Yes—provided your PC matches the target you want. The PC edition delivers the remake’s complete single-player campaign with adjustable graphics, ultrawide support, upscaling, keyboard-and-mouse controls, and extensive accessibility options. Its requirements are demanding, and Naughty Dog has continued to publish performance, crash, stability, and audio fixes, so the sensible decision is to compare your hardware with the publisher’s target tiers rather than assume that the minimum specification means a comfortable experience.

What the PC edition includes

The Last of Us Part I is a single-player remake of the original game and its Left Behind story. The Steam listing identifies the PC release as launching on March 28, 2023: Steam store listing. The PC version does not require multiplayer services to play its campaign.

Its main advantage over a fixed-console configuration is control over image quality and performance targets. You can change texture, shadow, reflection, and ambient-occlusion quality; select a frame-rate cap; enable VSync; and use image reconstruction through AMD FSR 2.2 or NVIDIA DLSS Super Resolution when your hardware supports it. The game also supports 4K output, 21:9 ultrawide displays, and 32:9 super-ultrawide displays. These options are documented on PlayStation’s official PC feature and requirements page.

Input and accessibility

Keyboard and mouse, DualShock 4, DualSense, and other compatible gamepads are supported. You can remap controls fully, assign primary and secondary keyboard or mouse bindings, and use an adaptive mode that combines keyboard and controller input. The PC release also includes the game’s accessibility feature suite, so players can tailor controls, visual assistance, audio cues, and difficulty-related aids to their needs.

Can your PC run it? Official requirements by target

PlayStation publishes four performance tiers. They are targets, not independent benchmark guarantees: a listed graphics card may perform differently depending on drivers, background applications, game settings, cooling, and the scene being rendered. Match your hardware to the resolution and preset you actually want instead of treating the minimum row as a recommended quality level.

Publisher tier Stated target GPU examples CPU examples RAM Storage
Minimum 30 fps at 720p, Low Radeon 470 4 GB; Radeon RX 6500 XT 4 GB; GeForce GTX 970 4 GB; GeForce 1050 Ti 4 GB Ryzen 5 1500X; Core i7-4770K 16 GB 100 GB SSD
Recommended Average 60 fps at 1080p, High Radeon RX 5700 XT 8 GB; RX 6600 XT 8 GB; GeForce RTX 2070 Super 8 GB; RTX 3060 8 GB Ryzen 5 3600X; Core i7-8700 16 GB 100 GB SSD
Performance Average 60 fps at 1440p, High Radeon RX 6750 XT; GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Ryzen 5 5600X; Core i7-9700K 32 GB 100 GB SSD
Ultra Average 60 fps at 4K, Ultra Radeon RX 7900 XTX; GeForce RTX 4080 Ryzen 9 5900X; Core i5-12600K 32 GB 100 GB SSD

Every tier lists Windows 10 64-bit, version 1909 or newer, and a 100 GB SSD. That is the requirement stated on the official page; it does not define a later Windows version as part of the listed specification. Check the current store and game compatibility information when you buy, particularly if your system uses a newer Windows release or a nonstandard installation.

How to use the table

  1. Identify your target. Decide whether you want 720p Low at 30 fps, 1080p High at an average 60 fps, 1440p High at an average 60 fps, or 4K Ultra at an average 60 fps.
  2. Check the complete configuration. Compare your CPU model, graphics card, dedicated VRAM, system RAM, and free SSD capacity with the matching row. A card that resembles a listed model but has less VRAM is not an exact match.
  3. Use the lower tier when one component falls short. Lowering resolution, texture quality, shadows, reflections, or the frame-rate target may make a mixed configuration practical, but the publisher’s row does not guarantee the result.
  4. Leave installation headroom. The requirement is 100 GB of SSD space. Keep additional free capacity for updates and normal operating-system use rather than filling the drive to its limit.

Performance features that matter on PC

Upscaling and frame pacing

FSR 2.2 and DLSS Super Resolution can render internally below the output resolution and reconstruct the image, reducing GPU workload. VSync can synchronize output with the display, while the in-game frame-rate cap lets you choose a steadier ceiling instead of allowing uncapped spikes and dips. These controls are useful when your hardware is close to a target but cannot sustain it consistently at native resolution.

THE LAST OF US PART I - DELUXE EDITION - PC [Online Game Code]
  • Experience the emotional storytelling and unforgettable characters in The Last of Us, winner of over 200 Game of the Year awards.
  • Includes the complete The Last of Us single-player story and celebrated prequel chapter, Left Behind, which explores the events that changed the lives of Ellie and her best friend Riley forever.

Graphics controls

Texture quality, shadows, reflections, and ambient occlusion can be adjusted independently. This gives you more options than simply choosing a global preset: for example, you might retain higher textures while reducing shadows, or lower reflections before reducing resolution. The correct compromise depends on which component is limiting performance and how much VRAM is available.

Display and sound

Compatible hardware and displays can output 4K, and the game supports both 21:9 and 32:9 aspect ratios. 3D audio works with stereo headphones or compatible speakers. If you use a DualSense controller, connect it by wire for the haptic and adaptive-trigger features specifically described for the PC edition.

Has the PC version been fixed?

