Yes. Bluehost describes an order flow for a virtual dedicated server (VDS) where eligible plans can be configured with Jitsi Meet. Before buying, confirm that the live plan still offers the application and check its current price. Then make sure the server has enough dedicated resources, the provider allows Jitsi’s media traffic, and you can configure a domain, trusted HTTPS certificate, and access controls.
What buying a VDS with Jitsi Meet installed means
Bluehost’s guide describes choosing a VDS plan, checking that Jitsi Meet is enabled for it, selecting Jitsi Meet during application configuration, and completing checkout. The guide says one application can be installed per purchase and that the system selects an appropriate operating system. Its article, attributed to Irish P and updated August 26, 2026, does not establish which plans are currently eligible or give durable prices; check the provider’s live plan and billing information before ordering. Read Bluehost’s ordering guide.
A preconfigured image can reduce initial installation work, but it does not remove the need to administer the public service: you remain responsible for DNS, firewall rules, certificates, updates, access control, and monitoring. The available documentation does not establish the exact support included with any current plan.
Choose a server by workload, not by a participant-count promise
Jitsi calls Meet “a real-time system.” Its resource needs depend on meeting size, video resolution, network conditions, and add-on services, so a generic CPU-and-RAM specification cannot promise a particular number of participants. Jitsi’s official requirements guidance prioritizes network capacity, then RAM, CPU, and disk.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Specification | Bluehost’s described VDS image | Jitsi’s general guidance |
|---|---|---|
| CPU | At least 4 dedicated cores recommended; its stated minimum is 4 cores. Bluehost warns that the minimum may be inadequate for production. Bluehost guide | Four dedicated cores can be enough for a basic server; Prosody can use one core, so adding cores does not always help. Workload dependent. Jitsi requirements |
| Memory | 8 GB recommended; 4 GB stated as a minimum that may be inadequate for production. Bluehost guide | 8 GB suggested generally; workload dependent. Jitsi requirements |
| Storage | 20 GB SSD recommended; 20 GB disk stated as a minimum. Bluehost guide | About 20 GB can suffice absent heavy logging or special needs. Jitsi requirements |
| Network | 1 Gbps recommended; 100 Mbps stated as a minimum that may be inadequate for production. Bluehost guide | Network link is Jitsi’s first-listed consideration; its guidance does not set a single universal link speed. Jitsi requirements |
These are planning references, not independent capacity tests or guarantees. Jitsi’s indicative bandwidth figures per participant are approximately 200 kbit/s at 180p, 500 kbit/s at 360p, 2,500 kbit/s at 720p, and 10 Mbit/s at 4K. Actual usage varies; use these figures as documentation guidance rather than a guaranteed consumption rate. For larger deployments, Jitsi advises scaling by adding videobridges.
If you need recording
Do not assume recording is included in a basic Meet installation or that the ordinary server recommendation covers it. Jitsi says each Jibri instance handles one meeting at a time and cites at least 8 GB RAM for one 1080×720 recording or 12 GB for one 1280×1024 recording. These figures are Jitsi guidance for the stated recording scenarios; simultaneous recordings require corresponding Jibri capacity.

Check network access, domain, and HTTPS before inviting people
Jitsi’s Debian/Ubuntu package guide supports Debian 12 (Bookworm) or newer and Ubuntu 24.04 (Noble Numbat) or newer, and specifies OpenJDK 17. It calls for a DNS A record pointing the domain to the server. For that documented package setup, the guide lists these ports; the exact needs depend on the deployment and enabled services.

| Protocol and port | Documented purpose |
|---|---|
| TCP 80 | Let’s Encrypt certificate verification and renewal |
| TCP 443 | Jitsi web access |
| UDP 10000 | General meeting audio and video |
| TCP 22 | SSH administration |
| UDP 3478 | Optional STUN |
| TCP 5349 | coturn fallback |
Confirm that the VDS provider permits the relevant inbound traffic and configure both provider-side rules and the server firewall for your actual deployment. Do not open optional ports unless the corresponding service is used. See Jitsi’s Debian/Ubuntu installation guide for the package-specific setup.

Use a real domain and a trusted TLS certificate. Jitsi explains that WebRTC requires an HTTPS-encrypted link for multimedia. Its TLS guidance recommends choosing a Let’s Encrypt certificate during installation or providing a valid certificate. A self-signed certificate can trigger browser identity warnings and may prevent Jitsi mobile apps from connecting. Bluehost’s image guide describes first booting with a self-signed certificate and then configuring a domain and running its SSL setup script; that is the provider’s documented image workflow, not a general Jitsi requirement or a recommendation for production.
Decide who can start meetings
A publicly accessible Jitsi server is not private merely because you control the VDS. Jitsi says anyone who can access an open server can start a conference by default. If only approved users should create rooms, configure secure-domain authentication; for room-level access, Jitsi also documents room passwords. Choose and test an access policy before sharing the server address. Jitsi’s security guide explains the available controls.

| Jitsi selected during VDS checkout | You want the provider’s described application configuration and a shorter initial setup path. | Confirm live eligibility, price, billing term, and what support is included. Bluehost’s guide describes one application per purchase and automatic OS selection; it does not establish current plan availability or support scope. Bluehost guide |
| Install Jitsi yourself | You want control over the operating system and deployment, and are comfortable administering it. | You handle installation, DNS, firewall, TLS, updates, authentication, and monitoring. Jitsi documents both package setup and Docker Compose deployment. |

Purchase checklist
- Check the provider’s live VDS plans, current application eligibility, total billing term, renewal price, and any optional IP or support charges. Bluehost says its prices can change and directs buyers to its VDS product page and renewal center; no current price is established by its guide.
- Match dedicated cores, RAM, storage, and network capacity to expected resolution, participant activity, and whether you will record. Treat generic specifications as planning guidance, not a participant guarantee.
- Confirm the provider permits the required inbound TCP and UDP traffic, especially UDP 10000 for the documented general media path.
- Have a domain under your control and plan for a trusted TLS certificate before users connect.
- Choose whether conference creation is open or restricted, and configure authentication or room passwords accordingly.
- Budget time to patch and monitor the public server after installation; the preconfigured application does not eliminate ongoing administration.
