Xbox is not running a universal, no-purchase giveaway that deposits store credit into every account. The official offer available to eligible users is Microsoft Rewards: a free loyalty program that lets you earn points from qualifying Xbox activity, Microsoft Store purchases and Bing searches, then exchange those points for Xbox or Microsoft gift-card value. The rewards catalog and earning actions depend on your Microsoft account and country or region.
What “free Xbox store credit” means in practice
Microsoft Rewards is available at no charge with a Microsoft account. Microsoft says members can earn points for activities such as gaming on Xbox, shopping for eligible items in the Microsoft Store and searching on Bing. Those points are not cash, and completing an activity does not guarantee that every account will see the same task or reward.

Xbox currently displays 5,000 Rewards points for up to a $5 Xbox Gift Card. The catalog can also show custom redemptions worth up to $100, but the exact denominations, point costs and eligibility are determined by the signed-in account and its region. A headline claiming that everyone is receiving a gift card overstates what the official program establishes.

The 5,000-point figure is the specific amount Xbox is displaying in 2026 for up to $5. It should not be used to calculate the cost of every other denomination, because Microsoft can change the catalog and exchange rates by market or account.

How to claim the reward
- Sign in. Open the Microsoft Rewards dashboard using the Microsoft account linked to your Xbox profile.
- Check earning activities. Review the tasks currently listed for your account, including eligible Xbox play, Microsoft Store activity or Bing searches.
- Check the redemption catalog. Confirm the gift-card denomination, points cost and any local terms before selecting it.
- Redeem the points. Choose the Xbox or Microsoft gift card and complete the account verification or confirmation steps requested by Microsoft.
- Verify the balance. Microsoft says redeemed gift-card value is deposited directly into the Microsoft account balance. Check that balance before attempting a purchase.
- Spend it under the applicable terms. Use the balance in the Xbox or Microsoft Store for eligible purchases.
What you can buy with redeemed credit
Microsoft account balance can pay for eligible digital purchases such as games, apps and movies. Microsoft also lists physical goods and Xbox-related subscriptions among possible uses. The checkout screen remains the final authority: product availability, taxes, age restrictions, recurring-subscription rules and regional licensing can affect whether a particular item accepts the balance.
Gift-card balance versus promotional balance
Ordinary Microsoft and Xbox gift cards have no fees and do not expire, according to Microsoft. A promotional balance can have its own expiration date or other restrictions. Read the terms displayed with a targeted offer instead of assuming that every credit behaves like a standard gift card.

Why the offer may not appear for you
- Country or region: Microsoft warns that earning actions and redemption availability differ by market. Shopping on Xbox or searching on Bing may not earn points in every country or region.
- Account targeting: Some promotions are shown only to selected accounts, so another household member may see a different catalog.
- Different account sign-in: Rewards earned on one Microsoft account do not automatically move to another Xbox account.
- Changing catalog: Point prices, denominations and daily tasks can change without creating a universal offer.
- Promotion terms: A limited-time credit may expire separately from ordinary gift-card funds.
If the dashboard does not list a gift card, there is no reliable way to force the reward to appear. Confirm that you are signed in to the intended account, check the account’s country or region settings, and read the local eligibility notice. Do not treat social-media screenshots or a headline promising “everyone” as proof that your account qualifies.
What this means for the “giveaway” claim
The accurate description is a standing rewards program, not a blanket giveaway. You must complete eligible activities, accumulate the required points and redeem a reward that your account is allowed to receive. Separately advertised sweepstakes or targeted promotions should be judged by their own official terms; they are not evidence that every Xbox owner receives free store credit.

For a current answer, the signed-in Microsoft Rewards dashboard is more authoritative than a generic article because it shows the tasks, point prices, denominations and restrictions that apply to your account and location on that day.
