The Kenwood Blend X-Treme BLP900BK is a discontinued blender with a 2 L plastic jug, three automatic programmes and variable-speed control. Those features make it look capable on paper, but public information does not establish how well it blends: CHOICE keeps its performance rating and task-by-task results behind its membership access. Treat the specifications as a guide to capacity and operation, not proof of performance, and check the condition and included parts carefully if you find one for sale.
What the BLP900BK offers
CHOICE describes the BLP900BK as a high-performance blender and labels it a discontinued model. Its public listing gives the following specifications:

These are listing specifications, not results from an independent performance test. In particular, the wattage alone does not show how smoothly the blender handles a recipe, and the noise figure should be treated as a listed value rather than a comparative test result. The 54 cm height is also worth checking against your counter clearance.
How well does it blend?
The public CHOICE listing does not reveal the BLP900BK’s expert rating, performance score or ease-of-use score. Its task results—including smoothies, kale, nut butter, sorbet, soft liquids, ice crushing, chopping, dough, dry-milling nuts and parmesan—are members-only. The listing confirms that testing exists, but does not provide public evidence to say whether the blender performs well or poorly on those tasks.

That leaves a practical limit on this review: the manufacturer’s manual explains the controls and recommended loads, but those instructions are not independent proof of the results you will get. If blending performance is the deciding factor, seek accessible task-level results for the exact model rather than inferring them from its category label or rated power.
Programmes, controls and capacity limits
The TYPE BLP90 manual describes three programmes: smoothies, ice crush and soup. It also has variable speed and a pulse lever; pulse runs only while the lever is held. A selected programme stops automatically when it finishes. The appliance includes a fixed-blade goblet, lid and filler cap, plus a stir stick intended for cold ingredients.

- Milkshakes and other milk-based drinks: up to 1.5 L.
- Smoothies: up to 2 L, including a 1 L liquid component.
- Soup: up to 2 L for stock-based soup, or 1.5 L when made with milk. Ingredients must be cooled to room temperature before blending.
- Ice crushing: 200 g, or 10 ice cubes, using the 30-second programme.
These are manufacturer usage-chart limits, not independent test findings. The manual also gives variable-speed examples: almond milk made with 150 g almonds and 700 ml cold water for no more than 60 seconds; hummus with 400 g chickpeas for 30–60 seconds; and mayonnaise using up to three eggs for no more than 60 seconds. Treat them as operating directions rather than guarantees of consistency or outcome.
Important operating and cleaning guidance
Keep to the running limits
The manual limits continuous operation to three minutes and says not to run the blender empty. Thick mixtures such as dips and nut butters may need scraping down; if processing is difficult, add liquid and use the stir stick. Use the stir stick only with cold ingredients and for no more than 60 seconds.
Do not blend hot ingredients
Kenwood’s manual states: “DO NOT process hot ingredients.” It warns of scald risk and says hot ingredients must cool to room temperature before going into the goblet or being blended. This is particularly important for soup: use the listed capacity limit, but blend only after cooling.

Protect the blades and plastic parts
The manual warns that hard spices such as nutmeg or turmeric root may damage the blade. It also says spice processing is not recommended because spices may damage plastic parts.
Clean by hand and keep the base dry
The goblet is not dishwasher safe. Kenwood recommends washing it with warm water, rinsing and air-drying it, and hand-washing the lid, filler cap and stir stick; the manual says not to put any parts in the dishwasher. Switch off and unplug before dismantling or cleaning. Wipe the power unit rather than immersing it, and do not let the power unit, cord or plug get wet.
Reset after an overload
If the blender overloads, the manual directs you to switch it off, unplug it, remove excess ingredients and let it rest for a few minutes. Then press the reset button on the underside of the power unit. Unplug before fitting or removing parts or reaching into the goblet, and wait for the blades to stop before removing the goblet.

What to check before buying a discontinued model
CHOICE’s listing marks the BLP900BK as discontinued. That is a product-status label; it does not establish why or when production ended. Current retailer stock, the price you may encounter and the availability of compatible replacement parts are not established by the public listing or manual.
Before buying remaining stock or a used unit, verify the specific appliance rather than relying on a listing title:
- Confirm the model designation is BLP900BK and, where available, that its documentation matches the TYPE BLP90 manual family.
- Check the motor base, controls, cord, goblet and fixed blades for damage or signs of heavy use.
- Confirm that the goblet and lid are included, along with the filler cap and stir stick if you expect to use them.
- Ask the seller about the return terms and test the controls and programmes if an in-person check is possible.
- Check with the seller or manufacturer support whether compatible parts can be supplied for your exact model before relying on future replacement availability.
CHOICE’s Australian listing showed A$699 when accessed in 2026, but that figure may be stale and is not a current or universal price. Compare the actual offer in your market with the condition, included parts and return protection.

Who should consider the BLP900BK?
The BLP900BK may suit someone who specifically wants a large-capacity jug, preset smoothie, ice-crush and soup programmes, and is comfortable with a discontinued appliance and hand-cleaning. Its listed height, weight and noise level may also matter in a kitchen with limited counter space, frequent lifting or noise-sensitive use.
It is a harder choice if you need publicly verifiable independent performance scores, guaranteed current parts support, dishwasher-safe components or a new model with clearly established availability. The evidence available publicly describes its features and intended use, but does not settle how well it performs in the kitchen.
