Yes, within limits: Bose rates the SoundLink Flex Portable Speaker (2nd Gen) IP67 and says it can withstand accidental immersion in water for up to 30 minutes at a depth of up to 1 m (3.3 ft). It floats, but Bose says it is not designed to be used in water. If it gets wet, rinse away salt or pool water with fresh water and let the speaker and charging port dry completely before charging or operating it.

What Bose’s IP67 rating means for this speaker

Bose describes the SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen) as dust- and waterproof and gives it an IP67 rating. For a buyer, the useful part is the manufacturer’s stated limit: the speaker is designed to withstand accidental drops in water for up to 30 minutes, with the owner’s guide specifying water up to 1 m (3.3 ft) deep. Bose cautions against submerging it deeper.

Those figures describe a limited protection condition, not permission to treat the speaker as underwater equipment. Bose explicitly says the speaker is not designed to be used while in water. The rating is best understood as protection for an accident, such as an unintended fall into water, rather than a feature for listening while swimming or leaving the speaker submerged.

The 30-minute and 1 m (3.3 ft) figures are Bose’s stated guidance in its owner’s guide; the retrieved document listing does not state a publication date. They should not be read as an independent laboratory result: no separate test report or independently measured statistic is established here. Nor does the rating promise protection against every kind of water exposure or every form of damage.

Can you use the speaker in a pool or while swimming?

No. Floating and water resistance do not make the SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen) an underwater speaker. Bose says it floats, but also says it is not designed to be used while in water. Keep it out of the water during normal playback rather than placing it in a pool, holding it underwater, or leaving it to float during use.

Floating is useful context if the speaker accidentally falls into water: it may remain at the surface rather than sink. It does not establish that the speaker is stable in waves, will stay in one place, or can play reliably while floating. Bose’s guidance is about accidental exposure, not continuous aquatic use.

The same distinction matters when deciding whether to bring it near water. The IP67 rating supports the stated accidental-immersion condition, but the available Bose guidance does not establish separate limits for other situations such as prolonged exposure, forceful water jets, or every type of wet environment. Do not extend the 1 m and 30-minute figures into a broader guarantee.

What to do after water exposure

After fresh-water immersion

If the speaker has been accidentally immersed within Bose’s stated limit, take it out of the water and let it dry thoroughly before using it. Most importantly, do not connect a charger while the speaker or its connector port is wet. Bose says the port must be fully dry before charging and advises letting the speaker dry completely before operating it.

After saltwater or pool-water exposure

Saltwater and chlorinated water leave residues that fresh water can wash away. Bose instructs users to gently rinse the speaker with fresh water after exposure to salt or chlorinated water. Keep the rinse gentle; the guidance is not an instruction to blast the speaker with a high-pressure stream.

  1. Remove the speaker from the water and stop using it.
  2. After saltwater or chlorinated-water contact, gently rinse it with fresh water.
  3. Allow the speaker to dry thoroughly, including the connector port.
  4. Charge it only after the port is completely dry; do not charge it while wet.

The drying requirement applies even if the speaker appears dry on its exterior. Bose specifically calls out the connector port, so do not assume that a dry-looking case means the port is ready for a cable.

How to clean the SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen)

For everyday exterior cleaning, Bose recommends using a soft cloth on larger surfaces and avoiding detergents. If debris is lodged in the charging port or another part of the speaker, Bose says it can be gently rinsed away with fresh water or removed with compressed air. Clean gently rather than inserting objects into the port or using a forceful jet.

  • For the exterior: Wipe larger surfaces with a soft cloth.
  • For salt or chlorine residue: Gently rinse with fresh water after exposure.
  • For debris around the port: Gently rinse with fresh water or use compressed air.
  • Avoid: Detergents and charging before the connector port is fully dry.

Water resistance is not a reason to skip cleaning or drying. Follow the fresh-water rinse guidance when salt or chlorine is involved, and let the speaker dry completely before returning to normal operation.

Limits the IP67 rating does not settle

A rating is useful only when its limits are respected. Bose’s material supports an IP67 rating, accidental immersion up to 1 m (3.3 ft) for up to 30 minutes, flotation, and specific rinse-and-dry instructions. It does not establish protection for every possible exposure or make the speaker suitable for underwater playback.

  • Longer immersion: The stated duration is up to 30 minutes; do not treat it as permission for longer submersion.
  • Continuous use in water: Bose says the speaker is not designed to be used in water.
  • Other exposure types: The cited Bose guidance does not establish separate guarantees for every type of water contact or damage scenario.
  • Warranty coverage: An IP67 rating alone does not establish whether water damage is covered by Bose’s standard limited warranty. Check the current warranty terms for the applicable region and purchase.

That last distinction is important: a product can have a stated resistance rating without that rating answering every question about repair or warranty coverage. Do not infer coverage from the IP67 label alone.

A practical decision guide

If it accidentally falls into water

Retrieve it promptly. If the water was salty or chlorinated, gently rinse with fresh water. Let the speaker and port dry fully before operation or charging. The manufacturer’s stated accidental-immersion parameters are up to 30 minutes and up to 1 m (3.3 ft); deeper or longer exposure is outside the stated guidance.

If you want music during swimming

Choose a different setup rather than using this speaker in the water. Bose says the SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen) floats but is not designed to be used while in water. Keeping it poolside is consistent with that limitation; submerging it for playback is not.

If the speaker has salt or pool residue

Gently rinse with fresh water, then let it dry completely. Do not connect the charger until the connector port is fully dry.

If you are unsure whether an exposure is covered

Do not assume that a water-resistant rating guarantees protection in that situation. Bose’s published guidance gives a specific depth and duration for accidental immersion, plus care directions for salt and chlorinated water. For exposures outside those conditions or questions about repair, consult Bose’s current product and warranty information.

Bottom line for owners

The SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen) is water-resistant to Bose’s IP67 rating and is specified for accidental immersion up to 1 m (3.3 ft) for up to 30 minutes. Treat that as a safety margin for an accident, not an invitation to operate it underwater. Rinse off salt or chlorinated water gently, dry the speaker and connector port completely, and never charge it while wet.
