Yes, Jotform documents security controls that can make it suitable for many ordinary forms—but it is not automatically private or appropriate for sensitive data. Protection depends on your account and form settings, the type of information collected, and the plan and contracts you use. In particular, Jotform’s optional submission-encryption feature does not cover uploaded files, and form owners can share submissions or make them public.
What Jotform says it protects
Jotform says its forms use HTTPS with TLS 1.2 and SHA256/RSA to protect connections in transit. Separately, form owners can enable optional submission encryption using a custom password; Jotform describes that feature as using 2048-bit RSA keys. These are the vendor’s documented controls, not independent verification of a particular form or account. Jotform’s security documentation and security FAQ describe the features.
For encrypted forms, Jotform says notification emails do not contain submission data and are not encrypted. The feature has an important boundary: Jotform states, “File uploads aren’t covered by this feature.” If a form accepts identity documents, medical records, or other sensitive attachments, evaluate upload protection separately. Jotform says uploads receive complex URLs and that access can be further limited by requiring a Jotform login. See Jotform’s security details.

Jotform says submission access requires signing in to the account that owns the form by default. That default is not a guarantee that responses remain private: owners can share access within an organization or make data public. Review the specific form’s visibility, all users with access, and any integrations that receive responses before collecting personal information. Jotform documents these access controls.

Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on the account and use unique credentials. Jotform describes 2FA as requiring an additional verification step alongside a password. Account protection helps reduce the risk of unauthorized access, but does not correct an overly broad sharing setting.
How Jotform plans differ for sensitive or regulated data
Security features vary by service configuration. Jotform’s Enterprise FAQ says its standard Enterprise environment uses disk-level encryption at rest. Its HIPAA-enabled setup adds database-level encryption for individual submissions using AES-256, with RSA-2048 protection for the keys. Enterprise also offers SAML 2.0 single sign-on (SSO), internal forms protected by organizational authentication, and data-residency options. Jotform says it offers a SOC 2 compliance solution to Enterprise customers. That statement alone does not identify the report type, audit period, scope, or product components covered. Ask for the current applicable report or attestation and check its details. For regulated data, verify the contract, any required business associate agreement (BAA), retention and deletion terms, and the exact service configuration before collecting information.
Jotform Government describes controls aligned with NIST SP 800-53 Rev. 5 and says it participates in GovRAMP’s Progressing Snapshot Program. Its documentation describes GovRAMP authorization and later FedRAMP authorization as goals; it does not establish that the service is currently authorized under either program. Check Jotform Government’s current status.

What Jotform’s privacy policy means for your data
Jotform’s Privacy Policy, revised August 31, 2026, says customer form data may be stored with providers including AWS and Google Cloud. It says data is usually stored in the United States, with regional storage available in some cases, and that certain subprocessors—including AI providers—help deliver platform functionality. Review the policy, AI policy, subprocessor terms, and applicable data-processing terms for your use case. Read Jotform’s Privacy Policy.
There are two privacy relationships to consider. Jotform processes data to provide its platform, while the form creator chooses why to collect responses and how to handle them. If you are filling out someone else’s form, read the creator’s privacy notice; the platform’s security controls do not tell you what that organization will do with your answers. What an external security rating can—and cannot—tell you
UpGuard’s report on Jotform, last updated October 2, 2026, gives an A rating of 895/950 and flags content-security-policy settings involving unsafe-inline and unsafe-eval. UpGuard describes its rating as external attack-surface monitoring based on multiple information feeds. It is a dated outside signal, not a full audit of internal controls, a penetration test, or evidence that customer submissions were exposed. See UpGuard’s report and its stated scope.

The available material does not establish whether Jotform had a confirmed breach, and it does not provide current SOC 2 or PCI audit artifacts or their scope. That gap is not proof that no incident occurred. Organizations handling sensitive information should request current assurance documents and contractual commitments directly from Jotform.

Checklist before publishing a form
- Turn on 2FA for the Jotform account and use a unique password.
- Check who can view submissions, including shared users and connected integrations; make the form or its data public only when intended.
- If collecting files, assess their access controls separately from optional submission encryption. Require login access where appropriate.
- For sensitive or regulated information, confirm the plan, enabled features, data region, subprocessors, retention and deletion terms, and any required BAA.
- Request the current assurance report or attestation, then verify its audit period, scope, and coverage of the specific service.
- For government use, confirm formal authorization status rather than treating participation in a progress program as authorization.
