Karmine Corp defeated Cloud9 3–2 in Round 1 of the 2026 League of Legends World Championship Play-In on 15 October. The best-of-five win gives Europe’s representative the upper-bracket advantage, while North America’s Cloud9 drops to the elimination side of the four-team bracket.
Karmine Corp wins the first EU–NA Play-In series
The reported final score was Cloud9 2–3 Karmine Corp. The match was scheduled for 18:00 UTC on 15 October 2026 and was listed as a best-of-five by both Liquipedia’s match record and Sheep Esports’ series listing. In practical terms, KC needed three game wins and Cloud9 needed two to take the opening series.
“First blood” describes the first series win in the EU-versus-NA narrative, not necessarily the first in-game kill. The available match material does not identify which player secured the literal opening kill, so no player should be credited with that statistic.

A five-game result shows that neither side won quickly. KC ultimately converted the deciding advantage, but the score alone does not establish individual player performances, gold differences, game lengths, draft trends or which games each team won. How the result changes the Play-In bracket
The 2026 Play-In has four teams—Cloud9, Karmine Corp, MVK Esports and FURIA—in a double-elimination format. Only one team earns a place in the Worlds Swiss stage, according to the tournament preview from AS/Meristation.

Karmine Corp stays on the winners’ route
By taking the opening upper-bracket series, KC remains in the winners’ path. It can lose once later in the double-elimination bracket without being immediately eliminated, although the one-berth format means every subsequent series still carries qualification consequences. The available reports do not specify KC’s next opponent or the date of its next match.
Cloud9 moves to the lower bracket
Cloud9’s 2–3 loss sends it to the lower bracket. That is not elimination: the team still has a route back toward the qualification match. However, another defeat will remove C9 from the Play-In and end its chance to reach the Swiss stage.

Why one qualification place raises the stakes
With four teams competing for one Swiss-stage berth, there is no room for both regions to advance through this Play-In. KC’s win gives Europe the initial bracket advantage, while Cloud9 must now survive an elimination-side series before it can challenge again for the sole qualification place. MVK Esports and FURIA remain part of the same double-elimination race.

What this match does—and does not—prove
- It proves that Karmine Corp won the reported opening Play-In series against Cloud9.
- It places KC in the upper bracket and C9 in the lower bracket of the four-team double-elimination event.
- It gives Europe the first series win in this specific 2026 EU–NA Play-In meeting.
- It does not establish a literal first-kill player, game-by-game scoreline, gold lead, game duration or individual award.
- It does not by itself decide which team reaches the Swiss stage; only one of the four Play-In teams can qualify.
What to check in the next bracket updates
The next confirmed bracket listing will determine KC’s upper-bracket opponent and Cloud9’s elimination-side opponent. Until those pairings and official game statistics are published, the reliable competitive takeaway is the bracket state: Karmine Corp has one series win and a safety net, while Cloud9 must win its next opportunity to remain in contention.
