The Winix C909 is a large, Wi-Fi-connected air purifier with strong measured particle-cleaning output, automatic fan control, and optional PlasmaWave ionization. It is a better fit for people prioritizing particle removal and app convenience than for buyers seeking a compact unit or a solution to persistent odors. Its room-size claims vary by source and test method, and ownership includes regular carbon and HEPA filter replacements.
How well does the Winix C909 clean a room?
Room-coverage figures for the C909 are not interchangeable: Winix, Costco, and independent testing describe different bases for their numbers.

RTINGS describes the C909’s particle filtration rate as strong and says much of its cleaning performance remains at lower fan speeds. That is useful if you want to run it below maximum, but the reviewer figures should not be confused with Winix’s AHAM-verified room-size claim. Winix cautions that improvement varies with room size and contents, pollutant type and level, and airflow profile (Winix America).

Is the Winix C909 noisy?
RTINGS measured noise from 33.1 dBA at the lowest fan speed to 53.9 dBA at the highest. The speed-2 low-noise test produced the 337 m³/hr output and 310 sq ft recommendation shown above. In practical terms, the C909 gives you a quieter operating option, but maximum-speed operation is substantially louder. The reported figures are RTINGS measurements, not manufacturer noise specifications (RTINGS review).

Will it fit your room and placement?
Winix lists the purifier at approximately 16.5 × 11.3 × 23.2 inches and 17.2 pounds; Costco lists 11.4 × 16.5 × 23.2 inches. These are retailer and manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. RTINGS describes the C909 as bulky, while noting that its narrow profile can sit against a wall. Check both the footprint and the space needed around the unit before choosing a location.
What do the app and automatic controls do?
The C909 has Wi-Fi app control, smart air-quality sensors, and an automatic mode that adjusts fan speed. Those features suit buyers who want remote access and sensor-driven operation instead of managing every speed change themselves. It also has a washable fine-mesh pre-filter, an activated-carbon filter, a True HEPA filter, and PlasmaWave technology as part of its four-stage system (Winix America).

How well does it handle odors?
Do not buy the C909 primarily to remove persistent or heavy odors. RTINGS assesses its carbon sheet as unlikely to make a significant difference in those conditions. The C909 is better considered for particle filtration than as a substitute for a purifier designed around substantial gas- or odor-removal capacity.

Yes. PlasmaWave ionization is optional and can be switched off. RTINGS notes that the feature produces a small amount of ozone. Winix reports an 8-hour time-weighted average ozone result of 1.12 ppbv in a 30 m³ chamber and directs owners to the manual’s safety instructions (Winix America; C909 manual). These qualifications describe the cited product information and test condition; consult the manual if you have specific questions about using the feature.

How often do C909 filters need attention?
The manual specifies a washable permanent pre-filter, a replaceable carbon filter, and a replaceable True HEPA filter. The filter indicator monitors HEPA replacement, so carbon changes need to be tracked separately.

What filters are included?
Included filter quantities depend on the listing. Winix’s product page says the standard package includes one True HEPA filter and four carbon filters, described as one year of filtration. Costco’s listing describes two True HEPA filter sets and eight carbon filters, up to 24 months of normal usage. Check the seller’s current package details rather than assuming every C909 listing includes the same bundle (Winix America; Costco).
What else should you know before buying?
Winix lists power consumption at 95 W and a two-year warranty; Costco also lists a two-year manufacturer’s warranty. These are listing specifications, so check the current seller terms and package before purchase (Winix America; Costco).

RTINGS compares the C909 with the Winix C545, Winix 5530, Winix 5500-2, Levoit Vital 200S, and Coway Airmega 400. When weighing alternatives, focus on measured cleaning at the fan speed you expect to use, room coverage on a comparable basis, footprint, app and automation needs, odor-filter design, and replacement-filter requirements (RTINGS review).
