Yes—but only for the right kind of everyday driving. The McLaren 750S can handle commuting, motorway trips and weekend journeys for one or two people when the roads are paved and the driver accepts supercar compromises. Its adaptive suspension, available nose lift and useful Coupe luggage capacity make it considerably easier to live with than its performance suggests. It is still a very low, loud, expensive-to-fuel two-seater with touchscreen-heavy controls, and the Spider sacrifices much of the Coupe’s rear storage. Think of the 750S as a usable supercar, not a practical family car.

What “practical” means in a 750S

For an everyday car, practicality usually means carrying passengers, swallowing shopping, clearing poor roads, running cheaply and operating without special planning. The 750S meets only some of those tests. It offers two seats, not a rear bench; its luggage space is respectable in Coupe form but sharply reduced in the Spider; and its low nose demands attention at ramps and speed bumps.

McLaren itself describes the car as combining “visceral Longtail thrills with everyday usability and comfort.” That is manufacturer positioning, not an independent ownership statistic, but it accurately describes the trade-off: the 750S is designed to be driven on normal roads, yet it never stops being a mid-engined supercar. There is no reliable published figure showing how many owners use a 750S every day, and available road tests do not establish long-term repair costs or a typical failure rate. The useful question is therefore whether your routes, passengers, storage needs and tolerance for attention match the car’s documented capabilities.

Passenger space: the non-negotiable limitation

Two seats only

The 750S is strictly a two-seat car. Edmunds’ 2025 US specification listing confirms the seating configuration. That immediately rules it out as a family vehicle, school-run car or anything that regularly needs to carry more than one passenger. A child seat, pet carrier or bulky personal item also competes for the limited cabin and luggage space rather than using a dedicated rear area. [Edmunds 2025 750S specifications]

What the two-seat layout suits

For a single driver, a couple or an owner with another vehicle for family duties, two seats can be entirely adequate. It also makes the 750S easier to treat as a focused commuter or weekend car: there is no expectation that it should replace a conventional hatchback or SUV. Decide this before considering ride comfort or luggage, because no option can add practical passenger capacity.

Ground clearance and daily obstacles

Low, even with the lift system

McLaren’s 2023 brochure lists 107 mm of standard ground clearance—about 4.2 inches. It gives an 8.3-degree ramp angle, increasing to 10.4 degrees with the vehicle-lift system. Those figures explain why driveway lips, underground-car-park entrances and aggressive speed bumps deserve a route check. Lift improves the approach angle; it does not turn the 750S into a high-clearance car. [McLaren 750S Product Brochure (2023)]

How lift helps

Car and Driver reports that raising the nose helps the car negotiate speed bumps and parking-lot entrances. That makes the system a meaningful everyday aid, particularly if your garage or workplace has a steep transition. The exact equipment on a used or imported car must be verified: do not assume every 750S has identical options or that the lift operates in the same way on every market specification. Test your actual route

Before buying, drive the precise car over your own driveway, garage ramp and most troublesome speed bumps. Approach slowly and at an angle where appropriate, and confirm that the lift reaches the required height before the front splitter arrives at the obstacle. A route that works on a dealer’s smooth access road may still fail at home. Rough surfaces, broken edges and drainage channels can be more problematic than a normal rounded bump.

Commuting and urban driving

Adaptive settings make ordinary roads possible

The 750S has adaptive dampers and selectable Comfort, Sport and Track modes. Comfort is the relevant setting for traffic and poor urban surfaces; Sport and Track are intended to sharpen the car rather than make stop-start travel easier. McLaren’s official material presents the chassis as combining performance with everyday usability, while Wallpaper* reviewer Jonathan Bell found the car broadly usable on open roads and comfortable over smooth motorway miles. Those are manufacturer and individual-review impressions, not a controlled ride comparison across supercars. [McLaren 750S specifications] [Wallpaper* road review]

Visibility and attention

Wallpaper* praises visibility and all-round usability, which matters when positioning a wide, low car in traffic. The same review warns that the V8’s sound can be conspicuous in a city. There is no decibel measurement in the available material, so treat that as one reviewer’s experience rather than a universal noise rating. If you leave early from a quiet neighborhood or regularly use enclosed car parks, listen to the car in those settings before committing.

