No. You should not treat the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 as waterproof or safe to submerge. Samsung’s official specifications reviewed for the tablet do not list an IP water-resistance rating. That silence is not a laboratory finding that the tablet failed a water test; it means Samsung does not provide a water-resistance claim you can rely on. Keep the Tab S8 away from liquid, and use only a separately rated, correctly sized protective pouch when working near unavoidable splashes.
The short answer: the Tab S8 has no published water-resistance rating
Samsung identifies the Wi-Fi Galaxy Tab S8 as model SM-X700 and provides product specifications and support manuals for the tablet family. In the specifications reviewed, Samsung lists display, processor, memory, connectivity and other hardware details, but does not state an IP rating or a water-resistance level for the Tab S8.
That distinction matters. An IP rating is a formal claim made under defined testing conditions. Without a published rating for this tablet, there is no stated depth, time limit, liquid type or test condition that establishes safe exposure. The sensible operating rule is therefore simple: do not submerge the tablet, do not use it in the shower or beside a pool where splashes are likely, and do not assume that a brief splash is harmless.

What Samsung’s specifications do—and do not—establish
The product family and model number
The Galaxy Tab S8 family includes multiple configurations. Samsung’s support materials identify the Wi-Fi version as SM-X700. If your tablet has a different model code, check its own support page and specification sheet rather than assuming every Tab S8 variant has identical documentation.
The missing IP figure
The published Tab S8 materials provide no water-resistance number for the product. They do not give an IP67 or IP68 designation, a maximum immersion depth, a permitted immersion time, or a statement that the device is protected against rain, spills or splashes. Those omissions should shape how you use the tablet around liquid.
What the missing figure means in practice
- No immersion permission: There is no Samsung specification authorizing use underwater.
- No splash guarantee: The specifications do not establish that a spill, spray or wet hand is within a tested protection limit.
- No repair or warranty assumption: A liquid-damaged tablet should not be treated as covered simply because another Galaxy product carries an IP claim.
- No universal rule for every variant: Confirm the model code and current documentation for your specific tablet.
Why Galaxy phone IP68 claims do not apply to the Tab S8
Samsung has separate documentation describing IP68 protection for named Galaxy S-series phones, including Galaxy S8 and S8+ models. That document concerns those phones and their tested construction. It is not a specification for the Galaxy Tab S8 tablet.

A phone and a tablet can share the Galaxy name while having different seals, ports, adhesives, speakers, buttons and internal layouts. Even products made by the same company can receive different environmental ratings. You must match an IP claim to the exact model named in the claim; transferring a phone rating to a tablet is not valid.
| Claim or document | What it covers | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Tab S8 specification sheet | Technical details for the Galaxy Tab S8 family | Any IP rating, immersion depth or splash guarantee, because none is listed in the specifications reviewed |
| Samsung IP68 document for named Galaxy S phones | Water and dust protection statements for the phone models identified there | Water protection for the Galaxy Tab S8 |
| A third-party tablet pouch rating | Protection conditions claimed for that accessory when properly closed and used | A change to the tablet’s own construction or an official Samsung rating |
The often-quoted 1.5-meter, 30-minute figure associated with some IP68-rated products belongs to the products and test conditions that publish it. It should not be imported into the Tab S8 specifications.
Can the Galaxy Tab S8 get wet?
It can physically come into contact with water, but that is different from being designed or rated to tolerate water. A tablet may continue working after a minor incident and still develop corrosion or a delayed fault later. Conversely, a small amount of liquid can reach a vulnerable opening and cause an immediate failure. Without a published rating, neither outcome gives you a safe exposure limit.
| Situation | Risk decision | Recommended approach |
|---|---|---|
| Reading in a dry room | Low liquid risk | Use normally, keeping drinks away from the tablet and charging cable |
| Cooking near steam, oils or splashes | Elevated risk | Move the tablet away from the work area or use a sealed accessory designed for the environment |
| Using it beside a bath, pool or sink | High splash and drop risk | Keep the tablet outside the wet zone; do not rely on the absence of an immediate failure |
| Rain or outdoor work | Uncontrolled exposure | Use a separate pouch with stated water-protection conditions, or choose a dry location |
| Submersion | Unacceptable without a specifically rated enclosure | Do not submerge the bare tablet |
Steam deserves the same caution as visible droplets. Condensation can form around openings even when the screen does not look wet. Because Samsung does not publish a Tab S8 water-resistance threshold, there is no specification-based way to classify steam exposure as safe.

