Short answer: Zoroark is usually not a priority PvP investment. Current ranking snapshots place it well outside the leading choices in both Great League and Ultra League, and its high attack comes with fragile defenses. It can still earn a place on a themed, surprise-oriented, or personally preferred team, but you should build it only after checking the exact specimen, move availability, and role your roster needs.
The resource decision is also more complicated than one number. PvPoke lists 75,000 Stardust to unlock Zoroark’s second charged move, while the Stardust and Candy needed to power up a particular Zoroark depend on its current level, target CP, and whether Candy XL is required. That 75,000 figure is therefore an entry cost, not a complete Great League or Ultra League budget.
What the current rankings actually say
Two current guide snapshots describe Zoroark as a niche pick rather than a general-purpose battler. Pokémon GO Hub’s database lists it at rank 660 of 1,143 eligible Pokémon in Great League and rank 555 of 841 eligible Pokémon in Ultra League. Those are positions in a changing ranking list, not percentages, win guarantees, or a prediction that every Zoroark will perform identically.
| League | Guide snapshot | Example build | Move information |
|---|---|---|---|
| Great League | Rank 660 of 1,143 eligible Pokémon | 1/15/15 IVs, level 21.5, 1,496 CP | Foul Play and Sludge Bomb recommended by Pokémon GO Hub |
| Ultra League | Rank 555 of 841 eligible Pokémon | 1/15/15 IVs, level 42, 2,497 CP; displayed example uses no Candy XL | PvPoke lists Foul Play, Night Shade, Flamethrower, and Sludge Bomb as charged options |
PvPoke cautions that its rankings are estimates and can change when simulator algorithms or game data change. Treat the figures above as a dated snapshot, not a permanent placement. Before spending resources, open a current league simulator and check the moves and ranking for the exact Zoroark you intend to use.

Why Zoroark is a high-risk investment
Zoroark’s defining trade-off is offensive pressure versus durability. PvPoke’s displayed Ultra League example has 202.6 Attack, 113.2 Defense, and 134 Stamina. PvPoke characterizes that profile as a “Glass Cannon,” while Pokémon GO Hub’s October 9 analysis also identifies its bulk as a major problem.
In practical terms, Zoroark can threaten shields when it reaches charged moves, but it has less room for mistakes than a sturdier generalist. A switch taken at the wrong time, a missed bait, or a fast-move mismatch can remove it before its attack advantage matters. That does not make the Pokémon unusable; it makes team construction, alignment, and energy management more important than they are for a bulky safe switch.
PvPoke’s homepage analysis says that receiving Sucker Punch for Community Day alone would not solve Zoroark’s “glassy stats.” That is the simulator publisher’s editorial assessment, not an official statement from Niantic, and it captures the central limitation: a new move can improve pressure without changing the underlying defensive profile.

Great League: when a build can make sense
The Great League example uses a 1/15/15 specimen at level 21.5 and 1,496 CP. Those IVs are an example of the stat distribution commonly favored by capped leagues, where lower Attack and higher Defense and Stamina can allow a Pokémon to reach a higher level before hitting the CP ceiling. They are not a universal requirement. A different IV spread may fit your available species, breakpoints, or team plan better.
Pokémon GO Hub recommends Foul Play with Sludge Bomb for this league. That combination gives Zoroark a reliable damaging option and a second charged attack with different coverage, but the ranking snapshot remains low. Build it in Great League when you specifically want Zoroark’s offensive identity, already have the rest of your core covered, or are playing a format in which its unusual typing and moves create a useful surprise. Do not build it solely because the specimen has a high appraisal or because a ranking page displays a favorable individual matchup.
Ultra League: more room for levels, not a durability fix
The current PvPoke example reaches 2,497 CP at level 42 with 1/15/15 IVs and no Candy XL. That example shows that an Ultra League Zoroark can fit under the 2,500 CP limit without XL in the displayed configuration; it does not establish that every specimen will avoid XL or that powering one to the cap costs the same amount.

PvPoke lists Foul Play, Night Shade, Flamethrower, and Sludge Bomb among the charged-move options on its Ultra League page. The best pair depends on the season’s teams and the coverage your squad lacks. Because Ultra League opponents often bring fully powered, highly optimized Pokémon, Zoroark’s low bulk can be punished quickly. Its higher level and attack pressure may still appeal to a player who is comfortable playing aggressively, preserving shields, and using alignment to keep it away from unfavorable fast-move damage.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The Ultra League rank of 555 out of 841 eligible Pokémon indicates that Zoroark is not a default ladder choice in the cited snapshot. It can be a deliberate specialist, but the burden is on the team builder to demonstrate what matchup or role it adds that a sturdier option cannot.
Moves and the Sucker Punch question
Move availability is especially important because the Community Day window has already passed. Niantic’s October 2026 Community Day announcement stated that evolving Zorua during the event on October 10, 2026, or within four hours afterward, granted a Zoroark with Sucker Punch. That event and its evolution window are over as of October 16, 2026.

