For a current scooter with classic Italian styling, the 2026 Vespa Primavera and Sprint S are the clearest options in the available product information. Piaggio says both gain 12-inch rims, digital LCD dashboards and, on versions above 50 cc, keyless operation. The right choice still depends on your local model lineup, licensing rules, braking specification and practical needs—not styling alone.
What makes the 2026 Primavera and Sprint S worth considering?
Piaggio Group’s March 17, 2026 announcement describes updated Primavera and Sprint S models with recognizable Vespa design and new equipment. The company lists an all-steel body, 12-inch rims and a digital LCD dashboard; keyless operation is specified for versions above 50 cc. These are manufacturer descriptions, not independent performance findings, and equipment can vary by market. Read Piaggio Group’s announcement.
The manufacturer positions the Primavera as the more classic, metropolitan choice and the Sprint S as sportier. Those labels describe brand positioning rather than measured differences in handling or speed. Both models have accessory options including a top box, windscreen and front and rear racks, but fitment should be confirmed for the exact scooter year and version.

Which engine or powertrain is available?
Availability depends on the country. Piaggio’s 2026 announcement lists petrol versions in 50, 125 and 150 cc displacements, as well as electric versions. It says the electric moped versions have removable batteries. That announced range should not be treated as a list of models sold in every market.

Vespa Store USA, by contrast, says US buyers can choose 50, 150 or 310 cc scooters and that it does not sell 125 cc models in the United States. The 310 cc option is part of the wider US range, not a displacement identified in the cited announcement’s Primavera and Sprint S small-body lineup. Check the exact model and powertrain offered locally before comparing.

Braking equipment differs by model, configuration and market, so check the specification for the exact year rather than assuming every Primavera or Sprint S has the same setup. Piaggio’s 2026 release says the 125 and 150 cc small-body versions add a rear disc brake alongside a front disc and ABS. The release states: “For the first time on the 125 and 150 “small body” Vespas, the classic rear drum brake has been replaced by a 220 mm steel disc, operated by a dual-piston calliper.” That specification is in Piaggio’s March 17, 2026 release.

What license do you need in the United States?
Vespa Store USA says a motorcycle license is always necessary for scooters of 150 cc or higher. Its FAQ says treatment of 50 cc scooters depends on state and identifies states where a valid car license may be sufficient. State rules can change and may depend on how a vehicle is classified, so verify the current requirement with your state motor-vehicle authority before buying or riding. See Vespa Store USA’s licensing FAQ.

How do Italian style and manufacturing origin differ?
“Italian style” describes a design association; it does not establish where a particular scooter was manufactured. Vespa’s heritage and styling may appeal to riders looking for a classic-looking scooter, but check the manufacturer’s information for the origin of a specific model if that matters to your decision.

Lambretta’s catalogue traces its history to Innocenti’s post-war scooter production and describes its 1947 launch as a response to Italy’s transport needs and high gasoline prices. That historical background explains another Italian scooter marque, but it does not establish current Lambretta availability or provide a current, like-for-like alternative to the 2026 Vespa models.
Quick Recap
How to choose a scooter that fits your everyday use
- Confirm local versions first. Check the exact displacement, powertrain and year offered where you live; the announced international range and US store lineup are not identical.
- Check licensing and riding conditions. Verify the legal category with your local authority, then consider whether your regular routes involve city streets, faster roads, hills or carrying a passenger.
- Compare the exact safety specification. Ask for the local model’s brake and ABS details rather than relying on a specification from another region.
- Think through everyday fit. Consider seat comfort, passenger needs, parking and, for an electric model, access to charging and a practical battery routine.
- Confirm accessory fitment. Ask whether a top box, rack or windscreen fits your precise model year and configuration; an accessory appearing in a manufacturer’s range does not mean it fits every version.
- Check ownership support and full cost. Compare nearby dealer access, warranty terms, parts availability, taxes and fees. The cited sources do not provide a neutral total-cost comparison.
