What is the IKEA VESTMARKA mattress?
VESTMARKA is a sprung mattress built around a Bonnell spring unit: hourglass-shaped steel springs connected to one another. Foam and wadding sit above the spring layer to add cushioning. It is not an individually pocketed spring mattress.

Comfort is personal, and the available evidence does not establish how the mattress feels for different body types or sleeping positions. IKEA lists firm and medium-firm versions in the cited markets; those labels are not a universal firmness scale. Use your local product listing to confirm the option, size, and product code, and choose according to your own preference rather than assuming the same label guarantees the same feel everywhere.

The Sweden listing specifies polyurethane foam with a density of 25 kg/m³ and 166 springs per square metre for the 90×200 cm model. Those are details for that regional listing and size, not confirmed specifications for every VESTMARKA sold worldwide.
Is VESTMARKA good for couples?
Its connected Bonnell springs can pass movement across the mattress, so a partner may notice when the other person moves. IKEA says the design is especially suitable for people sleeping alone; that is manufacturer product copy, not a guarantee that motion will always be felt or never be felt. If minimizing movement transfer is a priority for a shared bed, this is a meaningful trade-off to consider.

What should you know before setting it up?
- Check the bed base: IKEA says to use a mattress base or a non-adjustable slatted bed base. Confirm the instructions on your local listing for the exact model.
- Allow for roll-packed delivery: The cited IKEA page says the mattress is roll-packed to make it easier to bring home. Check local delivery and unpacking guidance when purchasing.
- Protect the surface: IKEA recommends using a mattress protector to help keep the mattress clean. A protector is an additional item, not a stated part of the mattress package.
How do you clean and care for VESTMARKA?
- Do not wash the mattress, according to IKEA’s care instructions.
