It does mean that you should not assume a new unit, replacement cover, warranty service or matching variant is readily available. Ask for written, model-specific information before paying.

How the mattress is built
Harvey Norman’s historical description says the Conforma Essence uses a pocket-coil spring system, AeroComfort and quilting comfort foam. Those statements describe the intended product build as presented by the retailer. They do not establish foam density, coil gauge, edge reinforcement, ventilation results, pressure mapping or service life.
Individually encased or pocketed coils are designed so that coils can move more independently than a connected open-coil unit. In general mattress design, that can help limit movement transfer and allow more localised compression. It does not tell you whether this particular model suits your body, how quickly its comfort layers age or how well its edges hold up. CHOICE’s public page does not expose the measurements needed to answer those questions for the Essence.
AeroComfort is a product feature name, not a publicly reported performance standard. Likewise, quilting comfort foam indicates padding in the quilted upper section but does not disclose the material recipe or firmness. If a seller describes the mattress as having a particular foam density, coil count or treatment, request that information in writing and keep it with the receipt.

Historical retailer material describes four feels: plush, medium, firm and super firm. It also lists single, king single, double, queen and king sizes. These are historical range descriptions, not confirmation that every combination was made or that any combination is currently obtainable.

Firmness labels are not a universal scale. A firm mattress from one manufacturer can feel different from a firm mattress from another, and the result changes with sleeper weight, body shape, foundation and age of the comfort layers. If you are considering a Conforma Essence Firm or Medium mattress, test the exact unit for several minutes in your normal sleeping positions rather than relying on the word on the label.

How to identify the variant
- Read the law label or sewn-in product label for the model and feel designation.
- Match the label to the seller’s invoice or original order confirmation.
- Measure the width and length; a queen listing does not prove that a unit is queen-sized.
- Ask whether the mattress has ever been rotated, stored compressed or exposed to moisture.
- Do not infer the feel from a coloured fabric, a showroom tag or a seller’s memory.
What CHOICE testing can and cannot tell you
CHOICE’s public product page withholds the Expert Rating and individual results for measures such as support, stability, sagging resistance, breathability and wear behind member access. Because those scores are not visible in the public record, it is not accurate to say that the Conforma Essence passed or failed a particular CHOICE test.
The absence of a public score is not a positive or negative result. It simply limits what can be verified without access to the member information. - Personal impression: a reviewer’s or shopper’s description of how a particular Firm unit felt.

Dimensions, weight and foundation planning
The public CHOICE specifications describe the queen listing as 28 cm thick and 37 kg. Those figures are useful for checking whether a bed frame, headboard clearance, fitted sheets and delivery route can accommodate the mattress. They are not a substitute for measuring a specific unit, especially after years of use or storage.

Before collection or delivery, measure the available base and all doorways, stairwells and turns. Confirm whether the base is compatible with a pocket-spring mattress and whether the seller includes a foundation. A mattress protector should be the exact size and depth required by the actual mattress; an accessory cannot correct an incompatible base or replace a worn mattress.

A 37 kg queen mattress can be awkward even when its weight is within one person’s lifting limit, and bending or folding it may damage the spring assembly or void a seller’s return arrangement. Ask how it was stored and whether it has been transported flat, on its side or compressed.
Historical prices and what they mean in 2026
There are two useful historical price references, but neither is a current quote or a fair-price recommendation.

Inflation, clearance practices, stock age, delivery fees and warranty risk can make an old mattress’s asking price difficult to judge. A seller who quotes one of these historical figures is not demonstrating that the mattress is worth that amount today. Compare the unit’s age and condition with the cost of a currently supported mattress, and budget for delivery, inspection and disposal if the purchase fails.
Warranty and guarantee questions
Harvey Norman’s historical description states a 10-year guarantee, and Bedbuyer’s archived Firm review states a 10-year warranty. These references document what was advertised at the time; they do not prove that a remaining-stock or secondhand buyer receives the same coverage.

Warranty terms often depend on the original purchaser, authorised channel, proof of purchase, correct foundation, manufacturing date and whether the mattress has been resold. None of those conditions should be assumed for this discontinued model. Before paying, obtain the current written warranty from the seller or manufacturer and check:
- Whether coverage transfers to a second owner.
- Whether the warranty clock starts at manufacture, original sale or your purchase.
- Which sagging depth, structural fault or component failure qualifies for a remedy.

Buying a remaining-stock or secondhand unit: a practical process
- Identify the exact mattress. Request clear photos of the model label, feel designation, size label and manufacturing or production information.
- Confirm the seller’s status. Ask whether the unit is new, showroom stock, returned stock or used, and why it is being sold.
- Verify condition. Inspect seams, handles, quilting, edges, stains, odours, moisture damage and visible body impressions. A clean cover does not prove that the interior is sound.
- Check dimensions. Measure width, length and height instead of relying on a generic queen, king or double description.
- Test the exact feel. Lie in your normal sleep positions and sit on the edges. A different feel or size cannot stand in for the advertised unit.
- Read the transaction terms. Get delivery charges, inspection rights, return window, restocking fees and warranty responsibility in writing.
- Confirm hygiene and transport. For a used mattress, ask whether it was protected, kept in a dry smoke-free environment and transported in a clean covered vehicle.
