Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is worth buying if you want a dark Seattle vampire story with action combat, political intrigue and a clearly authored narrative. It is a less certain purchase if what you loved about the 2004 game was extensive character freedom, dense role-playing systems and an unusually open-ended structure. The safest choice for most people is the Standard Edition. Deluxe is mainly a cosmetic upgrade, while Premium only makes financial sense when its two story expansions are available on your platform and appeal to you.
The game launched on October 21, 2025, for Windows PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Paradox also states that the Windows version is compatible with Steam Deck. Prices, discounts and the release status of downloadable expansions can change, so treat the launch prices and roadmap dates below as historical reference rather than a current store quote.
What Bloodlines 2 is
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is an action role-playing game and sequel to Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines. It takes place in Seattle and follows Phyre, an elder vampire who awakens after a long period of torpor. Fabien, a Malkavian detective, becomes an important guide and complication in the story. Some sections let you play as Fabien in 1920s Seattle while investigating his murder, creating a second time period and perspective within the campaign.
At launch, Phyre can join one of six clans: Brujah, Tremere, Banu Haqim, Ventrue, Toreador and Lasombra. Paradox describes each clan as having its own playstyle, outfits and Disciplines. Your clan therefore affects how you approach encounters and how Phyre is presented, but the available evidence does not establish that every clan produces a radically different campaign or a fully separate storyline.
#1 Best Overall
The game is single-player only. There is no multiplayer or co-op mode, so the purchase decision is about the solo campaign, its combat and its role-playing choices rather than a shared online experience.
The real “worth buying?” question
The most useful way to judge Bloodlines 2 is to separate two expectations that are often treated as identical:
- An action-forward vampire mystery: You investigate Seattle’s supernatural politics, use vampiric abilities and fight through a focused narrative. Players who want a modern vampire action game may find that emphasis appealing.
- A direct mechanical successor to the 2004 RPG: Fans may expect broad dialogue freedom, highly reactive factions, unusual builds and an open-ended immersive-sim structure. Those expectations are riskier.
PC Gamer’s launch-era review called the game “good, sometimes even great” and said it delivered a satisfying blood-fuelled undead story. The same review argued that it was “a sequel in name only” and “never really enthusiastically embraces being an RPG.” That is one critic’s assessment, not a review-score average or a universal consensus, but it captures the central buying decision: Bloodlines 2 can work as a dark action RPG even when it does not reproduce the original’s role-playing freedom.
How the editions differ
Paradox announced three main editions. The base game is the same across them; the difference is cosmetic content and the Expansion Pass.
Rank #2
- Consolidate All 7 Clans: Expands gameplay with Banu Haqim, Hecata, Lasombra, The Ministry, Ravnos, Salubri, and Tzimisce clans featuring their iconic Discipline powers for complete clan coverage
- Over 40 New Additions: Collects previously published Blood Sorcery Rituals, Thin-Blood Alchemy Formulae, and Discipline powers plus brand new content to maximize character customization
- Coterie Enhancement Systems: Unlock clan-specific merits and new coterie advantages for all 13 great clans plus Caitiff, Duskborn, and Salubri to strengthen group gameplay

- Complete Player Guide: Streamlined character and coterie creation guidance for new and experienced players, making this the definitive companion to the core rulebook
| Edition | What it includes | Launch suggested retail price | Who should choose it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | Base game | $59.99 / £49.99 / €59.99 | Anyone who wants to play the campaign without committing to add-ons |
| Deluxe | Base game plus the Santa Monica Memories cosmetic pack, which adds decor inspired by the original game to Phyre’s apartment | $69.99 / £58.50 / €69.99 | Players who specifically value the apartment decoration |
| Premium | Base game plus the Expansion Pass: Santa Monica Memories, Loose Cannon and The Flower & the Flame | $89.99 / £74.99 / €89.99 | Players who want the two story packs and have confirmed their current availability |
Those figures are Paradox’s October 2025 launch SRPs. They are not a promise of the price you will see now. Regional taxes, platform pricing, retailer stock and sales can change the amount. A captured US PlayStation listing showed a $29.99 Standard Edition promotion, but that offer ended on October 8, 2026, before the latest information was gathered; it should not be treated as a current deal.
When Standard is the better value
Standard is the sensible default if you are unsure about the game, are buying at a discount, or mainly want to test whether its action-heavy interpretation of Vampire: The Masquerade suits you. It gives you the complete base campaign and avoids paying in advance for content whose release status or appeal may be uncertain.
When Deluxe makes sense
Deluxe adds Santa Monica Memories, a cosmetic apartment pack. It does not add a new campaign or a new clan in the information available here. Choose it only if decorating Phyre’s apartment with references inspired by the original game matters to you and the price difference is acceptable. If the pack is not important, put the extra money toward a sale or future story content instead.

When Premium can be justified
Premium includes the Expansion Pass. Paradox lists two story packs: Loose Cannon, which follows Brujah Sheriff Benny, and The Flower & the Flame, which follows Toreador Primogen Ysabella. The pass also includes Santa Monica Memories.
