Short answer: the current Kingdom Hearts collection brings together the three major packages—HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind. It covers the main playable adventures from the first game through Kingdom Hearts III, but some entries are movies or cutscene compilations rather than playable releases, and several mobile or minor spin-offs remain outside the bundle. For a first playthrough, use release order rather than the menu order. The full package can take 200 hours or more, depending on optional content and how you approach the cinematic episodes.
What is in the Kingdom Hearts collection?
Square Enix describes the collection as six Kingdom Hearts titles beginning with the first adventure, but the complete modern package is spread across three releases. Together, they provide the core story leading into and through Kingdom Hearts III.

That distinction matters. Buying the collection does not mean every historical release is included as a full game. The package is best understood as the central console storyline, supplemented by films and edited story presentations for entries that originally appeared in other formats.

HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX
Kingdom Hearts Final Mix is the expanded version of the first numbered adventure. It establishes Sora, Donald and Goofy’s journey through Disney and original worlds. Re:Chain of Memories follows directly from that story and uses a card-based combat system rather than the first game’s standard action combat. Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix continues the main arc with a longer campaign and additional Final Mix content.

The other three entries are presented differently. Birth by Sleep Final Mix is a complete playable prequel told through three connected character campaigns. 358/2 Days and Re:coded are HD cutscene compilations, so you watch their stories instead of controlling characters through their original gameplay campaigns.
HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue
Dream Drop Distance HD is a playable adventure that sets up important concepts and characters for the later games. 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A fragmentary passage – is a short playable episode. Square Enix describes it as “A short episode that links to KINGDOM HEARTS III,” which accurately reflects its role: it is a bridge into the third numbered game rather than a full-length sequel.
χ Back Cover is a movie. It explains part of the ancient history behind the series and gives context for events that otherwise originate in a mobile storyline. It is not a playable adaptation of that game.
Kingdom Hearts III and Re Mind
Kingdom Hearts III is the full third numbered game. The package also includes Re Mind, a substantial DLC chapter that revisits part of the ending from another perspective and adds post-game story and battles. If you are comparing editions, check that the listing specifically says “+ Re Mind”; the base game and the DLC have not always been sold as the same product.

Which Kingdom Hearts episodes are missing?
The collection is close to a complete route through the main saga, but “complete collection” is not a literal list of every Kingdom Hearts release. Some mobile and smaller spin-off releases are outside the package. The official collection description does not publish an exhaustive list of every omitted episode, so it is safer to describe the gap broadly than to claim that a particular mobile chapter is or is not included without checking the current edition.
Several stories are represented indirectly:
- 358/2 Days is an HD movie-style compilation, not its original playable Nintendo DS campaign.
- Re:coded is also presented as HD cinematics rather than as the original playable release.
- χ Back Cover is a film that supplies selected historical context, not the complete mobile experience from which that history developed.
As a result, you receive the narrative material needed to follow the principal console arc, but not every control system, side mission, event episode or original presentation from the series’ broader history. Readers interested in completion beyond the central saga should treat the collection as the foundation and verify individual missing releases separately.
What order should you play the collection in?
For a first playthrough, use release order. MeriStation recommends this approach because rearranging the games can reveal character identities, motivations and plot information earlier than intended. The in-game menu does not always present the ideal narrative sequence, particularly around Kingdom Hearts II and 358/2 Days.
- Kingdom Hearts Final Mix: begin with the first numbered adventure and learn the setting, combat and central relationships.
- Re:Chain of Memories: continue immediately after the first game. Its story explains the transition into the next major chapter.
- Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix: play the second numbered game after Re:Chain of Memories.
- Re:coded cinematics: watch the HD story compilation at this point in the release-oriented sequence.
- 358/2 Days cinematics: watch this compilation next. Although its events occur earlier in the fictional chronology, placing it here protects the reveals designed for players who experienced the releases in their original order.
- Birth by Sleep Final Mix: play the three-character prequel after the preceding entries.
- Dream Drop Distance HD: continue with this playable chapter, which advances the larger conflict.
- 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A fragmentary passage –: play the short linking episode immediately before the third numbered game.
- χ Back Cover: watch the movie for its ancient-history context.
- Kingdom Hearts III: play the full third numbered adventure.
- Re Mind: finish with the DLC chapter after completing the main Kingdom Hearts III campaign.
This sequence is a first-run recommendation, not a chronology of when every event occurs. On a replay, chronological order can be an interesting alternative, but it changes the timing of major revelations and is therefore less suitable for someone discovering the series.

