The most reliable Kling AI prompt order is subject and appearance, visible subject movement, scene, camera language, lighting, and atmosphere. Keep the subject’s action separate from the camera’s move, describe one dominant camera move for a short clip, and state the final framing when you need a stable ending.
For sequences, use VIDEO 3.0 Multi-Shot or Custom Multi-Shot instead of hiding several unrelated shots in one paragraph. For identity continuity, bind an element or use reference images; for camera matching, use a camera-reference video or start/end frames where the selected model supports them.
The Kling prompt formula that gives the model usable direction
Kling AI’s official text-to-video guide, published in November 2025, presents this structure:

Kling’s 2026 guidance expresses the same idea as subject, action, setting, camera language, lighting, and mood. The order is not a rigid programming syntax, but it keeps the information the model needs in a logical sequence: what is visible, what it does, where it is, how it is filmed, and what the light and air look like.
1. Describe the subject as it should appear
Start with the person, animal, object, or group that must remain recognizable. Include only appearance details that matter to the shot: age range, clothing, color, distinctive markings, material, pose, or role. “A cyclist in a red rain jacket” is more useful than an abstract label such as “an inspiring athlete.” If identity matters across shots, use the same description and a reference control rather than rewriting the description with new synonyms each time.
2. State one visible action
Use an action that can be seen and completed during the chosen clip length: a runner moves along a path, a dancer turns toward a window, or a cup is lifted from a table. Avoid packing a short clip with a chain of unrelated events. Subject movement and camera movement are different instructions; say both when both matter.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →3. Establish the scene
Identify the location and the important depth layers. Mention the foreground, the subject’s position, and a background that gives the camera something to reveal. “A narrow market street, wet pavement in the foreground, stalls receding behind her” gives Kling compositional anchors that “in a city” does not.
4. Add camera language only after the action is clear
Camera language covers framing, viewpoint, lens impression, and visual focus. Useful terms include close-up, medium shot, wide shot, low angle, high angle, aerial view, telephoto, and shallow depth of field. Camera motion is a separate instruction and should be written as an observable move such as a pan, tilt, push-in, tracking move, or orbit.
5. Specify lighting and atmosphere
Describe what the light does rather than relying on a broad style word. Include direction, softness, shadow behavior, color temperature or time of day, and any visible atmospheric effect. Finish with mood or air: haze, mist, dust, rain, reflections, or a clean studio atmosphere.
Camera language versus camera movement
Kling’s official guide warns that lens and framing language should not be confused with motion control. A “wide shot” tells the model how much of the environment is visible; it does not tell the camera to move. “Tracking beside the runner” describes movement; it does not specify whether the result should be a close, medium, or wide view.
| Instruction type | Examples | What it controls |
|---|---|---|
| Framing | Close-up, medium shot, wide shot | How much of the subject and environment appear |
| Viewpoint | Low angle, high angle, aerial view, first-person POV | The camera’s height and visual perspective |
| Lens or focus impression | Telephoto compression, shallow depth of field | Perspective, background separation, and focus emphasis |
| Camera motion | Pan, tilt, slow push-in, tracking, orbit | How the viewpoint changes through time |
| End state | Settles on a frontal medium shot | Where the camera finishes when a stable final frame matters |
Use one dominant move in a short clip
A practical way to make a five- or ten-second shot legible is to choose one primary move. A slow push-in, a lateral tracking shot, or an orbit can each be the central event. Combining a pan, tilt, zoom, crane, and orbit in the same short instruction makes it harder to tell which movement should dominate. If a second move is essential, give it a clear order and a time cue rather than listing movements as a pile of effects.

Separate subject and camera verbs
Compare “the runner moves forward while the camera tracks beside him” with “the camera moves forward.” The first assigns forward movement to the runner and lateral tracking to the camera. This separation is especially important when the camera must preserve a character’s screen position while the environment flows past.
Say where the camera settles
When the last frame will be used as a transition, reference, or edit point, add an end state: “the camera settles into a centered medium shot.” Without an end state, Kling may continue the move or choose a different final composition.
Lighting prompts that produce visible results
Kling’s 2025 guide lists ambient lighting, morning light, sunset, interplay of light and shadow, the Tyndall effect, and artificial lighting. Its 2026 article adds practical details such as haze, rim light, long shadows, soft golden sunlight, cold blue night tones, and reflections on wet pavement.
