Jio Platforms’ fresh issue is scheduled to open on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at a price band of ₹1,065–₹1,119 per share, and close on Friday, October 23. At the upper price, the issue could raise ₹30,213 crore, which would make it India’s largest IPO by proceeds if the reported terms and full issue size are completed.

Jio IPO terms at a glance

Item Reported detail
Issue type Fresh issue of up to 27 crore (270 million) equity shares
Face value ₹10 per share
Price band ₹1,065–₹1,119 per share
Issue size at lower band About ₹28,755 crore
Issue size at upper band About ₹30,213 crore
Anchor bidding Monday, October 19, 2026
Public bidding Wednesday, October 21, through Friday, October 23, 2026
Retail minimum application Reported at ₹12,780 at the lower band and ₹13,428 at the upper band

Because the reported retail minimums equal 12 shares multiplied by each end of the price band, the minimum retail lot implied by those figures is 12 shares. Investors should confirm the final lot size and category rules in the filed Red Herring Prospectus (RHP) before applying.

Why this could be India’s biggest IPO

At ₹30,213 crore, the upper-end issue would exceed Hyundai Motor India’s ₹27,858.75 crore IPO in 2024. On the reported terms, that would establish a new Indian record by proceeds. The comparison is about money raised, not necessarily market capitalisation, first-day performance or long-term returns.

The offer is described as a fresh issue rather than an offer for sale. That means the shares issued in the public offer would bring new capital into Jio Platforms instead of allowing existing holders to sell shares through the issue. The final number of shares, price and proceeds remain subject to the terms in the RHP and the completed book-building process.

When the Jio IPO opens and what happens first

  1. October 19: Anchor investors are scheduled to bid.
  2. October 21: Public bidding is scheduled to open.
  3. October 23: Public bidding is scheduled to close.

The reported terms do not provide a confirmed allotment date, refund or unblock date, or stock-exchange listing date. Those milestones should be taken from the final exchange notices and the RHP rather than assumed from the bidding calendar. Dates, allocation and listing results can change if filings or market conditions change.

Where Jio says the IPO money will go

Up to ₹27,500 crore of the proceeds is earmarked for repayment of borrowings. Akash Ambani said the objective is to move Jio Platforms toward a net-debt-free position. Debt reduction is therefore the stated primary use of the issue proceeds.

The reported terms do not establish a complete, itemised allocation for every rupee beyond that borrowing repayment amount. Investors should distinguish the debt-repayment plan from future growth investment: the cited management statement focuses on strengthening the balance sheet, while the RHP is the authoritative document for any additional uses, conditions or changes.

Valuation and reported earnings

Business Standard reported an implied valuation of about ₹10.3 trillion at the upper price band. The same coverage reported FY2026 revenue of ₹1.47 trillion and profit after tax of about ₹30,000 crore. Dividing the reported valuation by that reported profit gives an approximate 34-times price-to-earnings figure, but this is a simple calculation, not a substitute for the peer-comparison methodology and accounting definitions in the RHP.

Investors comparing Jio with listed telecom companies should check whether the comparison uses the same fiscal period, consolidated or standalone figures, adjusted earnings and share count. A headline valuation multiple can move with the final issue price, post-issue shares and market price after listing.

Retail, employee and Reliance shareholder reservations

Eligible employees are reported to receive a ₹54-per-share discount. The employee reservation is reported at up to ₹500 crore. Eligible shareholders of Reliance Industries have a separate reservation reported at up to ₹2,500 crore.

These reservations are category-specific and do not guarantee an allotment. An applicant must meet the relevant eligibility and documentary requirements, and the final RHP and application forms govern how the discount, reservation limits and oversubscription are handled. A retail applicant should not assume that an employee or shareholder benefit can be combined with another category.

What Akash Ambani said about Jio’s technology strategy

In remarks reported around the October 15 media briefing, Akash Ambani said: “Jio’s technology and innovation strategy is centred on delivering greater value to customers rather than developing new solutions simply for the sake of innovation.”

India Today reported that he described a deliberate shift toward in-house technology, Indian talent and an end-to-end technology stack. The message positions technology investment around customer value and internal capability rather than innovation as an end in itself. It does not, by itself, provide a forecast for revenue, margins, subscriber growth or post-listing returns.

What applicants should verify before submitting an application

  • Use the final RHP to confirm the price band, lot size, category limits and timetable.
  • Check that the application amount matches the selected price and the required 12-share minimum implied by current reports.
  • If applying as an employee or eligible Reliance Industries shareholder, verify the separate eligibility rules and ₹54 discount treatment.
  • Read the borrowing-repayment description and risk factors rather than treating the issue as a pure growth-funding offer.
  • Do not rely on the ₹30,213 crore figure as a guaranteed amount: it assumes the upper price and reported maximum issue size.

What remains uncertain

The reported terms are current as of October 16, 2026. Final allocation, the eventual listing date, the first traded price and the valuation investors assign after listing are not established by the bidding schedule. Market conditions can also affect demand, allotment and post-listing performance. The RHP and exchange filings should take precedence over media summaries if any detail changes.
