Available copies of the manual conflict on maximum runtime. One states up to 45 minutes; another states up to 60 minutes. Both qualify the figure as low mode with the crevice tool, so neither should be treated as a general runtime across settings and accessories. The manual copy listing 45 minutes says charging takes eight hours and specifies 12 hours of continuous charging before the first three uses. Confirm these instructions in the unit’s own documentation. Such a long charge time makes it important to check that the battery charges and that the supplied charger is present before buying a second-hand machine.
What cleaning jobs is it designed for?
The manual limits the vacuum to domestic cleaning of dry dirt and dust from household carpets, flooring, walls and fabrics. It is not described as an industrial cleaner, and its dry-use restriction means it should not be used to collect wet spills. The stick configuration and motorized head suit floor cleaning in principle; the detachable handheld unit and included tools provide a way to clean smaller areas. The documentation does not establish actual pet-hair pickup or carpet deep-cleaning performance, so those capabilities should not be inferred from the “Animal” name or the presence of a motorized head.

Is the i-Vac Animal S50 discontinued?
Consumer NZ’s listing labels the 14120166 a “Discontinued model.” Its model entry was last updated 07/03/2014; the broader stick-vacuum guide is marked updated July 2025. The listing’s $299 price is historical context, not a current price. Discontinued status does not by itself establish whether a particular seller has old stock, whether parts remain available, or whether support is still offered.

What to check before buying a used or old-stock unit
Because performance and present-day parts availability are not established, inspect the specific vacuum and the seller’s terms rather than relying on the model name or a listing photo.
- Battery and charging: Ask the seller to demonstrate that the unit charges and runs. Confirm that the charger is included and check its label against the manual’s charger model, JOD-S-270050AU.
- Included parts: Check for the motorized powerhead, crevice tool, dusting brush and any other accessories the seller claims are included.
- Wear and cleanliness: Inspect the bin, filter, powerhead and brush roll for damage, heavy dirt or blockage; ask whether the filter has been replaced.
- Purchase terms: Confirm whether the seller accepts returns if the battery, charger or powerhead fails, and whether the stated condition and included items are recorded in the sale.
- Exact identity: Verify that the unit is model 14120166, not just another vacuum described as an i-Vac Animal S50.
The manual states a two-year parts-and-labour warranty for domestic use, beginning from the original purchase. It says coverage is non-transferable and valid only in the country of purchase, so that wording does not establish eligibility for a used or old-stock unit.

How to maintain it and identify common faults

- Empty the dust bin if it is full.
- The manual says to replace the filter every six months or when it is visibly dirty.
Roller brush does not spin
- Check the brush roll for hair or debris blocking it and remove the obstruction.
Cleaner will not switch on or cannot be charged
Check that the unit has been charged using its supplied charger and consult the instructions for the particular machine. The manual’s troubleshooting labels include “Cleaner will not switch on” and “The cleaner can’t be charged,” but the available information does not establish a model-specific repair procedure beyond following the manual and checking the charging setup.
