Probably not at the subscription level. Google’s May 19, 2026 announcement does not document a direct increase to the standard Google AI Pro list price. The major change is a new $100-per-month AI Ultra tier, a reduction of the highest Ultra tier from $250 to $200, and a switch from daily prompt counts to compute-based usage limits. Heavy users may therefore reach limits sooner or buy additional credits even when their Pro subscription fee has not changed.
What Google changed on May 19, 2026
Google introduced a second AI Ultra price point aimed at developers, technical leads, knowledge workers and advanced creators. The new tier costs $100 per month and provides a Gemini app and Google Antigravity usage limit rated at 5× the Pro allowance.
At the same time, Google reduced its existing top AI Ultra tier from $250 to $200 per month. That $200 tier keeps a 20× Pro usage limit. The result is not an across-the-board price increase: there is a new high-cost option, but the most expensive existing option became cheaper.

Current price points and what they represent
| Plan or reference | Monthly price | Usage position | Included benefits or context |
|---|---|---|---|

| Google AI Pro | The May 19, 2026 announcement does not document a direct list-price increase | Baseline for the published 5× and 20× comparisons | Selected-country users receive YouTube Premium Lite, subject to local eligibility |
| Google AI Ultra | $100 | 5× the Pro Gemini app and Antigravity limit | Announced May 19, 2026; includes YouTube Premium |

For historical context, the Associated Press reported that Google launched Gemini Advanced at $20 per month with 2 TB of storage in February 2024. That is a useful baseline for understanding the earlier premium offering, not a complete specification of the 2026 plan ladder. The 2026 announcement does not establish current storage amounts for every tier.
Why your Gemini bill or access can still feel more expensive
Usage is now based on compute, not just messages
Google says it is moving from daily prompt limits to a “compute-used” model. The allowance considers prompt complexity, features used and chat length. A short question and a long coding session therefore do not necessarily consume the same share of capacity.
Rank #2
- Google Pixel 10a is a durable, everyday phone with more[1]; snap brilliant photography on a simple, powerful camera, get 30+ hours out of a full charge[2], and do more with helpful AI like Gemini[3]
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan; it works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers
- Pixel 10a is sleek and durable, with a super smooth finish, scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 7i display, and IP68 water and dust protection[4]
- The Actua display with 3,000-nit peak brightness shows up clear as day, even in direct sunlight[5]
- Plan, create, and get more done with help from Gemini, your built-in AI assistant[3]; have it screen spam calls while you focus[6]; chat with Gemini to brainstorm your meal plan[7], or bring your ideas to life with Nano Banana[8]
The limit refreshes every five hours until a weekly limit is reached. Once a cap is reached, Google may move the account to smaller models. That can feel like a downgrade even though the subscription price has not changed.

Complex workloads consume capacity faster
- Long conversations can use more allowance than short, isolated prompts.
- Video and other feature-heavy tasks can consume more compute than ordinary text requests.
- Coding and technical prompts may be more demanding because they often involve larger context windows, files or repeated tool use.
- Frequent model switching or advanced features can reduce the time before a limit is reached.
These are usage effects, not evidence that Google has raised the Pro list price. They do explain why a Pro user could experience fewer high-capability responses during a billing period.

- Google Pixel 10 Pro is the ultimate Pixel experience, featuring advanced AI with Gemini, unbelievable camera quality, impeccable design in two sizes, and the next-gen Google Tensor G5 chip[1]

- Get a head start on syncing your data before it even arrives: After you purchase your new Pixel, look for an email that explains how to transfer your photos, videos, passwords, and more in just a few quick steps[11]
- Pixel’s pro camera system makes everything look amazing, even in low light; capture more of the scene with advanced Google AI models, and bring out incredible details with 100x Pro Res Zoom, stunning 50 MP images, and super steady videos in 8K[10]
- Pixel 10 Pro is built with durable aluminum and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for scratch and drop resistance; the 6.3-inch Super Actua display with 3,300-nit peak brightness is easy on the eyes, even in direct sunlight[3,13,18]
Optional credits can create additional charges
After an account reaches a cap, AI Pro and Ultra users may buy pay-as-you-go credits for Antigravity and Flow, with support for the Gemini app planned eventually. Buying those credits is an optional way to continue using covered services; it is separate from the recurring subscription fee. Check the purchase screen and account settings before confirming any top-up.
What you get for roughly $20 versus $100 or $200
The most important difference is effective capacity. Google describes the $100 Ultra allowance as five times Pro’s Gemini app and Antigravity limit, while the $200 Ultra allowance is twenty times Pro’s. Those are usage-limit ratios, not a promise that every model, feature or response will be exactly five or twenty times faster.
Ultra also bundles YouTube Premium. Pro users in selected countries receive YouTube Premium Lite instead, and both the benefit and eligibility depend on location. If you already pay separately for a qualifying YouTube benefit, include that avoided cost when evaluating Ultra; if you do not use YouTube, the bundle has less practical value.
AI Plus, launched at $7.99 per month in the United States, provides a lower-priced entry point. The published material does not establish a direct conversion between AI Plus limits and Pro or Ultra, so do not infer one from the price alone.

How to decide whether an Ultra upgrade is justified
Stay on Pro when your use is light or intermittent
- You mainly ask short text questions.
- You rarely use video, coding or other compute-intensive features.
- You do not regularly hit the five-hour refresh or weekly cap.
- You would not use the bundled YouTube benefit.
Consider the $100 Ultra tier for sustained professional use
- You need about five times the Pro allowance for Gemini and Antigravity.
- You are a developer, technical lead, knowledge worker or advanced creator with recurring heavy sessions.
- You prefer a larger allowance but do not need the maximum 20× tier.
Consider the $200 Ultra tier only for very heavy workloads
- Your work regularly exhausts the 5× tier.
- You need the published 20× Pro limit for Gemini and Antigravity.
- The YouTube Premium bundle and additional capacity justify the extra $100 each month in your country.
Use your actual pattern over at least one billing cycle: note when limits appear, which features trigger them and whether smaller-model fallback affects your work. A higher tier is most defensible when it prevents repeated interruptions, not simply because its multiplier is larger.
Steps to check whether your own cost changed
- Open your Google account’s subscription or Google One billing page and record the recurring amount, currency and renewal date.
- Compare that amount with the local AI Pro price shown on Google’s current plan page; do not substitute a U.S. price for another country.
- Review recent receipts for a plan change, tax adjustment or a separately purchased credit pack.
- In Gemini, note whether a warning refers to a five-hour refresh, a weekly cap, a model fallback or an optional credit purchase.
- If the recurring charge itself changed without a plan change, contact Google billing support before buying credits or upgrading.
Country and timing caveats
All figures in Google’s announcement are dated 2026 figures, and Google says prices vary by country. The $7.99 AI Plus amount is specifically a U.S. launch price. YouTube Premium and Premium Lite inclusions are also subject to local eligibility. Treat the amount and benefits displayed in your account as authoritative for your market.
In short, the headline “Gemini Pro cost is going up considerably” overstates what Google has documented. The significant change is a broader, more expensive Ultra ladder and compute-based limits that can make intensive use feel costlier. The standard Pro fee itself has not been shown to rise in the May 19, 2026 announcement.
