Running a modpack with friends? Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks (CurseForge, FTB, Technic) and free DDoS protection.
Jurassic World Reborn II currently targets Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge. Install it through the CurseForge launcher, use Java 17 or newer, and allocate about 16–20 GB of memory to the client when your computer has that much available. For multiplayer, download the separate JWR II ServerPack: the published guidance is 14 GB of server RAM minimum and 16 GB recommended.
Do not add OptiFine. The pack documents Oculus and Rubidium as its shader and rendering path, and lists OptiFine as incompatible. This guide covers a clean client installation, dedicated-server setup, player connection, memory planning, performance tuning, updates, and the failure modes most likely to stop the pack from launching.
What Jurassic World Reborn II includes
Jurassic World Reborn II is a large dinosaur-focused exploration and survival pack for Minecraft 1.20.1 on Forge. The current CurseForge listing identifies version 1.1.2 as the latest 1.20.1 Forge release dated August 30, 2026. Because the pack contains more than 560 mods, its startup time, storage use, and memory requirements are substantially higher than those of a lightly modded profile.
The content is built around collecting and raising prehistoric creatures. Jurassic Reborn contributes 108 prehistoric creatures, while Fossils & Archeology adds more than 60 revivable creatures. The documented progression includes finding fossils, extracting DNA, incubating eggs, raising animals, constructing habitats, and exploring the Twilight Forest, Nether, and End alongside the normal Overworld.

Requirements to check before installing
- Minecraft and loader: Minecraft 1.20.1 with the Forge profile used by the selected JWR II release.
- Java: Java 17 or newer. The project specifically says to use optimized Java arguments for best performance.
- Client memory: 16–20 GB allocated to Minecraft is the project recommendation. Leave enough physical memory for Windows, macOS, Linux, the launcher, voice chat, and other applications; assigning all installed RAM to Minecraft can make the entire computer stall.
- Storage: keep several gigabytes free for the profile, generated configuration, logs, backups, and a world that grows as players explore.
- Launcher: the CurseForge launcher is required by the public installation guidance.
- Graphics setup: do not install OptiFine. The pack supplies its documented shader route through Oculus and Rubidium.
Use the same release number, Minecraft version, Forge loader, and client-side files on every computer that will join a server. A profile that merely has a similar name is not sufficient: a single mismatched mod or configuration can produce a registry error or disconnect during login.
Install the client with CurseForge
- Install or open the CurseForge launcher. In the Minecraft section, create or select the Jurassic World Reborn II profile. Confirm that the profile shows Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge rather than another loader.
- Choose the Java runtime. Open the launcher’s Minecraft settings and select a Java 17-or-newer executable. If the launcher offers an automatic Java installation, verify the displayed major version instead of assuming that the bundled runtime is current.
- Set memory deliberately. Start near 16 GB when the computer has adequate physical RAM; move toward 20 GB only when the operating system and other programs still have comfortable headroom. Excessive allocation does not compensate for a slow disk or an unsuitable Java runtime.
- Install the exact pack release. Select the server’s intended JWR II version, not simply the newest profile available. Record the version number so it can be compared with the server later.
- Launch once without adding mods. The first run creates configuration files, downloads or verifies dependencies, and builds Forge’s mod list. A long pause during this stage is normal for a 560-plus-mod pack.
- Close and relaunch after the initial setup. Check that the title screen reaches the normal single-player and multiplayer menus, then create a test world only if you need to verify graphics and controls.
Why the first client launch takes so long
Forge must register hundreds of mods, load large data sets, prepare shaders and renderer integrations, and compile or cache assets. Disk activity may come in bursts, and the window can appear unresponsive for several minutes. Watch the launcher log or operating-system activity before terminating it. Repeatedly killing the process during registration can leave an incomplete profile that takes longer to repair than a clean reinstall.

Graphics and shader compatibility
The project’s explicit compatibility note is: “OptiFine: ❌ Incompatible with this modpack (shaders included via Oculus/Rubidium).” If a crash begins after copying OptiFine into the mods folder, remove that jar and any OptiFine-specific configuration before testing again. Do not install a second shader or performance stack merely because it works with another 1.20.1 pack; renderer mix-ins can conflict even when the Minecraft version matches.
Use the correct files for a dedicated server
A JWR II client profile is not a runnable dedicated server. Download the separate JWR II ServerPack matching the client release from the project’s CurseForge files. The server package is described as containing the mod jars, configuration files, and a start script. Mixing the client zip with a server directory commonly leaves missing libraries, client-only mods, or an incorrect launch command.

