The GIGABYTE X870 AORUS INFINITY is an E-ATX AM5 motherboard for Ryzen 9000, 8000, and 7000 Series processors, with two DDR5 memory slots and a manufacturer-listed manual overclocking rate of up to 11,400 MT/s. That figure is not a guaranteed or typical out-of-box speed, and GIGABYTE’s performance claims have not been independently verified in the sources available. It may suit a build focused on high-speed memory, but buyers should verify CPU-specific support, memory compatibility, case fit, price, and availability before choosing it.
What the X870 AORUS INFINITY is—and what this review can establish
GIGABYTE positions the X870 AORUS INFINITY as a 40th-anniversary X870-series motherboard, announced on June 1, 2026. It uses AMD’s X870 chipset and AM5 socket, and GIGABYTE lists support for Ryzen 9000, 8000, and 7000 Series CPUs. Exact processor compatibility and any required BIOS version should be checked against the current CPU support list.
The available evidence establishes specifications and manufacturer claims, not hands-on results. There is no retail-board stability testing or independent benchmark data here, so this is a specification-based assessment rather than a tested performance review. A June 2, 2026 event report said pricing and availability had not been announced at COMPUTEX; that is historical event context, not evidence of current stock or pricing.
How fast is its DDR5 memory support?
The board has two DDR5 DIMM sockets configured for dual-channel memory and a stated maximum capacity of 128 GB. It supports both AMD EXPO and Intel XMP memory profiles. GIGABYTE’s current specification page lists rates up to 11,400 MT/s as a manual overclocking figure and says advanced BIOS tuning and specialized components are required. Actual results vary with the processor, memory kit, BIOS, settings, and operating conditions; the figure should not be treated as a guaranteed speed or plug-and-play expectation.

- AMD Socket AM5: Supports AMD Ryzen 9000 / Ryzen 8000 / Ryzen 7000 Series Processors
- DDR5 Compatible: 4 x DIMMs with AMD EXPO Support
- Power Design: 16 plus2 plus2
- Thermals: VRM and M.2 Thermal Guard
- Connectivity: PCIe 5.0, 4x M.2 Slots, Dual USB4, Front and Rear USB-C, Sensor Panel Link
For most buyers, the practical question is not whether the specification reaches an extreme number, but whether a particular kit can run reliably at its rated profile with the chosen CPU and BIOS. Check GIGABYTE’s current memory support list for the exact kit, capacity, and processor configuration. A listed maximum capacity alone does not establish that every 128 GB kit will operate at every advertised speed.
What GIGABYTE says about CL24
In its June 1, 2026 announcement, GIGABYTE said: “By pushing CL24 timing, twice as tight as standard timings, the motherboard delivers an impressive 20% speed advantage and achieves the lowest memory latency ever on the AMD X870 platform for a faster, more responsive gaming and computing experience.” This is the manufacturer’s claim. The available sources do not provide an independent test method or results validating the 20% figure, so it should not be read as a measured advantage in all systems or workloads.

CPU, PCIe, and storage depend on the processor
Although the board supports several Ryzen generations, its expansion and storage behavior is not identical with every CPU. GIGABYTE specifies a primary CPU-connected PCIe x16 slot whose operating mode varies by processor family. A second CPU-connected slot is available with Ryzen 9000 and 7000 processors, but not with the listed Ryzen 8000 Phoenix processors. For M.2 storage, the official specifications describe two CPU-attached PCIe 5.0 M.2 connectors with Ryzen 9000 and 7000, while Ryzen 8000 has processor-dependent PCIe 4.0 behavior. The board has additional storage connectors in its full specification table.
Before planning a graphics card, multiple NVMe drives, or add-in cards, consult the full specification table for the exact CPU. Do not assume every slot runs at the same mode or remains available across all supported processors.

Networking, USB, and physical fit
GIGABYTE lists 5GbE Ethernet, Qualcomm Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and USB4 Type-C. The manufacturer notes that Wi-Fi 7 features require Windows 11 SV3, 6 GHz channel availability depends on local regulations, and real throughput varies with equipment and environment. Bluetooth details may change with module updates.
The E-ATX board measures 30.5 cm × 27.5 cm. Confirm that the case supports this footprint and that the board’s size will not interfere with other components or cable routing. The official specifications and regional radio caveats are on GIGABYTE’s product specification page.

Who should consider it?
- Consider it if you are building an AM5 system, need its stated connectivity, and want a two-DIMM layout with high-speed memory tuning potential—provided the exact CPU, kit, and BIOS combination is supported.
- Check alternatives and requirements first if you need more than two memory slots, are constrained by case size, or depend on a particular PCIe or M.2 configuration. The processor-specific lane behavior matters as much as the chipset name.
- Wait for comparable testing if your purchase decision depends on the claimed latency or speed advantage. No independent benchmark or stability evidence for this exact board is established here.
To compare it fairly with another motherboard, look for reproducible tests using the same CPU, memory kit, BIOS approach, and stability criteria. Also compare the CPU-specific QVL, memory capacity, PCIe and M.2 lane behavior, networking and USB requirements, case fit, and verified local price and availability. Specifications alone do not establish a performance winner.

What to verify before buying
- Choose the exact Ryzen processor and check its entry on GIGABYTE’s current CPU support list, including the required BIOS version.
- Check the memory support list for your exact DDR5 kit and capacity. Treat 11,400 MT/s as a manual overclocking ceiling listed by GIGABYTE, not a promised operating speed.
- Use the full board specifications to confirm PCIe slot modes and M.2 behavior for that CPU.
- Confirm your case supports the 30.5 cm × 27.5 cm E-ATX footprint.
- Check current local price and availability; the June 2026 launch coverage does not establish either today.
GIGABYTE’s official specifications, CPU support list, and memory support list are the key checks for a specific build. The launch announcement is available from AORUS; Tom’s Hardware’s June 2, 2026 report provides event-era context on the launch.
