Johnson & Johnson raised its full-year 2026 sales and adjusted earnings forecasts in its July 15, 2026, second-quarter results. Revenue was $25.310 billion, up 6.6% year over year, but the increase was not driven by medicines alone: the company also cited growth across several MedTech product categories.
What J&J reported for the second quarter
For the quarter ended in 2026, Johnson & Johnson reported sales of $25.310 billion, compared with $23.743 billion in the same quarter of 2025. That is reported growth of 6.6%, according to the company’s July 15 earnings release.
Reported net earnings were $5.534 billion, nearly unchanged from $5.537 billion a year earlier. Reported diluted earnings per share (EPS) was $2.27, compared with $2.29 in Q2 2025. On an adjusted basis, net earnings were $7.081 billion, up 5.7%, and adjusted diluted EPS was $2.90, up 4.7%.

Why the headline should not be read as drug sales alone
J&J attributed growth to products across both its Innovative Medicine and MedTech businesses. The company specifically cited wound-closure and biosurgery products in Surgery; electrophysiology products and Shockwave in Cardiovascular; contact lenses in Vision; and trauma products in Orthopaedics. Those are company-identified contributors, not a detailed breakdown of how much each category added.
Innovative Medicine worldwide operational sales growth was 6.8%, with divestitures reducing that growth by 10 basis points. Operational growth excludes the effect of currency translation. That figure is therefore distinct from the 6.6% growth in total reported company sales, which includes MedTech and uses a different basis.

What changed in the 2026 forecast
The July release raised the company’s full-year estimated reported-sales range to $100.8 billion–$101.4 billion, a midpoint of $101.1 billion. The range implies reported growth of 7.0%–7.6%, or 7.3% at the midpoint. The previous midpoint, given in April, was $100.8 billion.
J&J also increased its adjusted diluted EPS guidance to $11.60–$11.75, with a midpoint of $11.68 and midpoint growth of 8.2%. Its April midpoint was $11.55. Separately, the company’s adjusted operational diluted EPS guidance rose to $11.50–$11.65, a midpoint of $11.58 and midpoint growth of 7.3%; the prior midpoint was $11.40.

These are the company’s guidance figures as issued on July 15, 2026—not a later revision. CEO Joaquin Duato said the company was “on track to meet our 2026 target of more than $100 billion in annual revenue for the first time in our Company’s 140-year history.” That is management’s stated target and expectation, not a guaranteed result.
How to interpret the adjusted numbers
J&J defines operational sales growth as growth excluding currency-translation effects. Adjusted operational sales growth additionally excludes the net impact of acquisitions and divestitures. This is why a reported growth rate and an operational or adjusted operational rate may differ even when they describe the same business and period.

The company says adjusted net earnings, adjusted diluted EPS, and adjusted operational diluted EPS exclude after-tax intangible amortization expense and special items. It classifies these measures as non-GAAP and says they should be read together with, not instead of, the most comparable GAAP measures.
J&J does not provide forward-looking GAAP financial measures in this release. It says it cannot reasonably predict, without unreasonable effort, the ultimate outcome of legal proceedings, unusual gains and losses, acquisition-related expenses, and purchase-accounting fair-value adjustments. As a result, the adjusted outlook should not be mistaken for a GAAP forecast.

What the results establish—and what they do not
The release establishes that reported Q2 sales rose and that J&J lifted its stated 2026 sales and adjusted EPS midpoints compared with April. It also identifies product categories the company says contributed to growth. It does not provide, in the figures summarized here, a complete product-by-product contribution analysis or grounds to attribute total-company growth solely to drug sales.
For comparisons with another quarter or a subsequent forecast, match the same period and metric: reported sales against reported sales, adjusted EPS against adjusted EPS, and reported growth against reported growth. Check whether any sales-growth comparison is reported, operational, or adjusted operational, since currency and portfolio changes affect those measures.
