The MCHOSE K99 V2 makes a strong case for heavy typists who want a full-featured compact layout and a cushioned, muted typing feel. In Tom’s Guide reviewer Nikita Achanta’s tested unit, its gasket mount, dampening and linear switches produced a comfortable, “creamy-thocky” sound. The trade-offs are real: the case flexes when twisted, the stock switch choices are limited to two linear options, and the reviewer ran into a configuration problem on macOS.
What the K99 V2 is—and what it isn’t
MCHOSE describes the K99 V2 as a 99-key keyboard in a 98% layout: it keeps a number pad while taking less space than a conventional full-size board. It is a distinct model from the original K99 and the K99 V3, so specifications and features for those versions should not be assumed to apply here. MCHOSE lists approximate dimensions of 399 × 150 × 47mm and weight of about 1.6kg, excluding cable and receiver. MCHOSE’s model FAQ provides the V2-specific layout and size details.
Tom’s Guide’s review table lists an ABS plastic case, gasket mount, double-shot PBT keycaps, per-key RGB, and three-device pairing over Bluetooth, 2.4GHz wireless, or USB wired connection. It also lists a 1,000Hz polling rate and the two stock switch choices as linear switches. Manufacturer documentation gives the V2 polling options as 250, 500, or 1,000Hz; software setup is supported over USB wired or 2.4GHz, not Bluetooth.

Why the typing feel and sound appeal
Achanta tested a version fitted with pre-lubed Icy Creamsicle linear switches. Tom’s Guide lists those switches with 42g activation force, 1.3mm pre-travel and 3.5mm total travel. The review describes the board’s gasket construction and six layers of dampening as making typing comfortable and reducing unwanted vibration and ping. Achanta summarized the design this way: “The K99 V2 features a gasket-mount design which ensures structural integrity while reducing vibrations and unwanted metallic pings.”

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The “creamy-thocky” description is the reviewer’s subjective impression of that unit, not a standardized acoustic result or a promise for every K99 V2. Switches, keycaps, typing force, room acoustics and recording equipment all affect how a keyboard sounds. If sound is your priority, treat the review as a useful indication of one setup rather than a guarantee that every configuration will sound the same.
Achanta also reported typing 98 words per minute at 91% accuracy on 10fastfingers after unboxing. Tom’s Guide gives the reviewer’s rolling average across tested keyboards as 92.71 WPM at 91.2% accuracy. Both figures describe the reviewer’s tests in 2026; they do not show that the K99 V2 will make a typical user faster.

The compromises to consider
The case can flex
Achanta found noticeable case flex when twisting the keyboard. That matters if you expect a particularly rigid chassis or regularly move and handle a board roughly. The cushioned typing feel and the case’s resistance to twisting are separate qualities: a gasket mount can make keystrokes feel softer without guaranteeing a rigid outer case.

The reviewed stock options are Hyacinth and Icy Creamsicle linears. If you prefer a tactile bump, an audible click, or a silent switch, neither stock option addresses that preference. The board is hot-swappable, however, and the review and product listing support compatible 3-pin and 5-pin switch changes. Check a replacement switch’s pin configuration and compatibility before ordering; the Australian listing says a switch puller is included.

Mac configuration may take troubleshooting
Tom’s Guide reports that M HUB Web failed for Achanta on the Macs tested. That is an issue observed in one review, not proof of a universal macOS failure. MCHOSE’s current M HUB guide says web configuration works through Chrome, Edge or another supported Chromium-based browser and requires HID permission. It does not establish that the specific failure in Achanta’s review has been fixed.
For configuration, connect by USB or 2.4GHz rather than Bluetooth, use a supported Chromium browser for the web driver, and allow HID access when prompted. Tom’s Guide says the downloadable M HUB Driver is for Windows 10 and later. If you rely on changing settings from a Mac, treat the web configuration path as something to verify before buying rather than assuming it will work smoothly.

Specifications, price and battery details to verify
Price and battery information vary by source and region, so neither should be treated as a universal current specification. Tom’s Guide’s August 27, 2026 review reported $99 direct from MCHOSE in the US, £78 at Amazon UK, and $199 at Amazon US. The MCHOSE-listed Australian page displayed A$129 sale and A$169 regular when accessed October 7, 2026. These are dated snapshots, not live quotes; confirm the exact variant, seller, current price and return terms before ordering.

Battery capacity is unresolved in the cited listings: Tom’s Guide lists 6,000mAh, while the Australian product page says 8,000mAh. Confirm the specification for the exact regional SKU rather than relying on either number as applying to every K99 V2.

The Australian product page is one regional listing; its prices and claims should not be generalized to other markets.
Who should choose it?
- Good fit: You want a number pad in a compact 98% layout, prefer linear switches, value a cushioned typing feel, and like a damped sound profile.
- Think twice: You need a very rigid case, want tactile or clicky switches out of the box, or depend on reliable software configuration on macOS.
- Potential workaround: If you like the board’s layout and feel but not its linear switches, hot-swap compatible 3-pin or 5-pin alternatives after checking fit and compatibility.
Tom’s Guide points readers prioritizing a more rigid case toward the Royal Kludge S98 or Keychron K10 V2, and readers wanting more stock switch options toward the Keychron V1 Ultra 8K, Royal Kludge S98 or Royal Kludge L75. Those are the review’s suggestions, not a current side-by-side test. Compare layout, case rigidity, stock switches, operating-system software support, wireless needs and local pricing before choosing an alternative.
