Yes—if you already own Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave on Nintendo Switch 2 and intend to play its planned stories, allies, and classes. The pass is less compelling if you only want the weapons available today, because Wave 1 is the only released content and the larger additions are scheduled for late 2026 and 2027. Nintendo bundles all three waves, so you cannot buy just Wave 1.
This assessment reflects the announced contents and timing available on October 15, 2026. The quality of Waves 2 and 3 cannot be judged until they launch.

What the Expansion Pass includes
The Fortune’s Weave Expansion Pass is digital downloadable content for Nintendo Switch 2. It is not a standalone game: you need the full Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave game to use it. Nintendo describes the package as access to “all three waves of content as they release.”

| Wave | Announced content | Availability | What is known about value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wave 1 | Prototype weapons for the four heroes, modeled after the Heroes’ Relics from Fire Emblem: Three Houses | Available October 14, 2026 | Immediate equipment-focused addition; no separate Wave 1 purchase |
| Wave 2 | Enlist the gods Aurora, Smyrnos, and Jurah; new wearable outfits | Scheduled for holiday/winter 2026 | Release window is announced, but detailed mechanics and scope are not |
| Wave 3 | New stories featuring Bertrand, Talimun, Orchel, and Anatolia; recruitable allies and classes | Scheduled for 2027 | The largest announced story and strategy additions, but launch details are unverified |
The pass therefore has two different kinds of value: something usable immediately in Wave 1 and a reservation for future story and gameplay content. If you buy now, you are paying partly for content that will not exist in the game until later release windows.
#1 Best Overall
- Here, order is maintained by the Church of Seiros from its headquarters at Garreg Mach Monastery, home to the Officers Academy, where you’re invited to teach one of its three mighty houses: The Black Eagles, The Blue Lions, and The Golden Deer.
- Which house will you choose?
- As its professor, you must lead your students in class and in tactical RPG battles wrought with strategic, new twists to overcome.
Wave 1: what you receive now
Prototype weapons for four heroes
Wave 1 adds prototype weapons for the game’s four heroes. Nintendo says these weapons are modeled after the Heroes’ Relics in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. The announcement establishes the theme and recipients, but it does not state weapon statistics, unique effects, upgrade requirements, or whether the items materially change campaign balance.
That makes Wave 1 easiest to evaluate for players who are already committed to another playthrough and enjoy experimenting with equipment. It is a much weaker reason to buy the entire pass if you are looking for a substantial new campaign immediately: the announced story, ally, and class content belongs to Wave 3, not the launch wave.
What is coming in Waves 2 and 3
Wave 2: gods and outfits
Wave 2 is scheduled for the holiday/winter 2026 period. It will let you enlist Aurora, Smyrnos, and Jurah, and will add new wearable outfits. Nintendo has not published a firm day, the recruitment rules, the gods’ combat roles, outfit restrictions, or any associated story length in the information currently available.
Because the release window spans part of a season rather than naming a date, do not treat Wave 2 as available when purchasing on October 15, 2026. It is announced content, not delivered content.

- Command Fire Emblem: Three Houses characters like Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude in epic real-time battles
- Play through three distinct storylines set in the Fire Emblem: Three Houses universe, each with a different ending, from the point of view of a new protagonist, Shez.
- Combine the action-packed Warriors-style gameplay with the strategy and style of the Fire Emblem series
- Fight through hordes of enemies with Fire Emblem: Three Houses characters and their distinct abilities
- Use Fire Emblem series mechanics like the weapons triangle, character classes, crests, and battalions to tailor your strategy
Wave 3: new stories, allies, and classes
Wave 3 is scheduled for 2027 and is the pass’s biggest announced expansion. It will feature new stories involving Bertrand, Talimun, Orchel, and Anatolia, along with recruitable allies and classes. Those additions could have the greatest effect on replayability and team-building, but the announcement does not establish how many chapters, characters, classes, or hours of play they contain.
There are no independent review scores, completion-time reports, player surveys, or hands-on tests available to verify the eventual quality or amount of Wave 3. Consider its contents a confirmed plan, not a tested product, when deciding whether to prepay.
Price, platform, and purchase requirements
| Item | Published price | Requirement or qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Expansion Pass | $49.99 | Listed by Nintendo of Canada in 2026; the page does not identify the currency code, so this figure should not be relabeled as US dollars or another currency |
| Game-plus-pass bundle | $144.99 | Listed by Nintendo of Canada in 2026; includes the base game and pass |
- You need a Nintendo Switch 2.
- You need the full digital or physical version of Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave; the pass cannot be used by itself.
- The pass is digital DLC. It is not a separate physical product.
- Nintendo does not sell the waves individually.
The published figures come from a Nintendo of Canada page whose currency code is not stated in the cited information. Check the price and region shown by your own Nintendo eShop account before payment; do not assume that $49.99 is a US-dollar price.
Can you buy only Wave 1?
No. Individual waves cannot be purchased separately. A purchase of the Expansion Pass grants the three-wave package, with each wave becoming available when Nintendo releases it.
Rank #3
- The Officers Academy is home to three houses: The Black Eagles with house leader Edelgard, The Blue Lions with house leader Dimitri, and The Golden Deer with house leader Claude
- As a professor, lead students in their academic lives and on the battlefield
- A turn-based, tactical RPG that puts new twists on strategic battling
- Freely roam Garreg Mach Monastery and interact with students in a variety of ways to bond with them. In the classroom, tutor your students to help them
- Grow in the skill sets required to become specific classes
This all-or-nothing structure is the most important purchasing constraint. If you want only the prototype weapons, there is no official Wave 1-only option. You must either buy the pass and accept the future-content commitment or wait for more information before spending.
Who should buy now
Buy now if you already own the base game
Existing owners avoid paying for a second copy of the game and can use Wave 1 immediately. The pass also secures access to the announced gods, outfits, stories, allies, and classes without requiring a later purchase decision. This is the clearest fit for players who know they will keep playing through 2027.
Buy now if future strategy content is your priority
Players most interested in new recruitable allies and classes have a concrete reason to reserve the pass, even though those features are scheduled for Wave 3. The decision is a commitment to Nintendo’s announced roadmap rather than a judgment based on playable Wave 3 content.

