Keith Ferrazzi uses a bear metaphor to argue that workers should adapt to AI and automation, and he describes a peer-learning system with yellow, brown and black belts. But the available primary sources do not verify that Lowe’s is running that belt program. Ferrazzi’s bear article does not mention Lowe’s or a broken training script.
What Ferrazzi means by “the bear”
In an Aug. 19, 2025 LinkedIn article, Ferrazzi uses a bear as a metaphor for AI and automation disrupting existing jobs. His point is not that workers must outrun the technology itself, but that they should adapt faster than their peers: “And here’s the brutal truth: you don’t have to outrun the bear. His practical advice is to start with work people can examine and improve: test an AI tool on a repetitive task, share useful results, rethink how a role could work with AI, and collaborate with colleagues to redesign shared processes. The article does not describe a broken AI training script.
How the yellow, brown and black belts work
Ferrazzi’s April 3, 2025 article presents the belts as stages in peer-led learning, not as a formal technical certification. The emphasis is on participation, useful practice and teaching others. Read the article on LinkedIn.

Ferrazzi’s model puts peer learning at its center: small groups practice together, document what works, regroup to spread knowledge, and use experienced participants as coaches. A Feb. 3, 2025 article from Ferrazzi Greenlight describes one operational version: identify employees already using AI, form groups of four, meet weekly for a month, document practices, then have experienced users coach volunteers. Is Lowe’s actually running this belt ladder?
That claim is not confirmed by the available primary-source material. Ferrazzi’s articles explain his own framework, and his official speaking page describes an internal “AI Blackbelt Squad” as part of his approach to AI-enabled collaboration. Social posts surfaced claims about a Lowe’s AI Day and associate participation, but they do not provide Lowe’s documentation verifying the event details or a belt progression. Without an official Lowe’s announcement, event materials or a detailed, attributable account from someone involved, those claims should not be treated as established facts. No participant count or AI Day outcome is verified here.

- Participation: Are employees volunteering to learn, or is participation required?
- Peer learning: Do participants practice in groups and receive coaching from experienced colleagues?
- Evidence of progress: Are practices documented, and are outcomes demonstrated rather than assumed from a belt label?
These questions describe how Ferrazzi’s model can be assessed; they do not establish that any particular company, including Lowe’s, is using it.
