The CHiQ CRBM227NW3 is a 231 L retro-white bottom-mount refrigerator with a 161 L fridge and 70 L freezer. Its compact width and listed features may suit a smaller household, but the publicly visible evidence does not establish how well it performs in independent testing. CHOICE says it tested the model in 2025, but its rating and detailed results are behind member access.
Is the CHiQ CRBM227NW3 any good?
It looks like a practical small-capacity option if you want a bottom freezer, three freezer drawers and a retro-white finish. CHiQ lists frost-free operation, multi-air flow, electronic temperature control, Fast Cool, adjustable glass shelves and interior LED lighting. Those are specifications, not proof of cooling consistency, noise performance or overall quality.
CHOICE’s public review page identifies the model as an extra-small, under-300 L freezer-on-bottom refrigerator and says it was tested in 2025. How much space does the CRBM227NW3 have?

At 231 L, this is a small refrigerator by CHOICE’s under-300 L classification, rather than a large family model. Consider the 161 L fresh-food section separately from the headline total: if you regularly store bulky produce, drinks or meal-prep containers, the fridge compartment may be the more important constraint.

Will this fridge fit in my kitchen?
The product itself measures 540 mm wide × 1765 mm high × 627 mm deep. CHiQ specifies that the depth measurement is without the handle, so allow for additional projection if the handle affects the available clearance. CHOICE lists a larger recommended installation envelope of 640 mm wide × 1820 mm high × 680 mm deep; use that envelope for an initial space check rather than treating the appliance dimensions as the full opening needed. The manufacturer sheet and manual specify 50 mm clearance at the back and each side. The manual says the refrigerator is for freestanding installation, not recessing or building in. Check the delivery route too: doorways, hallways and turns can be tighter than the final space.

- Measure the width, height and depth of the intended position, including skirting boards, overhead cupboards and the handle.
- Allow the specified 50 mm at the rear and both sides, and confirm the door can open enough for access to shelves and drawers.
- Place it on a level, strong floor near a grounded outlet; keep ventilation openings clear.

How much electricity does it use?
CHOICE’s 2025 model listing gives a four-star energy rating and claimed annual energy use of 237 kWh. The public page does not show its detailed energy or performance test results, so the figure should be treated as the listed claim—not as a measurement of every household’s consumption. Actual use can vary with room temperature, settings, ventilation, door opening and the amount and temperature of food stored.

For a useful comparison, check another refrigerator’s annual kWh figure and star rating on the same basis, then compare capacity and installation fit as well. A higher-capacity model may use more electricity overall while providing more storage; annual energy use alone does not tell you how much energy is used per litre.

The manual describes temperature settings from 1 to 5: setting 5 is coldest, and setting 3 is recommended for normal use. Fast Cool runs for up to 30 hours and then returns to the previous setting. These are operating instructions, not independent evidence that food cools faster or stays at a particular temperature.
What warranty does CHiQ list?
CHiQ’s specification sheet states three years of fridge coverage. It describes compressor coverage as three years of parts and labour, plus seven additional years of compressor parts. The exact terms that apply can depend on the written warranty supplied for the purchase, so confirm the coverage, exclusions and claim process with the seller or CHiQ before buying. Who should consider the CRBM227NW3?
- Consider it if you need a freestanding refrigerator around 231 L, prefer a bottom freezer, and can accommodate the specified ventilation space.
- Look more closely at alternatives if you need substantially more fresh-food or freezer capacity, require a built-in installation, or need independently visible performance and noise results before deciding.