How long does the Kingdom Hearts collection take?
TechRadar published an estimate of 200 hours or more for the full Integrum Masterpiece package in 2026. That figure is an editorial estimate, not a completion guarantee from Square Enix. Your total can be substantially shorter or longer.

There is no publisher-provided total playtime figure in the official collection information. Treat “200 hours or more” as a planning benchmark for experiencing the package broadly, including optional content, rather than as a fixed number of hours required to see the ending.
Which collection should you buy?
If you want the complete modern console route, look for a package or bundle that includes all three components: HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind. Buying only HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX gives you the first large group of games but stops before the later setup and conclusion. Buying only HD 2.8 gives you the bridge material without the earlier foundations.

- Playable content versus video: confirm which entries are games and which are movies or cutscene compilations.
- Re Mind inclusion: verify that the third-game edition contains the DLC rather than only the base Kingdom Hearts III.
- Platform and format: distinguish Steam, Epic, Nintendo, PlayStation and Xbox editions, and check whether you are buying digital access or a physical release.
- Regional availability: edition names, stock, required downloads and storefront contents can vary by country and can change over time.
Square Enix’s current collection page lists digital storefront options for Steam, Epic, Nintendo, PlayStation and Xbox. It also lists physical purchase paths for Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation. Check the live store page for your region before paying, because platform availability and inventory are time-sensitive.

What should you expect from the cinematic entries?
The movie and cutscene compilations are important to the plot, but they do not replicate the original gameplay. You will not be leveling a party, opening chests or fighting through a full campaign in 358/2 Days, Re:coded or χ Back Cover within this collection. Their purpose is to preserve story information in a format that fits the modern compilation.
Plan your sessions accordingly. A playable game asks you to manage controls, equipment and progression; a cinematic entry asks you to set aside uninterrupted viewing time and pay attention to names, organizations and timeline clues. If you prefer to experience every original mechanic, the collection alone cannot provide that for the compilation-only releases.
Common mistakes when starting the series
Following the menu order without checking the story sequence
The collection’s navigation order is convenient for launching games, but it is not identical to the recommended first-playthrough order. Use the numbered sequence above, especially for the position of 358/2 Days.
Assuming every listed title is a full game
Read the format column in the package table before you start. Three entries are explicitly cinematic or movie presentations, and 0.2 is intentionally short.

Expecting every mobile story to be present
The bundle leaves some mobile and spin-off material outside the package. It supplies selected context through χ Back Cover and other edited presentations, but that is not the same as including every historical release.
Buying a third-game edition without checking the DLC
If you want the complete ending experience represented by the current package, confirm that Re Mind is included. Store listings can separate the base game and expansion.
Planning around an exact hour count
The 200-hour figure is an estimate. Difficulty, optional challenges, exploration and viewing habits make a fixed schedule unrealistic. Use it as a broad commitment indicator instead of a deadline.

The Kingdom Hearts collection is the most practical route through the central saga: it takes you from Kingdom Hearts Final Mix to Kingdom Hearts III and includes the Re Mind expansion when you choose the complete package. It is not an archive of every release, and several stories are delivered as films or cutscene compilations. Start in release order, allow 200 hours or more if you plan to explore widely, and verify the exact platform edition and DLC contents before purchasing.