Weather and road quality

The documented case for everyday use assumes paved roads. Deep potholes, standing water, loose gravel and badly repaired ramps increase the risk of wheel, tire or underbody damage and can make a low car exhausting to use. The 750S may be perfectly manageable on your local streets but impractical on a route dominated by rough surfaces. A test drive should include the exact road types and traffic conditions you encounter, not only a fast, smooth road outside a dealership.

Long-distance comfort

McLaren says the 750S blends everyday comfort with performance, and its adaptive suspension gives the driver a comfort-oriented mode. Bell’s Wallpaper* review describes smooth motorway travel as comfortable. That supports using the car for longer journeys, but it does not guarantee the same result on coarse concrete, patched asphalt or roads with frequent expansion joints. Seat comfort, tire pressures and your tolerance for engine and road noise remain personal variables.

Plan rest and refuelling stops as you would in any high-performance car. The 750S can cover motorway miles, but its cabin, storage and fuel economy do not provide the relaxed, high-capacity experience of a luxury grand tourer. A buyer who expects a quiet, low-effort executive commute may find the car tiring even if the suspension itself is compliant.

Luggage: Coupe versus Spider

The body style changes the 750S’s usefulness more than its exterior differences suggest. McLaren’s brochure lists separate front and rear luggage figures:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Body style Front luggage Rear luggage Total listed volume Everyday implication
750S Coupe 150 litres 210 litres 360 litres More suitable for a two-person weekend trip
750S Spider 150 litres 58 litres 208 litres Rear storage is heavily reduced by the folding roof

These are manufacturer figures from a brochure whose technical data is based on EU/UK specifications dated 25 April 2023. Car and Driver independently notes that the Spider has less rear cargo room because of its folding roof. In practical terms, the Coupe is the better choice if you regularly carry two people’s luggage, groceries or work equipment. [McLaren brochure] [Car and Driver]

Volume alone does not prove that a particular suitcase will fit. The openings, shape of the compartments and roof mechanism matter. Measure the bags you actually use and inspect both loading apertures. The Spider’s 58-litre rear compartment can still hold small items, but it should not be treated as equivalent to the Coupe’s 210 litres.

Fuel consumption, tank size and running range

Fuel figures for the 750S vary by market and measurement method. They must not be blended into one universal number:

Figure Source and scope How to read it
12.2 L/100 km combined McLaren EU WLTP, 2023 brochure and current product material Official European combined-cycle result
22 low; 11 medium; 9.8 high; 11 extra-high L/100 km McLaren EU WLTP cycle, 2023 brochure Official figures for separate test phases
15 city, 19 highway, 17 combined mpg Edmunds 2025 US listing US-market agency figures for that listing
12 mpg Car and Driver tested 750S One publication test car, not an owner average

McLaren lists a 72-litre tank (19 US gallons) on its product information. Edmunds also lists a 19-gallon tank and requires premium unleaded for its 2025 US specification. The brochure marks US EPA values as “TBC” in the 2023 document, so use the local-market rating for budgeting rather than converting the European WLTP number yourself. The 12 mpg test result illustrates how quickly consumption can worsen with enthusiastic driving, but it is not a prediction of every commute. Traffic, temperature, tire pressures, driving mode and acceleration all affect range. Budget for premium fuel and refuelling more often than you would with an ordinary daily car.

Cabin controls and phone connectivity

Touchscreen-led operation

Car and Driver describes a 7-inch vertical infotainment display that houses most audio, climate and ambient-light controls. Wallpaper* calls the touch controls idiosyncratic rather than especially ergonomic. That can matter more in daily use than it does on a short performance drive: changing temperature or audio while moving requires interaction with a screen instead of a familiar array of physical switches. [Car and Driver] [Wallpaper*]

Apple and Android phones

CarPlay is reported as standard, while Android Auto is absent according to Car and Driver. iPhone users therefore have a documented smartphone-integration path; Android users should test the native system and Bluetooth behavior during the purchase inspection. If you adjust climate settings frequently or rely on Android Auto navigation, put those tasks on the test-drive checklist rather than assuming compatibility.