Rank #3
- Action-Focused Chronicles: New combat options and equipment empower fast-paced gameplay with distinct faction mechanics that transform storytelling into thrilling moments of consequence
A January 28, 2026 PC Gamer roadmap report gave the packs target windows of Q1/Q2 2026 and Q2/Q3 2026. Those windows are now past or in progress as of October 2026, and the available information does not establish whether both packs have shipped on every platform. Before buying Premium, open your platform’s current add-on listing and confirm that each pack is released, included in the edition you are considering and available in your region.
A simple edition decision
- Choose Standard if you want the base campaign or are still evaluating the game.
- Choose Deluxe only when the Santa Monica apartment cosmetics are worth the difference to you.
- Choose Premium when both story packs are currently listed for your platform, you want their characters and stories, and the Premium price is lower than buying the relevant content separately.
- Compare the live store total with the cost of Standard plus individual add-ons. Launch SRPs are useful for context but cannot identify the best current deal.
Platforms and which version fits you
Paradox lists Bloodlines 2 for Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The publisher says the Windows version is compatible with Steam Deck.
| Platform | Edition format and practical considerations |
|---|---|
| Windows PC | Digital versions are listed through Steam, GOG and Epic Games Store. You must meet the published hardware requirements; Steam Deck compatibility is stated by Paradox. |
| PlayStation 5 | Digital and physical console editions are available through the relevant store and retailers. Physical copies contain a PS5 disc. |
| Xbox Series X|S | Digital and physical console editions are available through the relevant store and retailers. Physical copies contain an Xbox disc. |
Choosing PC, PS5 or Xbox
- Pick PC if you already have hardware near the recommended specification, want to choose among three PC storefronts, or plan to use a Steam Deck. Check the exact requirements rather than relying on the game’s age or visual style.
- Pick PS5 or Xbox Series X|S if you prefer a console installation, already own the hardware, or want a physical disc. The game is not listed for PS4, Xbox One or Nintendo Switch in the platform information provided.
- Pick the physical console edition if resale or a disc matters to you. A disc can still require installation and updates, and the exact retailer package should be checked before ordering.
Physical editions: what is actually in the box
Paradox confirms a physical release through select retailers. The PC box contains a Steam code rather than a PC disc. PS5 and Xbox boxes contain a disc.

The publisher’s FAQ describes a Day One Edition and a Premium Edition with a Steelbook and other physical extras. Premium physical contents can vary by region and are limited in quantity. Retail listings may therefore differ in the included case, bonus items, language information or edition name. Confirm all of the following on the specific local listing:

- Expanded Anarch Gameplay: Deep mechanical options and narrative content for the Anarch faction enable players to lead independent vampire societies free from Camarilla control, supporting diverse campaign storytelling
- Strategic Player Agency: Comprehensive rules and character options give players meaningful choices in roleplay scenarios, tactical decision-making, and moral complexity that define engaging TTRPG experiences
- Enhanced Campaign Content: Specialized material provides game masters and players with fresh narrative hooks, faction lore, and supernatural mechanics to deepen ongoing Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition campaigns
- Complete Faction Exploration: Detailed worldbuilding on anarchist vampire culture, rebellion philosophy, and underground politics enriches immersive storytelling for tabletop RPG gaming groups
- Whether the package is for PS5, Xbox Series X|S or PC.
- Whether PC packaging contains a Steam code and not a disc.
- Whether the listing is Day One, Standard, Deluxe or Premium.
- Whether a Steelbook or other physical extras are included.
- Whether the retailer has stock and whether the package is new, used or a code-only product.
PC requirements
Paradox’s published Windows requirements are the clearest way to decide whether the PC version is practical. The minimum and recommended specifications below are official requirements, not performance benchmarks. Meeting the minimum does not guarantee a particular frame rate or graphics setting.
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 11 |
| Processor | Intel Core i3-8350K or AMD Ryzen 3 3300X | Intel Core i5-12600K or AMD Ryzen 5 5600X |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with 6 GB; AMD Radeon RX 480 with 8 GB; Intel Arc A580 with 8 GB and Resizable BAR enabled; or AMD Radeon 780M | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti with 8 GB or AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT with 12 GB |
| Graphics API | DirectX 12 | DirectX 12 |
| Storage | 30 GB | 30 GB |
Checks to make before buying on PC
- Open Windows Settings and confirm whether your system is running 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- In Task Manager’s Performance tab, check your CPU model, installed memory and GPU model.
- Compare the GPU’s memory with the listed requirement. The Intel Arc A580 entry also requires Resizable BAR to be enabled.
- Reserve at least 30 GB of storage for the game, with additional free space advisable for updates and system overhead.
- If your components fall between minimum and recommended, expect to adjust resolution, texture quality and other settings; the requirements alone do not specify a target frame rate.
Story, clans and the kind of role-playing to expect
Phyre and Fabien
Phyre is the player-controlled elder vampire at the center of the Seattle story. Fabien, a Malkavian detective, provides a second viewpoint and is tied to the investigation of his own murder. The 1920s sections are not a separate multiplayer mode or optional online feature; they are part of the single-player narrative described by the publisher.
