The KitchenAid KSB4027 K400 is a full-size blender best suited to everyday jobs such as smoothies, icy drinks, crushed ice, and soup. Independent testing by RTINGS found smooth results with fibrous ingredients and strong ice-crushing and soup performance, but also found nut-butter preparation difficult and the blades tricky to clean by hand. Those trade-offs matter more than the preset count if you regularly make very thick mixtures.
What is the KitchenAid KSB4027?
KitchenAid identifies model KSB4027 as the K400 Variable Speed Blender. Its controls combine a five-speed dial with three presets: Ice Crush, Icy Drinks, and Smoothie. The guide also lists pulse and describes the main jar as suitable for smoothies, icy drinks, shakes, dips, and spreads. KitchenAid’s product page describes a ribbed jar, an asymmetric blade, Intelli-Speed motor control, and Soft Start, which begins at a slower speed before increasing to the selected setting. These are manufacturer descriptions, not independent performance measurements.
KitchenAid describes Intelli-Speed as sensing the contents and maintaining a speed intended to power through ingredients. RTINGS’ independent review provides a more practical view of results, discussed below.

How well does it blend?
RTINGS’ K400 review, updated December 5, 2022, reports very smooth results with fibrous ingredients, strong ice crushing that produces snow-like ice, and strong performance making soup. That evidence makes the KSB4027 a plausible fit for households whose regular jobs are smoothies, icy drinks, ice, and blended soups. It does not establish that every recipe or batch size will turn out equally well, and the available evidence does not provide a comparable independent score for every competing blender.
Can the KSB4027 make nut butter?
It may be possible, but it is not the model’s clearest strength: RTINGS reports that nut-butter preparation is difficult. Thick mixtures can be demanding for a blender because ingredients may stop circulating freely; expect more intervention than with pourable smoothies or drinks. If nut butter is a frequent, must-have use, weigh that drawback heavily rather than assuming a preset or motor-control description guarantees easy results.

Capacity, power, and noise: what the specifications say
Published capacity differs by source. KitchenAid’s product guide lists a 56-ounce (1.6-liter) main jar, while CHOICE lists a 1.7-liter jug for the KSB4027 on its product page. The sources do not explain the discrepancy, so treat each figure as source-specific rather than silently choosing one. KitchenAid’s guide separately gives a 48-ounce (1.4-liter) maximum for a glass jar; check the exact variant and included jar before purchase. CHOICE’s page lists AUD $549 and labels the model discontinued in its market. Those are page details for CHOICE’s market, not a global availability statement or a reliable current price elsewhere; its detailed test results are members-only. Check local retailers for current availability and pricing. Do not compare the 79 dB figure with another blender’s noise figure unless the measurement methods are known to align.

What should you know about operation and cleaning?
- Automatic stop: KitchenAid’s guide says variable-speed runs stop automatically after three minutes.
- Hot ingredients: Start at low speed and ramp up. Do not blend hot liquids in the personal or small-batch jars.
- Cleaning program: The guide recommends filling half the jar with warm water, adding one or two drops of dish soap, and using the clean program.
- Dishwasher guidance: The guide lists the main blender jar and glass jar as dishwasher-safe on the bottom rack. Check the care instructions for the exact jar and accessories you own.
For hand-washing the blade area, account for RTINGS’ finding that the blades can be tricky to clean by hand; use care around the sharp blades.
Which optional jars are available?
KitchenAid names two optional packs: the 16-ounce Personal Blender Jar Expansion Pack (KSB2030PJB) and the 6-ounce Small Batch Jar Expansion Pack (KSB2040BBB). The guide describes the personal jar for individual smoothies and lower-volume recipes, and the small-batch jar for items such as purees, sauces, baby food, dressings, marinades, and pesto. They are optional rather than essential for every buyer. Confirm compatibility with the exact blender variant and current listing before buying; availability and stock can change.

What warranty does the KSB4027 have?
The available KSB4027CU manual, marked ©2019, states a five-year full warranty from the date of purchase for blenders operated in the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Canada, subject to its terms and exclusions. It excludes, among other things, certain non-household use, accident or misuse damage, and some shipping costs; it also contains separate first-year replacement language. Who should consider the KSB4027?
- A good match: You want one full-size blender for smoothies, fibrous ingredients, ice crushing, icy drinks, and soup, and find the five-speed dial and three presets useful.
- Think carefully: You often make nut butter or other thick mixtures and want a blender that handles them with little intervention.
- Check before ordering: You need a particular jar capacity, a specific accessory, local availability, or warranty coverage outside the regions named in the available manual.
- Don’t overread the noise figure: CHOICE lists 79 dB, but that number is most useful only when compared with measurements taken using a compatible method.
