Sometimes—but only if you can cancel subscriptions you would otherwise keep. The X Subscription combines Grok, Cursor and X benefits, so its value depends on your real replaceable spending, coding-agent usage and whether you need third-party models such as Claude or GPT inside Cursor. It is not automatically a bargain just because X compares one tier with three standalone list prices.
What The X Subscription actually bundles
xAI announced The X Subscription on October 2, 2026. The service combines access to Grok, Grok Bot, Cursor and benefits attached to X. Every paid tier includes X Premium benefits on the connected X account. Existing customers do not have to switch: X says current plans, prices and features continue until a customer chooses to change or cancel.
The announcement listed four paid tiers and a free tier. These are the prices published in the announcement, not a permanent guarantee; availability, allowances and regional pricing can change, so inspect the live pricing page before subscribing.

The $90 comparison is xAI’s own framing. It assumes a person would otherwise buy SuperGrok, Cursor Pro and X Premium+ at their listed prices, and that the benefits are equivalent for that person. Most subscribers do not buy all three, so calculate your own cancellable total instead of adding every nominal standalone price.

xAI also states: Each X Subscription plan includes at least twice as much coding usage with our models as the comparable Cursor plan.
That is a vendor claim, not an independent benchmark. It describes the amount of coding usage with xAI’s models, not the quality of every model, the speed of every request or the capacity of third-party models.
How the coding allowance is shared
Grok and Cursor draw from one pool
X’s documentation says Grok and Cursor share a weekly included-usage pool. A week of intensive Grok conversations can therefore reduce the allowance available to Cursor, and heavy Cursor-agent work can leave less capacity for Grok. The pool is not two independent quotas that you can always add together.
- Estimate your normal weekly coding-agent use.
- Estimate your normal weekly Grok use, including Grok Bot activity.
- Leave headroom for peak weeks such as a release, migration or incident.
- Check the account’s displayed allowance and reset schedule rather than assuming the word “unlimited” or a plan name implies unlimited coding.
Because the allowance is shared, the bundle fits best when your Grok and Cursor usage vary or remain moderate. It is a weaker fit when you routinely consume most of one service’s allowance and still need the other at full capacity.

Third-party models are outside the included pool
X says third-party models used in Cursor, including Claude or GPT, are not included in the plan’s pool. If your workflow depends on those models, the bundle does not eliminate their separate cost or guarantee their availability. A plan that looks generous when measured only with xAI models can be insufficient for a project that routes most prompts to another provider.
Track model selection in your actual projects. An occasional fallback to a third-party model has a different financial effect from using it for every agent run, code review or test-generation task. Keep the separate subscription or usage charges in your calculation when that model is essential.

The right value calculation: replaceable spend
Use the amount you can genuinely remove, not the theoretical value of every feature. A simple monthly calculation is:
Net monthly cost = X tier price − subscriptions you will actually cancel − other recurring costs avoided.
Do not subtract a service merely because the bundle contains a similarly named feature. Subtract it only after confirming that the replacement covers the work, limits and account access you need.

Example: a genuine replacement
Suppose you currently pay for a coding plan, a Grok plan and X Premium, and you would cancel all three after confirming that Cursor, Grok and Premium benefits meet your needs. In that case, compare the X tier with the combined amount that actually leaves your budget. The announced $30 Premium price may be compelling, but the conclusion still depends on your usage and the limits shown at checkout.
Example: an apparent bargain that is not one
If you keep your coding plan because it supplies a third-party model you use every day, and you rarely use Grok or X Premium, the X tier is an additional subscription. The nominal $90 comparison does not apply because you are not replacing the three products in xAI’s example.

When the bundle is likely to be worth it
You can cancel two or more services
The strongest case is consolidation: you already pay for a coding tool, Grok and an X paid plan, and the included features satisfy the same jobs. Confirm renewal dates and cancellation terms first so you do not pay for overlapping months.

