There is no confirmation in the cited reports that Jio Platforms received more than $20 billion in IPO bids. A Business Standard report carrying Bloomberg reporting said on Oct. 6, 2026, that the company had finished gauging demand and was expected to discuss valuation and pricing with potential investors. Gauging interest is not the same as receiving formal bids, and the report did not disclose a bid total.
What is known about demand—and what is not
Business Standard’s Oct. 6 report, attributed to unnamed people familiar with the matter, said Jio Platforms “has finished gauging demand for the offering” and was likely to begin investor meetings about valuation and pricing. It noted that final dates and other details could change; Jio did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
That account supports a limited conclusion: Jio had assessed investor interest, according to the people cited. It does not establish that an IPO book had opened, that investors had submitted formal subscription bids, or that those bids totaled more than $20 billion. The headline figure should therefore be treated as unverified, not as a disclosed result of the offering.

Why reported valuation estimates differ
Early-October reports gave materially different valuation figures. The Times of India reported on Oct. 4 that banking sources expected an enterprise valuation of $143 billion to $146 billion. Two days later, Business Standard, carrying Bloomberg reporting, put the likely target at about ₹11 trillion, or $114 billion, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter.

These are attributed estimates published on different dates, not confirmed final terms. The Oct. 4 figure is explicitly described as an enterprise valuation. Readers should not treat either estimate as a confirmed market capitalization or post-issue equity value: those measures are not interchangeable, and the reports do not provide a final offer valuation.
What reports say the offering may include
The proposed listing is for Jio Platforms, Reliance Industries’ digital and telecommunications arm. Bloomberg reporting carried by Business Standard in September said a June draft prospectus covered up to 270 million new shares—about 2.9% of post-issue equity, by Bloomberg’s calculation—and that some proceeds were planned for debt repayment. The Times of India reported that SEBI issued observations on the draft papers on Aug. 28.

The Economic Times reported on Oct. 10 that the proposed IPO was entirely a fresh issue, with no offer-for-sale component, and that some existing investors were reportedly seeking to increase their exposure. A fresh issue means the company issues new shares; an offer for sale would involve existing shareholders selling shares in the offering. These descriptions concern reported plans and draft terms. The definitive prospectus, when available, is the document to check for final details.

Reported price band and proceeds are still estimates
A separate Economic Times report on Oct. 9 cited an expected price band of ₹1,065 to ₹1,119 per share and projected gross proceeds of ₹28,755 crore to ₹30,213 crore. Those proceeds were calculated using the maximum draft share count. The report said the final issue size depended on the red herring prospectus, so the band and proceeds should not be presented as confirmed offer terms.

When the IPO was expected to open
As of the reporting available by Oct. 13, The Economic Times had reported a planned public subscription window of Oct. 21–23 and an expected listing on Oct. 28. It cautioned that the price range, valuation and schedule could change. Those dates were forward-looking plans at that point, not completed events or guaranteed dates.

The Times of India reported Jio Platforms’ FY26 revenue of ₹146,885 crore and profit after tax of ₹30,053 crore. Those company results help explain why the proposed listing attracted attention, but they do not confirm the reported bid claim or settle what investors will pay. Any eventual valuation and subscription figures depend on the final offer documents and the IPO process.
