If a Killer Ethernet connection stops working, first check the adapter in Device Manager and note its error code. A failed network adapter driver, a Killer software-suite problem, and a Windows installation conflict need different fixes. Use the steps below in order, choosing the path that matches the symptom.
Identify whether the adapter or Killer software is failing
- Press
Windows key + R, enterdevmgmt.msc, and press Enter. Expand Network adapters; note the exact Killer Ethernet adapter name and whether it has a warning icon. - Open Settings > System > About to record the Windows edition and version, or press
Windows key + R, enterwinver, and press Enter. Record the PC or motherboard model as well. - In Device Manager, right-click the adapter, choose Properties, and check Device status on the General tab for an error code.
Do not treat a Killer application message as proof that the Ethernet driver has stopped. Intel says “Service Not Running” and “No Killer Adapter Connected” can result from an incompatible adapter/software pairing, outdated or incorrectly registered software, or connectivity trouble—not necessarily a failed driver. Intel’s guidance for these Killer status messages covers the software and service checks.
Install a driver that matches the PC and adapter
Start with the support page for the exact computer or motherboard model. Manufacturers may provide model-specific packages, so do not assume that any Killer driver is suitable. If there is no applicable OEM package, use Intel’s Killer Performance Suite download record to confirm adapter and Windows support. Intel’s record covers 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11 and lists package and driver versions by supported adapter; it was reviewed September 9, 2026, so check its current details before installing.

If the affected PC is offline, download the installer on another device and transfer it with removable media. Keep the installer available before removing existing software.

Use a clean install for a Killer suite or update problem
If a normal update has not fixed a Performance Suite problem, Intel recommends trying a clean installation. Follow Intel’s current clean-install instructions, including any prompts specific to the package you downloaded.
- Download the matching installer before uninstalling anything.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps (called Apps & features in some Windows versions) and uninstall Intel Killer Performance Suite.
- Restart the PC.
- Remove temporary installation files as directed in Intel’s article, then run the downloaded installer and complete setup.
- Restart again if the installer requests it, then check the Ethernet connection.
Follow the Device Manager code-specific fix
For Code 43 or Code 56
Intel’s documented procedure for these Killer adapter errors is to uninstall the device without removing its driver package, restart Windows, and then update the driver. In Device Manager, right-click the Killer adapter, select Uninstall device, and leave any checkbox for deleting or removing the driver software unchecked. Confirm the uninstall, restart the computer, then update through Intel Download Center or Intel Driver & Support Assistant. See Intel’s Code 43 and Code 56 instructions.

For Code 10 or another code
Do not apply the Code 43/56 steps as though all Device Manager errors were the same. Intel directs Code 10 cases to separate device-code guidance. Check the message shown for the adapter and use the procedure for that specific code.
Resolve the specific Windows 11 Killer suite conflict
If installation reports a conflict between the default Intel Killer Performance Driver Suite UWD and the Killer Ethernet Performance Suite, use Intel’s procedure for that conflict—not as a general first fix for every stopped driver. Uninstall the default UWD suite, restart, install the updated Intel Killer Performance Suite, and restart again. Troubleshoot “Service Not Running” or “No Killer Adapter Connected”
If Device Manager does not show a driver error but the Killer application reports one of these messages, check that the installed software supports the exact adapter and that the package is appropriate for the Windows version. Intel also advises checking whether Killer network services are configured to start automatically. Security or cleanup software can block those services, so consider whether a recent change to such software coincided with the message. Use Intel’s service-status troubleshooting steps rather than concluding that the adapter hardware has failed.

When the connection still does not work
If the correct OEM or Intel package and the relevant documented procedure do not resolve the problem, the cause cannot be identified from the symptom alone. A useful escalation record includes the PC or motherboard model, adapter name and hardware ID, Windows build, Device Manager error code, and driver package/version. The manufacturer’s support team can use those details to verify the right OEM driver and investigate whether the failure is software or hardware. Consider replacement Ethernet hardware only if diagnostics point to a failed onboard adapter; a new card is not a driver repair.
