It depends on which Galaxy A23 you have. The Samsung specifications reviewed for the Galaxy A23 LTE (SM-A235F) and the US Galaxy A23 5G do not state a water-resistance rating, so do not treat those models as water resistant. Some Japanese carrier versions of the Galaxy A23 5G are listed with IPX5/IPX8 ratings. That protection is specific to those variants, not the A23 family as a whole.
Which Galaxy A23 models have a water-resistance rating?
“Galaxy A23” refers to different models sold in different markets. The rating shown for one variant should not be applied to another. In the official specifications reviewed, the Japanese carrier models SC-56C and SCG18 list water and dust ratings, while the LTE and US 5G specifications reviewed do not state a water-resistance rating.

Samsung advises checking the manual when a device is not listed in its support information, because protection can vary by model and region. How to check your A23’s exact model
- Open Settings and look for the model name or model number in the phone’s device information.
- Compare the model code—not just “Galaxy A23”—with the manual or official specifications for your market or carrier.
- If the exact manual does not state a water-resistance rating, treat the phone as unrated and keep it dry.
What IPX5 and IPX8 mean for rated A23 models
An IP rating describes performance under defined test conditions; it is not a general guarantee against water damage. Samsung describes IPX8 testing as immersion in still fresh water at 1.5 metres for 30 minutes. KDDI’s SCG18 specification also describes IPX5 testing with a defined fresh-water spray and IPX8 static immersion at 1.5 metres for approximately 30 minutes. These controlled tests do not mean a phone can safely withstand every kind of water exposure or pressure.

The “X” in IPX5/IPX8 means the rating shown does not specify a dust-protection level. The Japanese carrier A23 pages list IP6X separately for dust resistance; that is a distinct test classification, not a water rating.
Can you use a Galaxy A23 in the rain?
If your exact A23 model has no published water-resistance rating, the safe choice is to keep it out of rain and away from splashes. For a rated Japanese carrier model, the IP rating indicates performance in specific tests, not unrestricted use in rain or other wet conditions. Water resistance can weaken through wear and tear, and Samsung cautions against high-pressure water, contaminated liquids, impacts, and improper handling.

What to do if your Galaxy A23 gets wet
If your model is not rated
- Do not turn the phone on while moisture may remain inside.
- Remove the SIM card, SD card, and other removable items if possible.
- Dry the exterior with a clean towel, then arrange a prompt inspection at a Samsung service center.
If your model is rated
- Dry it thoroughly with a soft, clean cloth.
- Do not connect a charger or accessory until the external connection jack is completely dry.
- Follow the care instructions for your exact model if it was exposed to liquid.
For either model
Do not use a hair dryer, other external heat, compressed air, or cleaning chemicals to dry the phone. A microfiber electronics cloth can help dry the exterior, but it cannot prevent liquid from entering the phone or replace service inspection after a wetting incident.