A four-part lighting pattern
- Key direction and quality: for example, “soft warm key light from camera left” or “hard overhead noon light.”
- Fill and shadow behavior: specify gentle fill, deep unfilled shadows, or a narrow rim around the subject.
- Color and time: name late-afternoon warmth, cold blue night tones, or neutral artificial light.
- Atmospheric interaction: add faint haze, visible light rays, mist, dust, or reflections when they should appear on screen.
A complete example is: “Soft warm key light from camera left, gentle fill on the face, long late-afternoon shadows, faint haze.” This is a prompt pattern, not a guarantee of a particular output.
Make lighting agree with the scene
Lighting should have a source that belongs in the location. A sunset key light can illuminate a street from the horizon; a cool overhead source can fit a night interior; wet pavement can carry reflected signs. If you ask for warm sunlight, cold moonlight, and neutral fluorescent fill without assigning their roles, the result may lose a coherent direction.
Reusable single-shot prompt templates
General template
Medium close-up of [subject and appearance] in [specific scene]. [Subject] [one visible action]. Camera [one movement] from [starting framing] to [ending framing]. [Key-light direction and quality], [fill and shadow behavior], [color or time of day]. [Atmosphere and mood].
Tracking example
Medium-wide shot of a cyclist in a red rain jacket riding through a narrow market street at dusk. The cyclist moves steadily forward, water spraying from the tires. Camera tracks alongside at matching speed, maintaining a three-quarter profile and settling into a frontal medium shot. Soft warm shop light from camera right, cool blue ambient sky fill, reflections on wet pavement, light rain and restrained cinematic tension.

Soft overhead artificial lighting, controlled specular highlights, gentle floor reflections, clean still air.
Choosing a Kling workflow for the shot
The right workflow depends on whether you need a single generated clip, several planned shots, a matched camera path, or strict identity continuity.
| Need | Recommended workflow | Important control |
|---|---|---|
| One self-contained clip | Text-to-video | Subject, action, scene, camera language, lighting, atmosphere |
| Several shots from one concept | VIDEO 3.0 Multi-Shot | Kling plans transitions, framing, and camera-angle changes from the prompt |
| Exact shot-by-shot planning | VIDEO 3.0 Custom Multi-Shot | Specify count, duration, content, shot size, perspective, and movement |
| Match a camera path from existing footage | VIDEO O1 camera-reference workflow | Use an image as the start frame and a reference video for camera movement |
| Preserve a character or object through camera changes | VIDEO 3.0 element binding or reference images | Bind an element created from a character video or 2–4 reference images |
| Transform between defined images | VIDEO O1 start and end frames | Describe the change between both frames; an end frame alone is not supported |
VIDEO 3.0 Multi-Shot and Custom Multi-Shot
VIDEO 3.0 supports text-to-video, image-to-video, start and end frames, native audio, multi-shot generation, flexible duration, and output listed by Kling as up to 15 seconds. With Multi-Shot enabled in the VIDEO 3.0 input area, Kling automatically plans shot transitions, shot framing, and camera-angle changes from the prompt.
Recommended Free Tools
Automatic Multi-Shot
Use automatic Multi-Shot when you want Kling to interpret a sequence but do not need to set every shot length. Describe the narrative progression in order and make each change visually distinct. State the subject’s continuity requirements, then identify the major shot transitions and camera changes.
Custom Multi-Shot
Custom Multi-Shot exposes shot-level control over duration, shot size, perspective, narrative content, and camera movement. Label each shot explicitly so the model can associate the movement with the correct section.
Shot 1, low-angle rear wide shot, tracking behind the rider as he enters the forest.
Shot 2, side close-up of the front wheel crossing a puddle.
Shot 3, first-person POV down the trail, branches moving past the frame.
Shot 4, frontal medium shot, camera tracking backward as the rider approaches and stops.
Add lighting and continuity instructions after the shot plan: “Keep the same red jacket, black helmet, forest weather, and late-afternoon direction of light in every shot.” Kling’s official example uses shot-by-shot framing and then adds a camera rise as the subject moves through the environment. A rise should be assigned to the shot in which it occurs, not left as an unexplained extra movement.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsHow to plan durations
Give a shot a longer interval when it needs to establish a location or complete a physical action. Give a brief interval to an insert such as a wheel close-up. If the sequence has a required rhythm, write time ranges or durations directly beside each shot. The available duration controls depend on the selected VIDEO 3.0 interface and mode, so check the current model settings rather than assuming every model exposes the same values.