Warranty, maintenance and support

For the 2025 US vehicle, Edmunds lists a three-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty. Car and Driver reports a three-year limited and powertrain warranty plus three years of complimentary maintenance. McLaren’s brochure says servicing is carried out by authorized retailer technicians and directs owners to a retailer for vehicle information. Coverage can vary with country, in-service date, ownership history and the individual car, so confirm the written warranty and maintenance terms before purchase. [Edmunds] [Car and Driver] [McLaren brochure]

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The available specifications do not establish long-term repair pricing or a representative 750S failure rate. Treat access to an authorized retailer as a practical requirement: check travel distance, appointment availability, recovery arrangements and whether the retailer supports the exact market version you are considering.

Coupe or Spider, lift or no lift?

Decision Choose this when… Check before buying
Coupe You need the maximum documented luggage space for two people Bag dimensions and rear-compartment opening
Spider Open-air driving is worth giving up 152 litres of listed rear space Roof operation, storage access and the items you carry
Lift-equipped car Your route includes steep ramps or frequent scraping hazards That specific vehicle’s equipment and lift operation
No lift Your roads and parking entrances are demonstrably gentle Clearance at your home, work and regular destinations

The brochure’s figures show a 10.4-degree ramp angle with lift versus 8.3 degrees without it. They do not prove that every driveway will be safe, so inspect the actual car and route. Sources do not provide a controlled daily-driving comparison between Coupe and Spider beyond the documented storage difference.

A practical pre-purchase checklist

  1. Confirm the role. If you need more than two seats, stop: the 750S cannot meet that requirement.
  2. Inspect the exact specification. Verify body style, front-lift equipment, infotainment features, tire and wheel sizes, warranty status and service history.
  3. Drive your route. Include your driveway, garage ramp, speed bumps, roughest road and a motorway section.
  4. Load your luggage. Bring the suitcases, laptop bags or grocery containers you actually use and check both compartments.
  5. Test the cabin controls. Pair your phone, try navigation, adjust climate settings and assess whether the vertical screen is tolerable.
  6. Evaluate noise and attention. Listen in your neighborhood and in enclosed car parks, not only on an open road.
  7. Price fuel and support locally. Use your market’s official rating, premium-fuel price and the distance to an authorized retailer.

Who should—and should not—use a 750S every day?

It can work for you if

  • You normally drive alone or with one passenger.
  • Your routes are paved and you can avoid severe potholes and steep unlifted ramps.
  • You value supercar performance and sound more than quietness or low fuel cost.
  • You can live with touchscreen controls and, if relevant, the lack of Android Auto.
  • You choose the Coupe when luggage capacity matters.
  • You have practical access to an authorized McLaren retailer.

Choose another primary car if

  • You regularly carry children, more than one passenger or bulky equipment.
  • Your commute includes rough roads, unprotected parking or frequent scraping hazards.
  • You need predictable low running costs and long range between fuel stops.
  • You expect conventional physical controls or full Android phone integration.
  • You require a quiet, discreet car for noise-sensitive urban use.

Verdict

The McLaren 750S is practical enough for everyday driving only under defined conditions: two occupants, paved routes, careful clearance management and acceptance of premium-supercar costs. The Coupe is the more useful body style because its 210-litre rear compartment adds substantially to the 150-litre front space; the Spider remains viable if open-air driving matters more than luggage. A lift-equipped example, adaptive suspension and a real test of your own route can make daily use realistic, but none removes the two-seat layout, low stance, fuel demand or unusual controls.

In short, buy the 750S as an everyday-capable supercar—not as an ordinary everyday car.