The six clans
Brujah, Tremere, Banu Haqim, Ventrue, Toreador and Lasombra are available for Phyre. Paradox associates each clan with distinct playstyles, outfits and Disciplines. That gives you a reason to consider a second playthrough if you enjoy experimenting with different powers, but no source here quantifies how much dialogue, mission structure or ending content changes between clans.
Action RPG rather than a pure immersive sim
The publisher calls Bloodlines 2 an action RPG. That label matters when setting expectations: combat and supernatural abilities are central, while the evidence does not support promising the same breadth of systemic problem-solving or faction reactivity that some players associate with the original. Go in expecting a directed vampire story with role-playing choices, not an assurance of a one-to-one recreation of the 2004 game’s design.
Best Value
- Specialized character development: Expanded character sheets with detailed prompts guide you through creating rich, compelling vampire characters tailored for 5th edition gameplay and campaign continuity
- Premium hardcover journal: Linen-look hardcover with eighty pages and ribbon bookmark provides a substantial, professional accessory worthy of the World of Darkness universe
- Character history and backstory: Story hooks and character-building prompts inspire deep creative development, helping you craft unique motivations and personal narratives for your vampire
- Endless campaign playtime: Durable hardcover construction supports multiple campaigns and gaming sessions, serving as a permanent record of your character's evolution and achievements
- Official Renegade accessory: Licensed Vampire: The Masquerade 5th edition product designed by creators who understand immersive storytelling and authentic World of Darkness lore
What the review evidence can and cannot tell you
The available review evidence is a PC Gamer launch-era assessment, not a statistical summary of all critics. Its two useful conclusions pull in different directions:
- The game can be enjoyable and at times excellent as a blood-soaked supernatural adventure.
- It does not consistently behave like the kind of expansive role-playing game that the original’s reputation may lead you to expect.
If you are buying for atmosphere, vampire politics, a Seattle setting and action combat, that review supports a qualified recommendation. If you are buying mainly for unrestricted builds, elaborate social simulation and the feeling that every problem has many systemic solutions, wait for a sale or watch current gameplay from the platform you intend to use.
Expansion Pass: what is known and what must be checked
The Expansion Pass content named by Paradox is:
- Santa Monica Memories: cosmetic apartment decor inspired by the original game.
- Loose Cannon: a story involving Brujah Sheriff Benny.
- The Flower & the Flame: a story involving Toreador Primogen Ysabella.
The roadmap dates reported in January 2026 were target windows, not a permanent guarantee of delivery. Because those windows do not establish the October 2026 release status, use the live store page for your platform as the authority before purchasing Premium. Look for separate entries for both story packs, an explicit “included with Expansion Pass” notice and a release date or playable status. If only a pre-order or future listing appears, treat the content as unavailable rather than assuming it has shipped.
Buying checklist
Use this checklist immediately before checkout:
- Confirm that your platform is Windows PC, PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S.
- On PC, compare your CPU, GPU, RAM, operating system and storage with the official requirements.
- Decide whether you want a digital copy, a physical console disc or a PC box containing a Steam code.
- Check the live price in your currency; the $59.99/$69.99/$89.99 figures are October 2025 launch SRPs.
- For Deluxe, decide whether apartment cosmetics justify the premium.
- For Premium, verify that Loose Cannon and The Flower & the Flame are released and included on your platform.
- Check the region-specific contents of any physical Premium or Steelbook package.
- Remember that the game is single-player and has no co-op mode.
Who should buy Bloodlines 2 now?
Buy Standard now if…
- You want a new single-player vampire story set in Seattle.
- You are comfortable with an action-RPG emphasis.
- You want to try the game without prepaying for cosmetic or expansion content.
- You can buy it at a price that reflects the current platform sale rather than relying on an expired promotion.
Consider waiting for a sale if…
- Your main interest is recreating the original game’s role-playing freedom.
- You are uncertain whether the combat-first approach will suit you.
- You would buy Premium mainly for expansions whose current release status you have not confirmed.
- Your PC is close to, but not clearly above, the minimum requirements and you cannot accept settings compromises.
Choose Deluxe or Premium only when…
- Deluxe’s Santa Monica Memories apartment decor has clear value to you.
- Premium’s two story packs are listed as available for your platform and you want those specific stories.
- The live price difference is better than buying the add-ons separately.
Verdict
Bloodlines 2 is a qualified buy, not an automatic recommendation. Standard offers the least risky entry point for players interested in its Seattle setting, vampire clans, political mystery and action combat. Deluxe is a niche cosmetic upgrade. Premium is a forward-looking bundle whose value depends on the current availability and appeal of Loose Cannon and The Flower & the Flame.
The deciding issue is expectation. Treat Bloodlines 2 as a modern, action-oriented vampire RPG with a focused single-player story and it may be a good purchase. Treat it as a guaranteed recreation of the original’s open-ended role-playing depth and you are more likely to be disappointed.
