Spend idle materials against the present bottleneck
Before upgrading, identify the first requirement you cannot meet. It may be fighter levels, a star or rank requirement, a specific soul or prism material, or a team-gated stage condition. Directing every reward toward that obstacle is generally more efficient than making small upgrades to many fighters.
- If a stage is lost because your main damage dealer is under-leveled, prioritize the material that raises that fighter or the team’s shared progression.

Why focus beats a wide roster early
KOF AFK battles use five-versus-five teams. That structure rewards a functional group more than a collection of individually impressive but underdeveloped fighters. Early materials should therefore support the five fighters you actually deploy, with additional characters receiving resources only when they solve a specific formation or mode requirement.

“Focused” does not mean that you must use one fixed team forever. It means every new investment has a job: clearing the next stage, improving a challenge attempt, replacing a failed role, or meeting a promotion requirement. Avoid raising a large bench merely because those fighters are available.
Audit the team by role and failure point
When a battle fails, record what happened rather than replacing random fighters. Was the team defeated before it could act? Did damage fall short after the timer? Did a key fighter die while the rest survived? The answer tells you whether the next resource should improve durability, damage, control or a particular fighter’s progression.

- Damage check: if enemies remain when the attempt ends, improve the fighter or progression node that contributes the most relevant damage.
- Survival check: if your team collapses quickly, prioritize defensive or support improvements before adding a new damage dealer.
- Formation check: if one fighter’s ability is essential to the team, protect that fighter’s upgrade path instead of splitting materials among substitutes.
- Requirement check: if the stage demands a particular attribute, rank or fighter condition, meet that requirement first; raw power alone may not solve it.
Use attribute-linking resources deliberately
Official Premium Summon and Link System tips identify Solar, Lunar and Stellar DNA as resources used to link fighters of the corresponding attributes. The available guidance does not establish the current costs, best thresholds or a universally correct linking order. Treat linking as an account decision: read the in-game requirement, confirm which fighters benefit, and avoid spending a scarce DNA type simply because it is available.
Use challenge modes as extra progression, not as a fixed ranking
Netmarble’s challenge-content guidance identifies Infinity Challenge, Arcade Challenge and World Boss Challenge. Its search excerpt names Token of Growth, Soul, Aqua Prism and Ruby among possible rewards. Those names are useful examples of what to look for, but they are not a complete, permanent reward table and they do not establish that one mode is always best.

A simple challenge-mode decision
- Open each currently available challenge and read the reward preview, entry requirement and attempt limit.
- Write down the resource that is blocking your next useful team upgrade.
- Choose the available mode whose displayed reward supplies that resource or a prerequisite for it.
- Check whether attempts expire, reset or belong to a limited event before postponing them.
- After the attempt, spend the reward only if it removes the bottleneck you identified; otherwise keep it for the upgrade that does.
This approach avoids an unsupported “best mode” list. Challenge rewards, access conditions and schedules can change, and the official excerpts do not provide enough current detail to rank the three modes for every account.
Handle summon and selection tickets safely
Read eligibility before you commit an item
The Premium Summon and Link System tips refer to special summon currency and Legendary Fighter Summon Tickets. A January 2026 update notice also says that newly added fighters are not included in some items, including Fighter Summon Tickets or Selection Tickets. Consequently, a ticket that looks valuable may not be usable for the newest fighter.
Open the item’s description before pressing summon, select or use. Confirm the eligible pool, expiration date, attribute restrictions, duplicate rules and whether the item is a general ticket or a named selection. If the description is unclear, do not infer coverage from the item’s name. The client’s current wording is safer than an old community list.

When to hold a ticket
Holding an item is sensible when you have not identified an eligible fighter that improves your active team, or when the item’s pool may matter to an imminent promotion. Holding is not automatically correct: an unused ticket that expires or cannot solve your present bottleneck has no practical value. Balance the ticket’s stated validity period against your next upgrade requirement.

The official rates guide displayed a maintenance notice when checked, and the available Premium Summon excerpt does not establish current summon costs, rates or guarantee thresholds. There is therefore no verified number of rubies, tickets or pulls that a free player can safely reserve for a guaranteed result. Save items according to the rules shown in your current client, not according to an unverified target.
Read event notices instead of copying old offers
Time-limited rewards can be useful but are not permanent systems
A February 2026 update notice described an Ad Removal Trial Ticket reward connected with clearing Stage-5 during a collaboration period. That is evidence of a historical, time-limited benefit, not proof that the same ticket or requirement is currently available. If an event notice offers ad removal, currency, tickets or another convenience reward, check its start and end dates and its exact stage condition in the live game.
New mechanics may change the value of old advice
A March 2026 update notice described an Unlink system for fighters that had reached 10 stars and stated that Strike Tickets cost 1,000 Star Badges each. Those details are version-specific. Verify that the system, star requirement and cost still appear in your client before saving badges or changing a fighter’s build around them.
The same rule applies to collaboration shops, login campaigns, ad trials, free summons and event exchanges. A guide written for an earlier update can accurately describe what once existed while giving you the wrong action today. Open the current notice, inspect the item or mode, and note the stated deadline.

- Collect idle rewards. Claim what has accumulated and note the resource that blocks the next meaningful upgrade.
- Inspect the five-fighter team. Keep investment centered on the deployed formation and identify whether the failure is damage, survival, role coverage or a stage requirement.
- Check every active challenge. Read the live reward, entry rule and deadline for Infinity Challenge, Arcade Challenge and World Boss Challenge when available.

Assuming every ticket includes the newest fighter
Symptom: a ticket is saved for a recently released character, then the selection screen does not list that character. Fix: read the eligibility text first; January 2026 patch information confirms that some Fighter Summon Tickets and Selection Tickets exclude newly added fighters.
Following a permanent-looking event offer
Symptom: an old guide promises an ad-removal trial, shop exchange or stage reward that you cannot find. Fix: check the current notice and event dates. The February 2026 Ad Removal Trial Ticket example was tied to a collaboration period and should not be treated as an always-on reward.
Saving without a defined purpose
Symptom: currency and tickets accumulate, but the team remains blocked because no item is being used to solve the immediate requirement.