Storyboard-style prompts in Kling 4.0
Kling’s official Kling 4.0 guide demonstrates storyboard prompts that preserve director-approved shot order, composition, camera paths, screen movement directions, lighting, and emotional progression. Use timed action blocks when an event or camera beat must happen at a specific moment.
0–2 seconds: Wide establishing shot of the harbor at dawn; camera cranes slowly upward.
2–5 seconds: Medium tracking shot beside the sailor walking toward the pier; keep the subject moving left to right on screen.
5–8 seconds: Close-up as the sailor turns toward the light; camera makes a restrained push-in and settles on the eyes.
8–10 seconds: Hold the close-up while the fog brightens and the expression changes from concern to relief.
This format makes order, screen direction, and emotional change explicit. Keep the same subject description, wardrobe, and lighting direction in every block unless the story intentionally changes them.
Keeping a character consistent during camera movement
Element binding in VIDEO 3.0
VIDEO 3.0 element binding is designed to keep a subject visually stable during zooming, panning, and tilting. Kling says an element can be created from a character video or from two to four reference images. The bound element carries visual consistency and, where configured, voice-tone consistency.
Use the same bound element for every shot in which identity matters. Then describe the camera move separately. Binding helps with visual continuity, but it does not replace a clear action, scene, or lighting description.
Reference-image discipline
When creating an element from reference images, choose images that agree on the features you need to preserve: hairstyle, clothing, face, markings, or object shape. The documented range is two to four images. Do not introduce a new wardrobe or radically different viewpoint in the prompt unless the change is intentional.
Start and end frames in VIDEO O1
VIDEO O1 can take an image as the start frame and generate a video that follows the camera movement of a reference video. O1 also supports start and end frames with a prompt describing the transformation between them. Kling’s official O1 guide states that generation with only an end frame is not supported, so provide a start frame when using that workflow.

Text-to-video settings and model-specific limits
Do not carry a duration or aspect-ratio assumption from one Kling model into another. The official 2025 text-to-video guide documents five- or ten-second videos, Standard and Professional modes, and 16:9, 9:16, and 1:1 aspect ratios. Kling’s 2026 VIDEO 3.0 guide documents flexible duration and 15-second output, along with native audio and multi-shot features.

| Capability | Documented detail | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Text-to-video duration | 5 or 10 seconds | Documented in Kling’s 2025 text-to-video guide |
| Text-to-video modes | Standard and Professional | Documented in the same 2025 guide |
| Text-to-video aspect ratios | 16:9, 9:16, and 1:1 | Documented in the 2025 guide |
| VIDEO 3.0 output | 15 seconds listed | Documented in Kling’s 2026 VIDEO 3.0 guide; available controls can vary by interface |
| VIDEO 3.0 audio | Native audio | Listed as a VIDEO 3.0 capability |
| Element references | 2–4 reference images | Documented range for creating an element from images in the 2026 guidance |
Set the aspect ratio for the destination before writing the composition. A vertical 9:16 clip needs room above and below the subject; a 16:9 landscape shot can use wider environmental layers; a 1:1 square frame needs a more compact arrangement. These are composition consequences of the frame shape, not separate camera controls.
A step-by-step Kling prompting workflow
- Choose the model and output shape. Confirm whether you are using the documented text-to-video workflow or VIDEO 3.0/O1 features, then select the available duration and aspect ratio.
- Write the subject line. Name the subject and only the appearance details that must be visible.
- Add one physical action. Use a verb that can be seen and completed during the clip.
- Place the subject in a layered scene. Identify location, foreground, background, and any surface that should catch light or motion.
- Choose framing and viewpoint. Select close-up, medium, wide, low angle, high angle, aerial, telephoto, or another term that serves the shot.
- Add one primary camera move. State the start framing, direction, speed impression, and final framing.
- Describe lighting behavior. Name key direction, softness, shadow or fill, color temperature, and atmospheric interaction.
- Add mood only after physical details. Use atmosphere or emotional tone to refine the shot, not to replace visible direction.
- Add continuity controls. Bind an element, provide reference images, or use start/end frames when identity or transformation is central.
