Play Kingdom Hearts first, then Kingdom Hearts II, and then Kingdom Hearts III. Nintendo describes the premise this way: “The main story follows Sora, a Keyblade wielder, as he and his friends travel to iconic Disney and Pixar worlds and take on the Heartless and defeat darkness in each world.” That description explains the through-line, but the surrounding entries supply much of the history behind Sora’s friends, rivals, and the wider conflict.

Why II comes before III
Kingdom Hearts II is not a disposable bridge between the other two numbers. It is the second numbered continuation, so playing it supplies the immediate story context that III expects. If you skip directly from I to III, you can follow the broad objective but will have to infer why many characters, factions, and conflicts matter.

A practical expanded order is to begin with Kingdom Hearts FINAL MIX, continue through Re:Chain of Memories, view 358/2 Days, play Kingdom Hearts II FINAL MIX, then play Birth by Sleep FINAL MIX, review Re:coded, continue to Dream Drop Distance HD, watch χ Back Cover, play 0.2 Birth by Sleep, and finish with Kingdom Hearts III and Re Mind. What “included” means on Switch 2
Nintendo’s Switch 2 contents list identifies 358/2 Days and Re:coded as HD cutscene compilations. In that format, those entries are presented as edited story scenes rather than complete playable versions of the original games. The distinction matters if you are buying the collection expecting every listed title to offer the same kind of hands-on play.
The other names in the inventory should also be read according to their format. A collection can contain a playable game, a separately presented episode, downloadable expansion content, or a cutscene-based recap. Buying the all-in-one edition: platform and download details
Square Enix’s North American store lists a physical KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I–III] for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 with an October 8, 2026 release date. The package combines HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind.
The physical edition requires an internet connection and an additional data download. Do not assume that the disc or cartridge contains every playable component for offline use. Before opening the package, confirm that your console has enough storage, that your internet connection can complete the download, and that the regional listing matches your system.
- PS5 or Switch 2: check the local store page for the physical all-in-one edition and its download requirement.
