The New Balance FuelCell Rebel v5 is a neutral, soft-cushioned shoe positioned for everyday running and quick runs. Its 6 mm drop and low listed weight make it worth considering if you want one shoe for varied training, but “quick runs” does not make it a plated racing shoe. The strongest review evidence is one runner’s 40-mile experience, not a long-term durability or wet-weather test.

How does the Rebel v5 feel on a run?
Brand description versus reviewer experience
New Balance describes the FuelCell midsole as a PEBA/EVA blend and says it is designed to feel responsive and energetic. That is the manufacturer’s material and ride description; it is not an independent material analysis.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What its intended use means
New Balance lists everyday running and quick runs as the shoe’s best uses. That makes it a plausible option for a runner looking for a lightweight-feeling daily trainer that can also handle faster efforts. The positioning alone does not establish how it will perform for a particular pace, distance, or training plan.
The cited review describes the Rebel v5 as unplated, so runners specifically seeking a plated racing shoe should not treat “quick runs” as evidence that it serves that role.

How does the Rebel v5 fit?
New Balance says the shoe is designed for a snug fit and advises runners between sizes to consider sizing up. Its listing also says it fits as expected for most people and offers standard and wide widths for that product variant. Check the width and size options on the specific listing you are considering.
The Tom’s Guide reviewer found a comfortable fit in their usual running-shoe size and described the toe box as fairly wide. That individual fit report does not override the manufacturer’s snug-fit guidance or predict fit for every foot shape.

What does the available review evidence establish?
Tom’s Guide’s reviewer reported running 40 miles in the Rebel v5 and described the ride as comfortable and versatile. They also reported good grip during their testing, including on light trails. The reviewer had not tested the shoe in wet or icy conditions, so that account cannot establish traction in those conditions.
- A 40-mile report is not proof of long-term durability or a mileage-life estimate.
- One runner’s fit and ride impressions cannot guarantee the same experience for other runners.
- The grip comments should not be generalized to wet or icy surfaces.
Who should consider the FuelCell Rebel v5?
It is most relevant to runners looking for a neutral shoe with soft cushioning for everyday running and quicker training efforts, and who are comfortable evaluating a snug-fit shoe using its sizing guidance. Its published 6 mm drop and size-specific weights help frame the choice, while the review evidence is encouraging but limited to one runner’s experience.

Consider another type of shoe if your priority is a plated racer, if you need evidence of wet-weather traction, or if you want established long-term durability data. The available information does not provide a like-for-like comparison with other shoes, so it cannot establish that the Rebel v5 is a better choice than a named alternative.
