Sony describes the PULSE Elite as using planar magnetic drivers. This is a different driver construction from the conventional dynamic drivers found in many gaming headsets, but the specification alone does not prove that it will sound better for every listener. Retractable microphone

That is a manufacturer feature claim; the reviewed official material does not establish how speech quality compares with other microphones, how it behaves in a loud room, or whether callers will prefer it to a dedicated microphone.

The retractable design is useful if you alternate between multiplayer chat and ordinary listening. It also avoids having a removable microphone to misplace. If microphone clarity is your primary buying criterion, test it with the chat applications you actually use or buy from a seller with a suitable return policy.
Charging hanger in the box
Sony includes a PULSE Elite charging hanger and mounting plate. The product information says the hanger can be attached to a desk or tabletop or mounted on a wall. Screws and other additional mounting hardware are not included, so a wall installation may require hardware appropriate for your wall type.

The hanger changes the everyday charging routine: instead of searching for a cable after every session, you can put the headset in one designated location. It is still an accessory, not evidence of better battery endurance, and its value depends on whether you have a convenient place to install it.

Sony’s February 21, 2024 PlayStation Blog launch guide lists PS5, PC, Mac, PlayStation Portal, and Bluetooth-compatible smartphones and tablets as supported destinations. Compatibility is not the same as identical functionality: the PS4 notes are particularly important if you are buying for an older console.
How to set up the PULSE Elite
PS5, PC, or Mac through PlayStation Link
- Remove the headset and the PlayStation Link USB adapter from the package. Sony says the adapter is paired with the headset out of the box.
- Plug the adapter into an available USB Type-A port on the PS5, PC, or Mac. On a computer, use the appropriate adapter or hub if your model has no Type-A port.
- Power on the headset and select it as the active output and chat device in the host’s audio settings if it is not selected automatically.
- Play a short audio clip and make a test recording or chat call. This confirms both game sound and microphone input before a multiplayer session.
- For a computer, check the operating system’s per-app output selection. A game can continue sending sound to speakers even when the headset is connected if the app has its own output setting.
Adding a Bluetooth phone or tablet
- Open Bluetooth settings on the phone or tablet and start a new-device search.
- Put the PULSE Elite into its Bluetooth-pairing state using the headset controls, then select it on the mobile device.
- Confirm that music or a test call plays through the headset.
- Leave the PlayStation Link adapter connected to the game device if you want game audio and the Bluetooth device available together.
The official material establishes simultaneous Link and Bluetooth operation but does not publish a universal button-by-button pairing sequence for every host. Follow the current on-screen prompts and the headset’s supplied instructions for the exact control action.

Installing and using the charging hanger
- Choose a desk, tabletop, or wall location close enough to your charging arrangement.
- Attach the supplied mounting plate according to Sony’s instructions. For a wall installation, provide screws or other hardware suitable for the wall; those items are not included.
- Place the hanger where the headset can rest without the boom or ear cups being forced sideways.
- After charging, return the headset to the hanger so the storage and charging position becomes consistent.
Is the PULSE Elite comfortable?
There is no universal yes or no. Sony describes the design as comfortable, but that is a product-page claim rather than an independent fit result. Sony’s safety guide lists an approximate weight of 347 g (12.2 oz), which is substantial enough that individual fit matters.

Head shape, headband pressure, ear-cup contact, glasses, hair, heat buildup, and the length of a session all change how a headset feels. A fit that is fine for a one-hour match may become tiring during an all-day gaming session. The available official sources do not provide independent headband-adjustment measurements, clamping-force data, or long-session user testing.
How to reduce the risk of a poor fit
- Try the headset on before committing when a local retailer permits demonstrations.
- If buying online, read the seller’s return window and any hygiene-related restrictions on opened headsets.
- Wear it with your normal glasses and play for long enough to notice pressure at the temples, crown, and jaw.

If you regularly forget to charge accessories, the included hanger and the short-charge claim make the headset easier to live with. If you need a guaranteed runtime for a particular work shift or tournament schedule, plan around less than the “up to” number and verify the battery indicator on your specific host.
Microphone and chat considerations
The retractable boom is convenient for switching between voice chat and ordinary listening. Sony’s AI-enhanced noise-rejection description suggests that the headset is designed to reduce unwanted background sound, but no independent speech-intelligibility or noise-environment test was established.