How to handle the tablet around water
Keep the bare tablet out of the wet zone
The lowest-risk option is separation. Place the tablet on a dry surface well away from sinks, tubs, pool edges, rain and food-preparation splashes. A stand does not make the tablet water-resistant; it only reduces the chance of dropping it.
Control the nearby hazards
- Use a stable stand so the tablet is less likely to slide into a sink or bath.
- Keep cups, bottles and cleaning liquids on a different surface.
- Dry your hands before touching the tablet, especially before connecting a cable.
- Do not place the tablet on a wet towel, damp counter or surface that can transfer moisture to its edges.
- Keep charging equipment away from areas where water can spill. A cable can pull the tablet into liquid if it is snagged.
Do not mistake a cover for a seal
A folio, keyboard cover or ordinary case can protect against scratches and some impact. Unless the accessory specifically states water-protection conditions, it should not be treated as a waterproof enclosure. Openings around the screen, speakers, buttons and connector can remain exposed.
When a separate waterproof pouch makes sense
If the tablet must be near water—for example, for a recipe, marina checklist or outdoor reference—a separate pouch can create a barrier between the device and its surroundings. The pouch is an accessory with its own claims; it does not make the Tab S8 waterproof and should not be described as Samsung-approved.
Check the fit, not just the advertised screen size
Samsung lists the Galaxy Tab S8 Wi-Fi display as 11.0 inches (278.1 mm). That figure describes the display diagonal, not the tablet’s complete outside dimensions. An “11-inch” pouch may have an opening that is too narrow, a seal that interferes with the camera or buttons, or insufficient room for a case.
- Confirm your exact tablet model and whether a case or keyboard cover will remain installed.
- Compare the pouch’s internal length, width and usable thickness with the tablet and any retained accessory.
- Read the pouch’s stated protection conditions, such as whether it is intended for splashes, rain or temporary immersion.
- Inspect the closure and seams before each use. A pouch with a damaged seal is not equivalent to a new pouch.
- Test the empty pouch according to its maker’s instructions before placing the tablet inside.
- Keep the tablet away from sharp objects that could puncture the material.
No particular pouch has been evaluated here, so dimensions, closure quality and protection claims must be checked for the individual accessory you choose. A pouch also adds handling inconvenience: screen response may be less precise, heat can build up more quickly in direct sun, and the device can still be dropped or lost if the pouch is not secured.
What to do if the Tab S8 is splashed or dropped in liquid
Samsung’s current model-specific support guidance should be your reference for a wet tablet, because the relevant manual passage was not established in the materials reviewed here. Until you can check that guidance, use a conservative response focused on stopping further exposure.
- Remove it from the liquid immediately. Do not continue using it to see whether it still works.
- Disconnect external power and accessories. As a basic electrical-safety precaution, do not connect a charger while the tablet or cable is wet.
- Move it to a dry, safe location. Keep liquid from spreading to other electronics or power outlets.
- Do not claim that drying restores a rating. The Tab S8 has no published water-resistance threshold to restore or verify.
- Consult Samsung’s current support instructions for your model. Use the SM-X700 support materials when that is your Wi-Fi model, or search by the model code printed on your tablet.
- Arrange professional assessment if it behaves abnormally. Unexpected shutdowns, charging problems, distorted audio, screen issues or heat after exposure warrant service rather than repeated testing at home.
A tablet that turns on after a splash is not proof that the internal components are dry or undamaged. Avoid repeatedly powering it on, charging it or stressing it with demanding tasks while you are deciding what to do.

How to verify your own tablet’s documentation
Model names can be shortened in retailer listings, cases and user discussions. Use the device’s model identifier and Samsung’s support materials to avoid applying advice for a different product.

- Check whether the code is SM-X700 for the Wi-Fi Galaxy Tab S8 referenced by Samsung’s support page.
- Open the current manual and specification information for that exact code.
- Look specifically for an IP rating or water-resistance statement. If none is listed, continue treating the tablet as unprotected against liquid.
- Use the latest model-specific support instructions if the tablet has already been exposed to water.
Samsung’s support listing includes an Android 12 manual dated March 18, 2022, later manual versions and a manual updated in 2025. The existence of newer manuals does not itself create a water-resistance rating; it is still necessary to read the documentation for your exact model.
Common misunderstandings about the Tab S8 and water
“It is a premium tablet, so it must be sealed.”
Price and product tier do not establish an environmental rating. Only a specification that names the model and rating can support that conclusion.
“Another Galaxy device survived a pool accident.”
An anecdote is not a test condition. Different Galaxy models can have different protection designs, and one device’s survival does not define the Tab S8’s tolerance.
“An IP68 phone figure should apply to all Galaxy products.”
Samsung’s IP68 document names particular phones. It does not extend that claim to the Galaxy Tab S8.
“An 11-inch waterproof sleeve will automatically fit.”
The Tab S8 display measures 11.0 inches (278.1 mm), but the display diagonal is not the same as the tablet’s full external dimensions. Check the pouch’s internal measurements and closure clearance.
“If the screen still works, the tablet is fine.”
Immediate operation cannot rule out moisture inside the tablet or later corrosion. Follow current Samsung support guidance instead of treating continued operation as a safety certification.
Bottom line for everyday use
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 should be handled as a non-water-resistant tablet. Samsung’s specifications reviewed here do not list an IP rating, so there is no published depth, time or splash condition that makes liquid exposure safe. Keep the bare tablet dry, do not transfer IP68 claims from Galaxy phones, and use a separate pouch only when its dimensions and protection conditions are suitable for your exact setup. If the tablet gets wet, stop exposing it, disconnect power and consult Samsung’s current model-specific support guidance.
