If you’ve just beaten Resident Evil Village, the main follow-up is Shadows of Rose, the story expansion included in Winters’ Expansion. It takes place 16 years after the main story and follows Rosemary Winters. The title “RE Village” most plausibly refers to Capcom’s game, but it doesn’t tell us what the player thought of it—so, if you’ve finished too, what stood out to you?
What comes after the main story?
Capcom released Winters’ Expansion alongside Resident Evil Village Gold Edition on October 28, 2022. Capcom described the Gold Edition as adding a new story and Third-Person Mode to the 2021 game. Its additional story, Shadows of Rose, is set 16 years after the main story and focuses on Rosemary “Rose” Winters. Capcom USA’s launch announcement describes Rose as seeking to rid herself of the strange powers that have affected her throughout her life.

If you want more of the story after finishing the campaign, Shadows of Rose is the relevant add-on. If you would rather revisit the main game from a different perspective, Third-Person Mode is another part of Winters’ Expansion.

What does Gold Edition include?
Gold Edition combines the base game with additional content, but the precise contents can vary by regional listing. Capcom’s official descriptions do not present one universal list:

- The official Xbox listing describes Gold Edition as including the main game, Winters’ Expansion, and Trauma Pack DLC.
Check the listing for your platform and region before purchasing or assuming a particular bonus is included. Capcom’s Japanese support page says VR Mode is not included in that Gold Edition and must be downloaded separately for free through PlayStation Store; that detail should not be generalized to every region or platform.
Which version makes sense if you have not played it?
The choice depends on what you already own and what you want to play. Compare the regional storefront listing before buying, since the package contents differ in the official descriptions above.

- You already own the base game: Look for Winters’ Expansion rather than buying a bundle that includes the base game again.
- You mainly want the post-game story: Confirm that the listing includes Winters’ Expansion and Shadows of Rose.
- You care about a specific mode or bonus: Verify that exact item on your platform’s regional product page; do not rely on the edition name alone.

How big did the game become?
Capcom reported that Resident Evil Village had sold 6.1 million units worldwide as of March 31, 2022, in its June 2022 Gold Edition announcement. In June 2024, Capcom said the game had passed 10 million worldwide sales within three years of its 2021 release, making it the fastest title in the series to reach that milestone. That is a dated milestone, not a current sales total. Capcom’s 2024 announcement provides the later figure.
