When does the FDA’s wearable blood-pressure warning apply?
On September 16, 2025, the FDA warned about unauthorized devices that claim to measure or estimate blood pressure, including software features on wearables. The agency says those devices have not been evaluated for safety and effectiveness. If your care depends on accurate blood-pressure readings, check whether the device is FDA-authorized and ask your health care provider which measurement method to use. Do not change medication based on an unverified wearable reading.
Is the FDA’s Varipulse notice about this band?
No. The February 2025 FDA notice concerns Biosense Webster’s Varipulse Bi-Directional Ablation Catheter, an invasive device used during cardiac procedures—not a consumer smart band. In the first 132 procedures of a limited U.S. evaluation of the catheter, four patients—about 3%—had a stroke or transient ischemic attack. The FDA said that was above the expected frequency for the type of procedure, typically 1% or less, and described updates to the catheter’s use instructions after the company investigated procedural differences. Those figures concern that catheter evaluation alone; they are not a risk estimate for the BioSense Pro band.

- Identify the exact product and claim. Check the device name, manufacturer, model, and whether it claims to measure blood pressure or another health metric.
