The HiSilicon Kirin 990 5G is a late-2019 flagship smartphone processor with an integrated 5G modem and an eight-core, three-tier CPU. HiSilicon lists a 7 nm+ EUV process, a 16-core Mali-G76 GPU, LPDDR4X memory, and its Da Vinci-based NPU. Benchmark results vary by phone, software, test version, and conditions, so scores from Mate 30 Pro handsets are useful examples—not a universal score for every Kirin 990 5G device.
Kirin 990 5G specifications
The following specifications are listed by HiSilicon. Its “7 nm+ EUV” wording is the manufacturer’s process description; it does not, by itself, establish a particular die size or measured efficiency.
| Component | Specification |
|---|---|
| Process | 7 nm+ EUV |
| CPU | 2 × Cortex-A76 at 2.86 GHz; 2 × Cortex-A76 at 2.36 GHz; 4 × Cortex-A55 at 1.95 GHz |
| GPU | 16-core Mali-G76 |
| AI processor | Da Vinci architecture; 2 × Ascend Lite and 1 × Ascend Tiny; HiAI 2.0 |
| Modem | Integrated 2G/3G/4G/5G modem; SA and NSA; FDD and TDD |
| Memory | LPDDR4X |
| Imaging | Kirin ISP 5.0 |
Three CPU tiers
The eight CPU cores are arranged in three frequency groups: two high-frequency Cortex-A76 cores, two lower-frequency Cortex-A76 cores, and four Cortex-A55 cores. This mix gives the processor distinct core types and clock speeds rather than eight identical cores. The specifications alone do not quantify how a particular phone distributes workloads among them or how long it sustains peak performance.

The chip’s listed modem supports 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G, including standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) 5G and both FDD and TDD access. HiSilicon describes it as a full-frequency 5G SoC, but that description is not a guarantee that every phone variant supports every band. Check the exact handset model and regional version against the networks you intend to use.

AI and imaging features
HiSilicon lists a Da Vinci architecture NPU with two Ascend Lite units and one Ascend Tiny unit. For imaging, the company identifies Kirin ISP 5.0, BM3D image noise reduction, and dual-domain video noise reduction. These are manufacturer-described capabilities, not independent findings about the resulting photo or video quality.
How fast is the Kirin 990 5G?
Available scores are measurements associated with specific Mate 30 Pro phones, not fixed results intrinsic to the processor. The benchmark version and handset configuration matter, as do performance mode, software state, and thermal conditions.

Geekbench 5: historical Mate 30 Pro result
ComputerBase’s Mate 30 Pro comparison reports a Geekbench 5 single-core total of 757 for the Kirin 990. In that particular comparison, the result is below the listed A13 Bionic and Snapdragon 865 entries and above the Kirin 980 entry. It is a historical phone-based comparison, not a present-day ranking of every device using this chip.
Geekbench 6: submitted Mate 30 Pro 5G results
The Geekbench Browser Mate 30 Pro 5G page currently displays user-submitted Geekbench 6 results of 925 single-core and 3476 multi-core. These figures belong to submissions for that handset model; the database can change over time, and its results are not a lab-controlled score for the SoC.

Geekbench 5 and Geekbench 6 use different versions and datasets. Their scores should not be treated as directly interchangeable. For a meaningful comparison with another processor, use the same benchmark version and broadly comparable phones and conditions; GPU comparisons likewise require the same graphics test.
Which phones use the Kirin 990 5G?
The Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G is a documented example. Notebookcheck’s Kirin 990 5G listing identifies the phone as using this processor and indexes handset benchmark observations. Those records reinforce that performance evidence is tied to a phone implementation, not an isolated chip measured under one universal setup.

The Kirin 990 5G is distinct from the Kirin 990 4G version. Do not assume the 5G model’s clock configuration or modem capabilities apply to the 4G variant. Nor does the chip’s modem feature list establish present-day network compatibility for a particular Mate 30 Pro: verify the exact regional handset variant and supported bands.

- Compare single-core and multi-core results from the same benchmark version.
- Use phones with similar configurations and account for performance mode, software state, and thermal conditions.
- Compare GPU performance using the same graphics benchmark rather than inferring it from CPU scores.
- Check modem bands on the specific handset, not only the SoC’s broad modem feature list.
- Treat AI and imaging comparisons as meaningful only when comparable tests support them; listed capabilities alone do not establish relative quality.
The available records and specifications support an overview of the chip and examples of handset performance, but they do not provide one controlled cross-chip test across CPU, GPU, modem, AI, and sustained thermal behavior. Since the Kirin 990 5G is a 2019-era platform, benchmark results alone also cannot establish current app support, network compatibility, or whether a phone is a good value today.