Shared usage is easier to manage when both services are part of your weekly routine and neither one consumes the entire pool. The convenience of one account and one subscription can also matter, provided your billing route supports the change.
Your work is compatible with xAI models
If your coding workflow primarily uses the models included by X, the announced “at least twice” usage comparison may give you more included volume than a comparable Cursor plan. Treat that as a capacity claim from xAI, not a promise of better coding results.
You value the connected X benefits
Paid tiers include X Premium benefits on the connected account. Value them only if you would otherwise pay for Premium features or use them often enough to matter. Occasional use should be treated as a bonus, not as a full subscription replacement.
When keeping your current setup is safer
Your existing coding plan already covers your needs
Switching for a lower headline price can create friction without saving money if your present allowance, model access and integrations are sufficient. A bundle is not an upgrade merely because it contains more services.

You depend on third-party models in Cursor
Since X excludes Claude, GPT and other third-party models from the included pool, you may need to retain a separate provider. Add that continuing cost before comparing plans.
You do not use Grok or X
If coding is your only requirement, paying for social and assistant features may be unnecessary. Compare a coding-focused plan on its own terms rather than assigning value to benefits you will not use.
You need predictable, separate quotas
The shared weekly pool introduces a trade-off: a spike in Grok use can affect Cursor capacity. Teams or individuals who need isolated budgets may prefer separate subscriptions even when the combined sticker price is higher.

Check the account and billing route first
- Sign in to the X account that you want connected to the subscription.
- Open the account-unification or subscription-management path for existing Cursor, Grok and X customers.
- Record each service’s current plan, renewal date, price and billing provider.
- Review the displayed replacement plan, included models, usage pool and reset cadence.
- Confirm which existing benefits will transfer and which subscriptions will continue separately.
X’s materials describe different handling for subscriptions purchased through app stores. In particular, the pricing documentation says an Apple App Store Cursor subscription is not canceled or refunded merely by switching through X. Do not assume that selecting a bundle stops an App Store charge; manage that subscription through the store’s own cancellation controls and verify the renewal status.
Keep a record before confirming
- Screenshot the checkout summary, displayed limits and renewal date.
- Save receipts for the old and new plans.
- Check the account after the switch to ensure Premium benefits appear on the intended connected X account.
- Set a calendar reminder before the first renewal so you can compare actual usage with the allowance.
Switching is optional. X says existing plans, prices and features remain in place unless you choose to change or cancel, so there is no need to migrate before you have completed this comparison.

A practical 30-day decision method
Before subscribing
- Export or write down the last month of coding-tool usage, including model choices and peak days.
- Separate xAI-model requests from third-party requests in Cursor.
- List every subscription you would cancel and the exact monthly amount that would disappear.
- Check whether any plan is billed annually, through an app store or under a promotional term.
- Compare the result with the current listed X price for your region and account.
During the first billing period
- Use the same repositories and coding tasks you normally handle; do not judge the plan from a single easy prompt.
- Watch the shared Grok/Cursor allowance through a full weekly reset.
- Note any task that forces you to use a third-party model or a separate service.
- Record whether X Premium and Grok features are used enough to justify their share of the cost.
At renewal
Compare the invoice and your usage log. Keep the bundle if it replaced the intended subscriptions without causing costly third-party usage, allowance shortfalls or workflow compromises. Otherwise, cancel or change the tier before renewal, following the billing channel that charged you.
How Claude Code fits into the calculation
Anthropic’s official Claude Code page describes Claude Code as included with its Pro plan and lists monthly and annual options. Those terms are set by Anthropic and can change, so check the current offer if Claude Code is part of your setup. Claude Code is not interchangeable with Cursor or with The X Subscription: compare the tasks, model access, limits and integrations you actually use.
If Claude Code is your primary agent, The X Subscription may be complementary rather than a replacement. Count it as a savings only if you are willing and able to stop paying for the existing service.

- What is the current price and availability for your country and account?
- What is the weekly shared allowance, and when does it reset?
- Which xAI models are included in your tier?
- How will Claude, GPT or other third-party model requests be billed?
- Will an App Store subscription continue charging after you switch?
- Which existing plans will you cancel, and on what date?
- Are Premium benefits attached to the X account you actually use?
Bottom line
The X Subscription is most defensible for an existing AI coding-tool subscriber who can replace multiple paid services and will use Grok and X Premium benefits. It is less attractive when a current coding plan already works, third-party Cursor models are essential, or the bundle’s non-coding features would sit unused. Make the decision from cancellable monthly spend and observed usage across a full weekly cycle—not from xAI’s $90 comparison or its unverified-for-you usage claim.