The retrieved sources do not establish a current ordinary-TM method for teaching Sucker Punch. PvPoke’s live Ultra League page lists Shadow Claw and Snarl as additional fast-move options and identifies Sucker Punch as event- or Elite-TM-exclusive on that page, but move availability can change. Check the move list shown in Pokémon GO for your account before evolving or spending an Elite TM; do not assume that a regular Fast TM will provide Sucker Punch.

How much Stardust and Candy does Zoroark need?
The known Stardust figure
PvPoke lists 75,000 Stardust to unlock Zoroark’s second charged move. This is a specific move-unlock price. It is not the total cost of evolving, powering up, or adding a move to every Zoroark.

Why the power-up total varies
Power-up cost depends on the specimen’s current level, the CP you are targeting, and the league. A Zoroark caught at a low level needs many more power-ups than one caught near the desired level. The species’ individual IVs also affect the level required to reach a league’s CP cap. The displayed Ultra League example reaches 2,497 CP without Candy XL, but that does not provide a universal cost for other specimens.

To calculate your real budget, select the exact Zoroark in the game or a current battle calculator, note its present level and CP, choose the Great League or Ultra League target, and record every Stardust, regular Candy, and Candy XL requirement. Add the 75,000 Stardust charged-move unlock only if you intend to run two charged moves.
What is known about Candy
Niantic’s general evolution help explains that catching Pokémon generates Candy for that species and that some evolutions require an item as well as Candy. The retrieved material does not state Zorua’s current evolution-Candy requirement, so consult the evolution button in Pokémon GO rather than relying on an uncited number. The same caution applies to any Candy XL total: it depends on the specimen and target level.
Event bonuses were temporary
The October Community Day offered double catch Candy and a doubled chance for Trainers at level 31 or above to receive Candy XL from catches. Those bonuses ended with the October 10 event and are not a standing reduction in Zoroark’s build cost. Candy earned during the event remains in your account, but a new player should not budget as if the bonuses are still active.
A step-by-step decision before you spend resources
- Choose the league and format. Decide whether you are building for Great League, Ultra League, or a restricted cup. Open-league rankings do not automatically apply to a themed or limited format.
- Inspect the specimen. Record its IVs, current CP, level, appraisal, and whether it already knows a legacy or event move. Compare it with the league-appropriate examples rather than assuming a 15/15/15 specimen is best.
- Check current moves. Confirm the available fast and charged moves in Pokémon GO and in a live simulator. Pay special attention to Sucker Punch because the Community Day evolution window has passed.
- Define the team job. Write down the matchup, coverage type, or pressure pattern Zoroark is meant to provide. If you cannot name a job that your existing roster lacks, delay the investment.
- Price the complete build. Calculate evolution requirements, every power-up, any Candy XL, and the 75,000 Stardust second-move unlock. Use the actual starting specimen, not a generic species estimate.
- Test before powering up where possible. Run the current moves and IVs through a league simulator and compare the results with alternatives you already own. Treat simulations as estimates; they do not guarantee a particular set of opponents or battle record.
- Build in stages. If the first charged move and current level are enough to test the concept in a practice or limited setting, postpone the second move and final power-ups until the role proves useful.
Situations where Zoroark is worth building
- You enjoy using Zoroark and accept that it is a specialist rather than an efficient resource choice.
- Your team deliberately needs fast offensive pressure and can protect a fragile attacker with shields, alignment, or a sturdier partner.
- You have a league-legal specimen whose CP and IV spread fit the target without an unexpectedly large XL bill.
- You already have the Stardust for the second charged move and enough reserve resources to maintain the rest of the team.
- You are preparing for a cup or custom format in which its available moves and typing address a specific local matchup.
When saving your resources is the better choice
- You need one dependable open-league investment and do not yet have a complete core.
- The only specimen available requires a large number of power-ups or Candy XL, while a stronger option is already close to the CP cap.
- You cannot obtain or confirm the move combination your strategy requires.
- Your team already has several fragile attackers and lacks a safe switch or durable closer.
- You are choosing solely from the ranking number and have not checked the current season, cup rules, or simulator assumptions.
Practical build checklist
- Target league selected: Great League, Ultra League, or a restricted cup.
- Exact specimen’s IVs, CP, and level recorded.
- Current fast and charged move availability verified in-game.
- Sucker Punch status confirmed; no assumption that a regular TM can teach it.
- Evolution Candy and any required item checked in Pokémon GO.
- Power-up Stardust, regular Candy, and Candy XL calculated for that specimen.
- Second charged move budgeted separately at 75,000 Stardust.
- Team role and replacement options tested in a current simulator.
Bottom line
Zoroark is worth building only as an intentional, high-pressure specialist. The cited snapshots place it low in both open leagues, and its attack-focused profile comes with fragile defenses. If you want to use it, choose a league-appropriate specimen, verify the live moves, and calculate the complete specimen-specific cost. Treat 75,000 Stardust as the second-move unlock alone, not as the price of a finished Pokémon. For players seeking the most efficient first investment, Zoroark should generally wait until core, sturdier options are covered.