Published server capacity guidance
| Item | Published value | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Server RAM minimum | 14 GB | The project’s minimum for running the pack as a server; lower allocations may fail during startup or become unstable under exploration. |
| Server RAM recommendation | 16 GB | The project’s recommended allocation for optimal performance. |
| Target tick rate | 20 TPS | The project’s expected stable rate with multiple players exploring; it is an expectation from the listing, not an independent benchmark. |
| Java | Java 17 or newer | Use the same major-version requirement as the client and confirm it from the server console. |
A generic hosting walkthrough may show an argument such as -Xmx8G. Treat that as an example command, not as JWR II capacity guidance: it is below the project’s published 14–16 GB server range.
Dedicated-server installation, step by step
- Create a clean directory. Make a new folder dedicated to this world and server release. Avoid placing it inside the client profile, and avoid reusing a directory from a different Forge pack.
- Download the matching JWR II ServerPack. Confirm its Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge, and JWR II version labels match the client release you plan to distribute.
- Extract all files. Preserve the supplied directory structure, mod jars, configuration folders, libraries, and start script. Do not remove files because they appear unused.
- Install Forge if needed. If the package does not already include a working Forge server installation, run the Forge server installer with Java 17 and point it at this server directory. Follow the setup guide’s generated launch command rather than inventing a client launch command.
- Set memory in the start script. Use at least
-Xmx14Gand preferably-Xmx16Gwhen the machine can reserve that memory while leaving headroom for the operating system and file cache. Set an appropriate minimum heap as well, but do not commit all physical RAM to Java. - Start once, then stop cleanly. The first run creates
eula.txt, world folders, logs, and additional configuration. Wait for generation to finish before stopping the process. - Accept the EULA. Open
eula.txt, change the setting toeula=true, save it, and start the server again. - Wait for the completed startup state. Judge readiness only after the console reaches its completed “Done” state. Registration of hundreds of mods can make the first boot take several minutes.
- Test locally. Join from the host computer or local network first. This separates a mod or Forge problem from firewall, router, and port-forwarding problems.
Start-script example
The exact script supplied with the ServerPack should take precedence. If you must edit its memory values, preserve its Forge arguments and change only the heap settings, for example -Xms8G -Xmx16G. The minimum heap is not the same as the maximum; the important capacity figure for this pack is the maximum available to the server. Never delete Forge’s required arguments when changing RAM.

Let friends connect safely
- Give every player the same JWR II release, Minecraft 1.20.1 version, Forge loader, and client files.
- Start the server and wait until it reports that it is ready.
- For players on the same home network, provide the host computer’s local address and the port shown in
server.properties. - For internet players, allow the server port through the host firewall and configure the router to forward that port to the server computer. Do not expose unrelated administrative ports.
- Have a friend test from outside the host network. A successful local connection does not prove that port forwarding or an internet firewall rule is correct.
- Keep a whitelist enabled when the server is private, and share the address only with intended players.
If the server is hosted remotely, choose a plan that actually allocates 14–16 GB to the Java process, supports custom Forge 1.20.1 CurseForge server packs, exposes files and configuration, provides restorable backups, and has a location near the players. A low advertised memory number, limited file access, or an inability to upload the ServerPack is a poor fit even if the monthly price is lower.
Performance tuning that does not break the pack
Server-side priorities
- Start with the published 14 GB minimum or 16 GB recommendation before changing gameplay settings.
- Keep view distance and simulation distance reasonable when several players are generating new chunks. Exploration is the heaviest normal workload because it combines chunk generation, structures, dimensions, mobs, and modded world data.
- Use the server console and a tick monitor to watch TPS while players travel. The project’s 20 TPS figure is a stated expectation, not a guarantee for every CPU, world, or player count.
- Pre-generate terrain only if you understand the additional disk and memory load; large pre-generation jobs can make a live server less responsive.
- Schedule backups while player activity is low and retain more than one restore point.
Client-side priorities
- Keep 16–20 GB allocated when available, but leave operating-system headroom.
- Use the pack’s Oculus/Rubidium graphics path and avoid OptiFine.
- Reduce render distance, shader quality, and particle effects before removing core mods.
- Close memory-heavy applications before launching. Paging to disk can feel like a modpack crash even when Java itself has not failed.
Troubleshoot by symptom
The client crashes before the title screen
- Remove OptiFine and any manually added shader, performance, or minimap jars.
- Verify Java 17 or newer is selected in the launcher.
- Confirm the profile is Forge 1.20.1 and that the selected JWR II release is complete.
- Restore the original configuration files if you edited them, then launch again with the project’s default mod list.
- If the profile remains damaged, create a fresh profile at the same release rather than copying an unknown collection of jars from another pack.
The server exits immediately
- Check the Java executable and confirm it reports version 17 or newer.
- Run the Forge server installer again if the Forge libraries or launch files are missing.
- Confirm that
eula.txtcontainseula=true. - Inspect the start script for a typo in
-Xmxor a path that points to a different Java installation. - Make sure the machine can provide the requested 14–16 GB without the operating system killing the process.
- Read the first error in the log, not only the final “server stopped” line; the last line is often a consequence rather than the cause.
The first boot appears frozen
Allow several minutes for mod registration, data generation, and world setup. Check CPU, disk, and Java process activity. If the console is still producing progress messages, wait. Interrupt only after confirming there is no activity and then retry with the same clean files and adequate memory.

- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
A player cannot join
- Compare the exact JWR II version on the client and server.
- Compare Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge versions.
- Ensure the player installed the client profile rather than copying the server directory, and ensure the server uses the ServerPack rather than the client zip.
- Read the client and server logs for a missing-mod, registry, or channel mismatch.
- If the error appears only for internet players, test the firewall and port forwarding separately from mod compatibility.
TPS drops while several players explore
Watch whether the drop coincides with new chunk generation. Confirm that the server has the published memory allocation, lower view and simulation distances, and move players away from simultaneous exploration fronts. A stable idle server does not demonstrate stable performance during heavy world generation.
Self-hosting versus managed hosting
Both approaches can run the same ServerPack. Self-hosting offers direct hardware and file control but makes you responsible for Java, network exposure, backups, power interruptions, and troubleshooting. Managed hosting can simplify uptime and networking, but only if the plan allows the required memory and custom files.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches| Decision factor | Self-hosted computer | Managed server |
|---|---|---|
| RAM | You control physical allocation; reserve at least 14 GB for Java plus operating-system headroom. | Verify that 14–16 GB is genuinely allocated to the instance, not merely listed as burst or shared memory. |
| Pack installation | Full control over the ServerPack, Forge installer, scripts, and configs. | Confirm custom Forge 1.20.1 uploads and CurseForge ServerPack support before buying. |
| Networking | You configure firewall rules, router forwarding, and a reachable address. | The provider normally supplies an address and port, but you still configure the game and whitelist. |
| Backups | You must automate, store, and test restores yourself. | Check backup frequency, retention, download access, and whether restores include the world and configs. |
| Latency | Usually best for players near the host’s internet connection. | Select a data-center region close to the player group. |
| Cost | Uses existing hardware and electricity; upgrades are your responsibility. | Compare the recurring price, renewal terms, storage limits, and any fees for extra backups or memory. |
Backups, updates, and rollback planning
Before updating JWR II, stop the server cleanly and back up the world, server.properties, whitelist and operator files, configuration directories, and the exact ServerPack archive. Keep the previous release available until every player has confirmed that the new client and world load correctly.
Do not update one side independently. Install the new client release for testing, then update the server with its matching ServerPack. If a world fails after the change, stop the server, restore the previous files and backup, and investigate from a copy. Never test an uncertain mod change on the only copy of an active world.
Gameplay orientation after installation
Once the client and server are stable, the intended loop is broad rather than linear: explore for fossils, process DNA, incubate eggs, raise creatures, build habitats, and expand into modded dimensions. The large creature roster makes enclosure design, transport, food supply, and safe separation important practical concerns. Early sessions are also a good time to confirm that every player can see the same creature models and recipes before investing in a permanent base.
Quick Recap
Quick pre-launch checklist
- Client and server both show Minecraft 1.20.1 and the same Forge-based JWR II release.
- Java 17 or newer is selected on every machine.
- Client allocation is planned around 16–20 GB with operating-system headroom.
- Server allocation is at least 14 GB, with 16 GB preferred.
- The server uses the JWR II ServerPack, not the client archive.
- OptiFine is absent; Oculus/Rubidium remains the graphics path.
- The server has started to the completed “Done” state and accepted the EULA.
- Firewall, router forwarding, whitelist, and backups are tested before inviting players.
