The Kindle setting that makes page changes feel more like turning pages is called Page Turn Animation. On a supported Kindle e-reader and in a supported book, open the book, tap the top of the screen, then choose Aa → More → Page Turn Animation and switch it on. The effect adds direction to the transition; Amazon does not describe it as a realistic paper curl.
Turn on Page Turn Animation on a Kindle e-reader
- Open a book on your Kindle.
- Tap the top of the screen to reveal the reading controls.
- Tap Aa, the Page Display control, then choose More.
- Switch on Page Turn Animation, if the option is available.
Amazon’s Kindle Colorsoft User Guide says the feature adds directionality to a page transition, making it easier to tell whether you are moving forward or backward in a book. It is best understood as a directional transition—not a promise of a lifelike paper-page effect.
Why the setting may be missing
Page Turn Animation is not guaranteed to appear on every Kindle or in every book. Amazon’s Colorsoft guide limits the feature to supported books, and Amazon’s Kindle display instructions note that available settings vary by device model.
- Check another book: the current title may not support the animation.
- Check the device: Kindle models do not all expose identical display settings.
- Check the reading context: a Kindle e-reader and the Kindle app have different menus.
The cited official guidance does not provide a complete model-by-model compatibility list, so an absent toggle alone cannot identify which limitation applies.

Using the Kindle app instead
On the Kindle app, open the in-book Aa reading options and look under More. An Amazon staff response dated September 15, 2024, gives the Android app path as Aa → More → Page turn animation for a reader asking about the feature. App menus are app-specific; that answer does not establish that the control is available on every Kindle e-reader. See Amazon’s reading-app accessibility options for app reading settings.
Page Turn Animation is not Page Flip
Page Turn Animation changes the transition as you move between pages. Page Flip is a separate navigation and overview feature that lets readers scan through a book while saving their place, as described in Amazon KDP’s Enhanced Typesetting documentation. Page refresh is another separate display setting, not the animation toggle.
