Kick VOD chat can drift behind accelerated video because, according to developer Mateus Bentes, the native replay displays messages on a wall-clock schedule instead of letting the video’s playback clock control when they appear. His free Chrome extension, VOD Chat Sync for Kick, is designed to align replay messages with the video time—including at 1.5x. Its behavior and performance claims come from the developer and store listing, not independent testing.
Why Kick VOD chat can fall behind at faster speeds
In a September 28, 2026 article, Mateus Bentes describes a timing mismatch in Kick’s VOD replay: the site fetches message windows according to video time, but displays messages according to wall-clock time. When the video runs faster than real time, it can move ahead while chat continues to appear at a slower pace.
Bentes reports that, in his own measurement, native chat was about 40 seconds behind after 30 seconds of watching at 2x. That is one author-reported observation, not a platform-wide measurement or independently replicated result. He attributes the drift to the clocks used for replay, rather than to a network delay.

Kick’s Help Center says a small delay between sending a message and its appearance in chat is normal; delays of 30 seconds or more usually point to a network issue. That guidance concerns general chat delay, not the accelerated VOD replay timing mismatch Bentes describes. How the extension is designed to synchronize replay
The extension uses the video’s playback position to decide which messages belong onscreen. Bentes describes its time mapping as absoluteTime = vodStartMs + video.currentTime * 1000. In effect, it combines the VOD’s start time with the video’s current position to determine the corresponding point in the chat timeline.
- Fetch ahead: The extension requests messages in five-second windows roughly 30 seconds ahead of playback, according to Bentes.
- Display by timestamp: It shows each message when the mapped video time reaches that message’s timestamp.
- Reconcile seeks: It resets the visible message list after a backward seek or a large forward jump.
Because the video clock sets the schedule, Bentes says the same approach covers 1.25x, 1.5x, 2x, pausing, and seeking without separate logic for each playback speed. The Chrome Web Store listing also advertises synchronization across playback speeds, while paused, and after seeking. These are developer and listing claims, not independently verified test results.

Other implementation details
Bentes says the extension responds to video events as well as timers, since Chrome may throttle timers in background or unfocused tabs. He also describes observing Kick’s single-page-app navigation so the extension can clean up when a viewer leaves a VOD, matching the site’s chat appearance, and offering a switch between synchronized chat and the original replay. He says he compared 54 messages side by side with native chat; that is a description of his process, not an independent quality assessment.
What the listing and disclosures say
The Chrome Web Store listing names the extension VOD Chat Sync for Kick. When the listing was accessed for this article, it showed version 0.5.2, an update date of September 27, 2026, and English and Brazilian Portuguese language support. Version, update date, and availability can change.

Bentes describes the extension as free and MIT-licensed, and links to its GitHub source repository. The store listing reports the developer’s declaration that the extension does not collect or use data. Those are disclosures, not the results of a security audit or an independent review of the repository code.

- Open the Chrome Web Store listing for VOD Chat Sync for Kick and check its current version and availability before installing.
- Open a Kick VOD and use the extension’s synchronized-chat option, if available in your installed version. The listing advertises support for speed changes, pausing, and seeking.
- If Kick behaves unexpectedly, test it in a private or incognito window and then re-enable extensions one at a time. Kick recommends this process to identify browser-extension conflicts in its browser compatibility and settings guide.
If the issue is delayed live chat rather than VOD replay drifting at increased speed, follow Kick’s connectivity and refresh guidance instead; the two timing problems have different explanations.
