The Canon PIXMA PRO-200S is a print-only, 13-inch photo printer for photographers and printmakers who want to produce large, finished prints at home or in a small studio. Its eight-color dye-ink system supports glossy, semi-gloss, matte, and fine-art media, with borderless printing up to 13 x 19 inches. Its main trade-off is practical: you need space for a large printer and budget for ink and paper. It does not scan or copy.

What the PRO-200S is built to do

This is a dedicated photo printer, not an all-in-one office machine. Canon specifies an eight-color dye-based ink system, up to 4800 x 2400 dpi, and ChromaLife100+ on its U.S. support page. Canon’s product information identifies the CLI-65 ink family and the eight-color system, including black, gray, and light gray.

The gray inks give the printer dedicated grayscale channels, but specifications alone do not establish how every monochrome print will look across different papers and settings. Tom’s Guide reported quick output and high-quality color and monochrome prints in its hands-on review published May 29, 2026; those observations describe that reviewer’s experience, not a guarantee for every setup.

Print sizes, borderless output, and feeds

Canon’s U.S. specifications list borderless printing from 3.5 x 5 inches through 13 x 19 inches (A3+). Supported formats include small square prints, postcards, 4 x 6, 5 x 7, 8 x 10, Letter, Ledger, and A3+. Canon also lists panoramic formats, including 210 x 594 mm and custom sizes up to 13 x 39 inches. See the official specifications for the U.S. model.

  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

The printer has a top feed, manual feed, and multipurpose tray. Canon specifies capacity for up to 100 sheets of plain paper in the top feed; limits for photo and larger media depend on the paper and format. The maximum custom length makes panoramas possible, but check the loading instructions and settings for the specific media before buying paper.

Canon lists Pro Platinum, Plus Glossy II, Photo Paper Glossy, Plus Semi-Gloss, Pro Luster, Matte Photo Paper, Premium Matte, and Premium Fine Art Rough. Paper size and media compatibility vary by market; Canon’s media guide notes that available media types and sizes differ by country or region. Confirm compatibility on your local Canon support site rather than assuming every U.S.-listed paper is sold or supported where you live.

What the review evidence says about print quality

Tom’s Guide’s May 29, 2026 hands-on review describes the PRO-200S as producing quick, high-quality color and monochrome prints. The review also flags Wi-Fi setup as a drawback. These are the reviewer’s findings; the available evidence does not establish a universal result across computers, networks, paper types, or print settings.

RTINGS’ comparison of the PRO-200S and PRO-200 says the newer S is nearly identical in features, while its testing found differences in color accuracy and fine-detail reproduction. That makes intended output relevant: if color matching or very fine detail is central to your work, examine RTINGS’ comparison alongside your own requirements rather than assuming the suffix represents a simple upgrade.

Ink use and ownership costs

Tom’s Guide reported eight included starter tanks, each 12.6 ml, and relayed Canon’s estimated yield of 139 A3+ monochrome prints or 860 monochrome 4 x 6-inch photos. Those are Canon estimates reported by the reviewer, not a promise of mixed-color yield or a reliable cost-per-print figure. Actual use will depend on image coverage, size, settings, cleaning, and media.

The printer uses individual CLI-65 cartridges, so a depleted color can be replaced separately. Cartridge availability and prices vary by region and date; compare local replacement costs with how often and how large you plan to print. Paper is another ongoing expense, especially when choosing premium glossy or fine-art media. Canon’s supported paper list and availability vary by market, as noted in its manual.

How the PRO-200S compares with the PRO-200

RTINGS characterizes the two printers as nearly identical in features but reports that, in its testing, the PRO-200S had weaker color accuracy and fine-detail reproduction, better black page yield, and lower color page yield than the PRO-200. These findings are specific to RTINGS’ comparison; they do not establish that every user will see the same differences or that either model is universally better.

Compare the models at current local prices and weigh the output that matters to you: color matching, fine detail, monochrome work, and expected color-ink use. Also check cartridge availability and the print sizes and papers supported in your region. For a different ink approach, a pigment-ink printer may be worth considering if your priorities call for it, but the available evidence here does not establish a direct comparison with a particular pigment model.

Size, setup, and practical fit

Tom’s Guide lists dimensions of 25.2 x 15 x 7.9 inches and a weight of 32 lb, and says the printer takes substantial desk space. Treat these as figures reported in that review. Measure the intended location with room for paper handling and access to the feeds, rather than planning around the printer’s body alone.

Because the PRO-200S is print-only, it makes sense when you already have a way to scan or copy, or simply do not need those functions. If Wi-Fi printing is part of your workflow, account for the setup issue noted by Tom’s Guide and verify that your chosen connection method works reliably in your own workspace.

Price context and buying decision

Tom’s Guide’s May 29, 2026 review cited a price observation of $647 / £459 and earlier sale pricing of $429 / £367. These are dated figures from that article, not current quotes or guaranteed offers. Check the retailer and local Canon store for today’s price, and factor in the cost of replacement ink and the papers you expect to use.

The PRO-200S is a sensible candidate if you regularly want prints larger than standard home-printer sizes, value a choice of photo and fine-art papers, and are comfortable managing a dedicated printer’s footprint and consumables. If your routine is mostly document printing, scanning, or occasional small snapshots, its 13-inch capability may not justify the space and running costs.