The pass is suitable for someone comfortable receiving a small first drop, a winter 2026 update, and a 2027 story-focused update instead of one complete expansion at launch. You may need to return to the game between waves, and the announcement does not promise a single release date for the whole package.

Who should wait
Wait if you want evidence about the later waves
Waiting lets you judge Wave 2’s recruitment and outfit features and see the actual scale of Wave 3’s stories, allies, and classes. No independent quality or length data is available yet, so waiting is rational if you do not normally preorder downloadable content.
Wait if Wave 1 is all you want
The prototype weapons are the only released feature as of October 15, 2026, and there is no cheaper Wave 1 purchase. If equipment additions do not justify a $49.99 listing in your region, the pass currently offers no smaller commitment.
Wait if you do not yet own the game or console
The pass adds to the cost of a Nintendo Switch 2 and the base game. Buying it before deciding whether you want the main game reverses the sensible order: choose the platform and base game first, then decide whether the announced DLC fits your plans.
A practical buy-or-wait decision
- Confirm your platform. The pass requires Nintendo Switch 2, not an earlier Switch model according to the stated product requirement.
- Confirm that you own the complete base game. The DLC is not playable on its own.
- Check the regional eShop listing. Nintendo of Canada lists $49.99 for the pass and $144.99 for the game-plus-pass bundle, but the cited page does not identify the currency code.
- Separate immediate value from promised value. Wave 1 is available now; Wave 2 is scheduled for holiday/winter 2026; Wave 3 is scheduled for 2027.
- Decide whether an all-three-waves purchase suits you. If you would buy only weapons or only one later feature, there is no matching individual-wave option.
- Choose your timing. Buy now for guaranteed access to the announced roadmap and immediate Wave 1 access; wait if you need reviews, exact dates, or details about the later content.
How to purchase without buying the wrong product
- Open the Nintendo eShop or Nintendo’s official store for the Nintendo Switch 2 account and region you will use.
- Search for Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Expansion Pass, not a similarly named accessory or a physical game listing.
- Read the product description to verify that it says the pass requires the full game and includes all three waves.
- Check the displayed regional price and confirm whether your account already owns the base game.
- Complete the digital purchase. Wave 1 should be available from October 14, 2026; later waves will unlock when Nintendo releases them.
If you are buying the game for the first time, Nintendo also lists a game-plus-pass bundle at $144.99 on its Canadian news page. Compare the bundle’s displayed regional price with separate purchases in your own store rather than assuming a saving from the figures alone.
Best Value
- Enter the Dagdan Empire—a prosperous land ruled by the gods—and compete in the Heroic Games for the chance to be granted one wish
- Play as four heroes competing in the Heroic Games whose fortunes are tied to the fate of the world
- Prepare for each match of the Heroic Games by exploring Dagda and its capital city of Dagsion
- Learn skills at the training grounds, recruit allies and build bonds of friendship, and explore beyond Dagsion’s walls to gain experience
- Use everything you have at your disposal, including your heroes’ special abilities, to turn the tide of battle
What the announcement does not establish
A careful buying decision has to distinguish confirmed scope from missing details. Nintendo has announced the identities of the Wave 2 gods, the Wave 3 story characters, and the broad categories of content, but it has not established the following in the available product information:
- Exact release dates for Waves 2 and 3
- Number of chapters, missions, or hours in the new stories
- Statistics, skills, or balance impact for the prototype weapons
- Combat roles or recruitment conditions for Aurora, Smyrnos, and Jurah
- Number and type of outfits
- How many allies and classes Wave 3 will add
- Independent quality assessments or completion-time measurements
Those omissions do not mean the content will be poor; they mean the $49.99 decision cannot honestly be justified with claims about quality or quantity that have not been published or tested.
Verdict
For a current owner who plans a long-term Fortune’s Weave campaign, the Expansion Pass is a reasonable buy now: Wave 1 is live, and the pass locks in the announced later stories, gods, outfits, allies, and classes. For everyone else, waiting is the safer choice. The pass is mandatory as a three-wave bundle, its largest additions are delayed until 2027, and the later content has not yet been independently evaluated.