It has received substantial updates, but the available evidence does not justify promising flawless performance on every computer. Naughty Dog’s update history shows an ongoing effort to improve the port:

  • Version 1.0.5.0, May 9, 2023: addressed performance, shader-build times, texture fidelity, CPU performance, loading, and VRAM impact, along with crashes and progression issues. The notes are published by Naughty Dog at v1.0.5.0 patch notes.
  • Version 1.1.0, June 13, 2023: listed global CPU and GPU optimizations, shader and loading improvements, crash fixes, and Steam Deck fixes: v1.1.0 patch notes.
  • Version 1.1.5, July 3, 2025: listed further performance optimizations, crash and stability fixes, a Steam Deck audio improvement, and support for AMD’s latest FSR version on compatible Radeon GPUs. Naughty Dog describes the update as bringing “various improvements and stability fixes from The Last of Us Part II Remastered for PC and support for AMD’s latest version of FidelityFX™ Super Resolution (FSR).” Read the v1.1.5 notes.

This chronology supports saying that the port was actively patched over time. It does not establish a universal frame rate, prove that every historical issue is gone, or predict behavior on a configuration that has not been tested.

Known troubleshooting areas

Naughty Dog’s PC FAQ still covers high CPU usage, high VRAM usage, performance and driver troubleshooting, and audio symptoms such as pops, clicks, missing dialogue, or missing cinematic sound. It also points players toward the in-game performance HUD and frame-rate cap. These support topics are concrete reasons to keep drivers current and use the game’s diagnostic settings; they do not reveal how often each problem occurs on the current build.

If CPU or VRAM usage is high

  • Confirm that your system is close to the CPU, GPU, VRAM, and RAM specification for your chosen target.
  • Use the in-game performance HUD to identify whether the CPU or GPU is limiting the frame rate.
  • Set a frame-rate cap and reduce the settings most relevant to the limiting component, then test the same scene again.
  • Check graphics-driver guidance in Naughty Dog’s support documentation before attributing the behavior to a defective installation.

If audio is missing or distorted

  • Check the output device and channel configuration, especially when using surround equipment or a monitor with a different audio path.
  • Test stereo headphones or compatible speakers, which are the configuration specified for 3D audio.
  • Install the current game update and consult the FAQ if dialogue, cinematic sound, pops, or clicks continue.

Steam Deck status

The Steam Deck FAQ records the game as Verified as of version 1.1.0. Version 1.1.5 also lists an audio improvement for certain Steam Deck areas. Verified is an official compatibility status, not a promise of a particular frame rate, battery life, image quality, or issue-free behavior in every location and session. If a handheld is your main platform, treat the status as a useful baseline and keep the game updated.

Drawbacks to weigh before buying

Demanding hardware targets

The published 1080p High target already calls for 16 GB of RAM, a 100 GB SSD, and a graphics card such as an RTX 2070 Super or RX 5700 XT. The 1440p and 4K rows increase memory to 32 GB, and the Ultra row names high-end cards such as the RX 7900 XTX or RTX 4080. Owners of older or laptop hardware may need reduced settings, upscaling, or a lower resolution rather than the preset implied by the display they own.

Performance can vary by configuration

The publisher’s averages are targets, not guarantees for every scene. CPU scheduling, available VRAM, drivers, cooling, background applications, and shader compilation can all affect the experience. There is no current independent benchmark in the cited material that can convert these rows into a guaranteed result for your exact PC.

Some PC-specific features have conditions

DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers require a wired connection. 3D audio requires stereo headphones or compatible speakers. Upscaling modes depend on compatible graphics hardware, and ultrawide or 4K output requires a suitable display and GPU.

Support history matters

The number and scope of the updates show that the port needed ongoing optimization and stability work. That is not proof that the current version is unusable, but it is a reason to install updates before judging performance and to buy only when you are comfortable with some configuration-specific troubleshooting.

Who should play it on PC?

A good fit

  • You want the remake’s campaign on a computer rather than a PlayStation console.
  • Your hardware matches the 1080p High or higher target you actually intend to use.
  • You value ultrawide support, keyboard-and-mouse play, remapping, accessibility options, or adjustable image-quality settings.
  • You have at least 100 GB of free SSD space and are willing to keep drivers and the game updated.

Consider waiting or using another platform

  • Your system is only near the minimum and you expect high settings or a locked 60 fps.
  • You have limited VRAM, less than 16 GB of RAM, or no suitable SSD capacity.
  • You need a guaranteed frame rate on a specific laptop or desktop configuration that has not been independently tested.
  • You want wireless DualSense haptics; the documented PC requirement for those effects is a wired connection.

Where to buy and what to check

PlayStation links to Steam and Epic as PC purchase destinations. Steam lists the game as a single-player release. Prices, discounts, regional availability, and customer-review sentiment change, so check the live storefront for your region at the time of purchase rather than relying on an old price. The official Steam destination is The Last of Us Part I on Steam.

For a final hardware decision, record your CPU, GPU and VRAM, system RAM, SSD free space, monitor resolution, and desired frame rate. Compare all of them with one publisher tier, then allow room to lower settings if your configuration sits between rows. That approach is more reliable than buying on the word “minimum” alone.

Verdict

The Last of Us Part I is worth playing on PC for players who want the remake’s campaign and need the flexibility of PC controls, graphics settings, ultrawide displays, upscaling, and accessibility features. It is a conditional recommendation: the hardware targets are substantial, the official support pages document real CPU, VRAM, and audio troubleshooting cases, and patches—including version 1.1.5 in July 2025—show continued maintenance rather than a guarantee of perfect behavior. If your computer aligns with the 1080p High, 1440p High, or 4K Ultra target you want, the PC edition is a reasonable purchase; if it only meets the minimum row, expect to compromise on resolution, settings, or frame rate.
