who insures Kogan Home & Contents Insurance?
For the policy described in Allianz’s PDS prepared on 30 April 2025, Allianz Australia Insurance Limited is the insurer. The PDS assigns Allianz responsibility for the product, policy, claim assessment and claim payment. Kogan Australia Pty Limited distributes the insurance as Allianz’s agent; Kogan is not responsible for assessing claims or paying benefits. Read the Allianz PDS.
That arrangement does not necessarily apply to every existing customer. Kogan says policies purchased before 16 June 2025 that were underwritten by the previous provider, QBE, have separate information. If you already hold a policy, check its start date, schedule and applicable PDS rather than assuming Allianz is your insurer. Kogan’s Home & Contents Insurance page identifies the distinction.

What does the policy cover?
The current PDS describes cover for buildings and contents damaged or lost through listed insured events. It is a sum-insured contract: you nominate amounts for building and contents, and the policy’s terms, exclusions, selected options, excesses and limits determine what can be paid. It is not an unconditional promise to cover every household loss.
#1 Best Overall
CHOICE’s public review identifies features including legal liability cover of up to $20 million, temporary accommodation for qualifying claims, and settlement by repair, replacement or payment, subject to policy terms and limits. It also lists optional accidental-damage cover and portable contents cover. These feature descriptions are not guarantees that a specific claim will be accepted or paid at a particular amount. See CHOICE’s Kogan review.
Optional cover and limits matter
The PDS lists optional motor burnout, accidental damage, domestic workers’ compensation and portable contents cover. You need to select applicable options, and the schedule and policy wording determine their scope. Kogan describes portable contents cover for items such as phones, cameras and engagement rings away from the insured address, with cover potentially extending to up to 120 continuous days outside Australia. That is conditional optional cover, not automatic protection for every item or trip; check eligibility, limits and exclusions in the applicable PDS and schedule.
Rank #2
CHOICE also notes special conditions for homes unoccupied for more than 60 days. Check the policy wording for what qualifies as unoccupied and what obligations or limits apply to your circumstances.
Your schedule is part of the contract
The PDS says the insurance contract comprises the PDS, your policy schedule and any applicable supplementary or other policy documents. The schedule records details such as insured people, cover selected, policy period, premium, sums insured, liability limits and excesses. Use those documents for your policy rather than relying on a general feature list.
Does Kogan home insurance cover flood?
Whether a particular flood or water-related loss is covered depends on the insured-event wording, exclusions and conditions in the PDS that applies to your policy, as well as your schedule and disclosed circumstances. The available feature summaries do not establish that every flood, run-off or water-damage scenario is covered. Before buying or renewing, check the policy’s exact definitions and exclusions for flood and run-off; do not infer cover from a broad description of insured events.
How do claims work, and what can reviews tell you?
CHOICE lists online and 24/7 phone claim lodgment. It describes settlement options that can include repair, replacement or payment, subject to the sum insured and other limits. Those are process and contract features—not evidence of claim approval rates, settlement speed, fairness or customer satisfaction.

Best Value
Is Kogan Home & Contents cheaper than other insurers?
There is no reliable universal premium or savings figure for this policy. A home insurance quote depends on factors including location, property details, sums insured, selected options, excess and quote date. Individual comments about savings are anecdotes, not controlled comparisons, and older references to promotions should not be treated as current offers.
To compare quotes meaningfully, line up the same:
- Building and contents sums insured.
- Excesses.
- Insured events and exclusions, including the exact flood and run-off wording.
- Optional accidental-damage and portable-items cover.
- Temporary-accommodation and other sublimits.
- Claim settlement methods and relevant limits.
- Renewal premium against any introductory offer, if one is actually available to you.
Compare the resulting quotes and read each insurer’s PDS and schedule. A lower headline premium is not a like-for-like saving if the cover, excess or limits differ.
What should you check before choosing or renewing?
- Confirm who insures your policy. Check the policy start date and documents, especially if it was purchased before 16 June 2025, when Kogan identifies a previous QBE underwriting arrangement.
- Set sums insured carefully. Confirm the building and contents amounts shown in your quote and schedule are appropriate for the cover you want.
- Check events, exclusions and options. Read the applicable PDS for flood and run-off wording, and verify that any optional cover you need appears in your schedule.
- Review excesses and sublimits. Check what you would pay toward a claim and any limits for temporary accommodation, portable items or other benefits.
- Compare complete quotes. Match cover and excesses across insurers, then consider both the current premium and renewal terms.
Verdict
Kogan Home & Contents Insurance may be worth considering if its available cover, options, limits and price fit your needs. The evidence does not justify a blanket verdict that it is cheaper, better value or provides better claims service than alternatives. Treat the PDS and your schedule as decisive, and compare matched quotes before choosing.
