JIAOHUN is an upcoming cinematic, first-person psychological horror game from 12AM BLACKOUT. Its story unfolds in Fairy Town, a small Chinese town in the 1990s, on December 31, 1999, as a returning wanderer investigates the town’s collapse, a scattered spirit and a supernatural evil. A new trailer shown during IGN Fan Fest: Fall Edition 2026 teases secrets, demons, a nameless god, abandoned buildings and pagers. The game is planned for release on PC through Steam and PlayStation 5 in 2027.
What is JIAOHUN?
JIAOHUN is described on its official Steam listing as “a cinematic first-person psychological horror game.” It is a single-player experience with captions, full controller support and a developer recommendation to play with a controller. The format places the player directly inside Fairy Town rather than presenting events from a third-person camera.
The game’s official store descriptions emphasize investigation, atmosphere and psychological unease. They do not establish a combat system, multiplayer mode or a specific balance between stealth, exploration and action, so those details remain unconfirmed.

Where and when does the story take place?
Fairy Town on New Year’s Eve 1999
The Steam description begins: “Today is Dec 31, 1999. Happy New Year. And now, a message from Fairy Town’s end…” Fairy Town is located in Baishoi County, and the PlayStation description characterizes it as a small Chinese town during the 1990s.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That fixed date gives the setting a specific historical frame. The player is not simply exploring a generic abandoned settlement; the narrative is tied to the final day of 1999 and to the town’s downfall. The available descriptions do not say whether the game will move to other dates or locations.
What is the story about?
A wanderer searching for a lost soul
PlayStation’s listing identifies the protagonist as “a returning wanderer who has lost his soul.” He follows a scattered spirit while trying to uncover the mystery behind Fairy Town’s downfall. Steam presents a related goal: unravel the town’s stories, strip away its lies and confront the evil haunting the player from within.

That wording points to a story-led investigation in which personal identity and the town’s history are connected. The protagonist’s missing soul, the scattered spirit and the town’s destruction are confirmed elements of the premise, but the listings do not yet explain how they fit together or whether the player can make choices that alter the outcome.

Secrets and abandoned buildings
The trailer’s abandoned locations reinforce the investigation premise: Fairy Town’s physical decay appears to be part of the mystery rather than mere background scenery. Official Steam copy asks players to “unravel Fairy Town’s stories, strip away the lies, and face the unsettling truth,” suggesting that environmental clues and hidden accounts will matter.
Demons and the nameless god
Steam describes a nameless god opening “the eye in its palm,” while the announcement uses the theme line “Obsession Breeds Demons.” These are revealed supernatural motifs, not a complete explanation of the game’s mythology. The published material does not identify the god, define the demons’ origin or explain whether they are literal entities, psychological manifestations or both.

What are the pagers for?
Pagers appear among the trailer’s highlighted images, but the official store pages do not describe a pager mechanic. They could serve as period communication devices, narrative clues or a way to deliver messages, yet none of those functions has been confirmed. It is safest to treat the pagers as an unresolved story detail rather than evidence of a specific gameplay system.

Why the trailer matters
JIAOHUN’s distinguishing combination is its first-person presentation, a specifically Chinese 1990s setting and a supernatural mystery anchored to one date: December 31, 1999. The trailer adds visual questions rather than resolving them. The nameless god, the eye in its palm, the town’s abandoned buildings and the pagers all broaden the mystery while the official premise keeps the focus on a returning wanderer confronting an evil that “haunts you from within.”
For now, JIAOHUN is best understood as a single-player, story-focused psychological horror game in development, not as a fully documented survival-horror system with confirmed combat or a published launch schedule. More precise information will depend on future announcements from 12AM BLACKOUT and the platform stores.