- Review the prompt for conflicting verbs. Make sure the subject and camera have separate actions and that the lighting direction is physically coherent.
Troubleshooting common Kling prompt failures
The camera ignores the requested move
- Rewrite the move as an observable action: “camera tracks beside the runner,” “camera pans left,” or “camera makes a slow push-in.”
- Remove competing movements and leave one dominant move for the clip.
- Separate the camera sentence from the subject-action sentence.
- State the starting and ending framing, especially when the clip must finish on a usable composition.
The subject changes during a pan or zoom
- Use VIDEO 3.0 element binding for the subject.
- Create the element from a character video or two to four compatible reference images.
- Repeat the essential wardrobe or identifying feature in each shot description.
- Reduce unnecessary transformations while the camera is moving.
The result has muddy or contradictory lighting
- Replace style-only language with a key-light direction and quality.
- Specify whether shadows are soft, deep, long, or filled.
- Assign different colors to different sources instead of listing several unassigned temperatures.
- Add haze, rim light, or reflections only when they belong to the scene.
A multi-shot prompt becomes one undifferentiated scene
- Enable Multi-Shot in VIDEO 3.0 when you want automatic shot planning.
- Use Custom Multi-Shot and label “Shot 1,” “Shot 2,” and so on when duration, perspective, and movement must be explicit.
- Put the camera move in the shot where it occurs.
- Use time ranges in a storyboard-style Kling 4.0 prompt for actions that must happen at a particular moment.
The start/end-frame workflow fails
- For VIDEO O1, provide both a start frame and an end frame when using a transformation workflow.
- Do not submit only an end frame; Kling’s official O1 guide says that configuration is not supported.
- Describe the visual change between the frames instead of asking the model to infer an unspecified transition.
Practical composition decisions
When to choose a close-up
Use a close-up when facial expression, texture, or a small object is the event. Pair it with a restrained push-in, a slight pan, or a stable hold so the subject remains legible.
When to choose a medium shot
A medium shot balances body language and environment. It is a useful default for a person performing one action while the camera tracks, tilts, or settles into a final pose.
When to choose a wide or aerial view
Use a wide or aerial view when geography, scale, or movement through a location matters. Give the scene distinct foreground and background layers so the camera has spatial information to reveal.
When a telephoto look helps
Telephoto language can suggest compressed distance and a separated subject. Use it when the background relationship is part of the shot; do not combine it with a request for exaggerated nearby perspective unless that contradiction is intentional.
Final prompt checklist
- Is the subject’s appearance concrete and consistent?
- Is there one visible subject action suitable for the selected duration?
- Are subject movement and camera movement written as separate instructions?
- Does the scene identify location and useful depth layers?
- Does the framing or lens language match the intended composition?
- Is the dominant camera move explicit, with a starting and ending state?
- Does the lighting name direction, quality, shadows, color, and atmosphere?
- Are multiple shots labeled with shot size, perspective, duration, and movement?
- Is an element, reference image, camera-reference video, or start/end frame needed for continuity?
- Are duration, audio, mode, and aspect-ratio assumptions appropriate to the selected Kling model?
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I control camera movement in a normal Kling text-to-video prompt?
Yes. Describe an observable move such as a pan, tilt, push-in, tracking shot, or orbit, and keep it separate from the subject’s action. The documented text-to-video workflow supports camera-language instructions, while exact controls vary by model.
What is the difference between Multi-Shot and Custom Multi-Shot in VIDEO 3.0?
Multi-Shot lets VIDEO 3.0 automatically plan transitions, framing, and camera-angle changes from your prompt. Custom Multi-Shot lets you specify shot count, duration, content, shot size, perspective, and camera movement for each shot.
How many reference images can create a VIDEO 3.0 element?
Kling’s 2026 guidance documents two to four reference images for creating an element. A character video can also be used as the source.
Does VIDEO O1 support a camera-reference video?
Yes. O1 can use an image as the start frame and generate a video that follows the camera movement of a reference video. For a start/end-frame transformation, provide both frames; an end frame alone is not supported.
Why should I check the model before choosing a duration?
Kling’s 2025 text-to-video guide documents five- or ten-second output, while the 2026 VIDEO 3.0 guide lists flexible duration and 15-second output. Duration, audio, aspect-ratio, and shot controls are model-specific rather than universal.
