It Takes Two is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on October 15, 2026, in most regions. Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea get the game on October 16. Eligible owners of the Nintendo Switch version can upgrade for free, while the Switch 2 edition adds publisher-described improvements to resolution, frame rates, and visual effects.
When does It Takes Two release on Nintendo Switch 2?
Electronic Arts announced a release date of October 15, 2026, for most regions. The date is October 16 in Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea because of time-zone differences. EA’s announcement lists a standard price of $39.99, but its price line does not specify a currency or establish a universal price for every region.

EA announced the Switch 2 release during a Nintendo Direct. The announcement confirms the release but does not establish that the accompanying trailer was a “debut” trailer.
Can Switch owners upgrade for free?
Yes, if they meet EA’s conditions. You must own It Takes Two for Nintendo Switch on the same Nintendo Account you use to redeem the offer. EA says the free upgrade is unavailable in Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Internet access, a Nintendo Account, and Nintendo eShop access are required; offers may vary or change. - On Nintendo Switch 2, sign in with the Nintendo Account that owns the Switch version.
- Open the Nintendo eShop, or access the offer from the game’s offer screen.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to redeem the upgrade.
EA Help’s search result describes the Switch 2 edition as available physically or digitally, but that support page could not be opened. A physical copy should not be assumed to qualify automatically: EA’s stated redemption condition is ownership on the Nintendo Account used for the offer.
What changes in the Switch 2 version?
EA says the new edition has higher resolution, improved frame rates, and richer visual effects. In its game article, EA specifies 1080p and 60 frames per second in docked mode, plus higher-resolution textures, improved lighting, upgraded visual effects, and shorter loading times. Those are publisher specifications, not independently measured results.

Friend’s Pass
Friend’s Pass lets an invited player join without buying the full game. The invited player needs to install the free Friend’s Pass trial and use an applicable platform account; one player in the pair must own the full game. Online play requires a friend on a supported platform. EA’s feature details describe the requirements.

Cross-play
For the Switch 2 release, EA lists cross-play with Nintendo Switch 2, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. This platform list applies to the Switch 2 release; it should not be read as confirmation of equivalent cross-play support for the original Switch version.
GameShare
EA separately says GameShare can connect a Switch 2 player with Nintendo Switch players. This is distinct from the listed cross-play platform support.

What did the developers say?
In EA’s announcement, “Team Hazelight” said: “We are very happy to finally bring It Takes Two to even more players on Nintendo Switch 2. Everyone who owns the game on Nintendo Switch can upgrade for free! Our partners at Turn Me Up Games have done a great job optimizing the game.” EA attributes the comment to the team, not to a named individual.
