The Bose QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen) add Immersive Audio, a refreshed fit and design, and an updated Aware Mode to Bose’s standard over-ear QuietComfort line. The upgrades may appeal if you want those features, but whether they justify the price depends on the current gap between this model and discounted first-generation headphones—and on how much you value battery life and wear detection.
Which Bose QuietComfort model is this?
This is the 2026 update to Bose’s non-Ultra QuietComfort over-ear headphones, announced on August 6, 2026, according to TechRadar. It is not the QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen), a separate model. The distinction matters when comparing prices and features.
Bose’s UK product page describes the standard model’s new features and listening modes: Bose QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen).
What’s new in the second generation?
TrueSpatial and Immersive Audio
Bose adds TrueSpatial technology and an Immersive Audio listening mode. Immersive Audio is the headline functional addition over the first-generation standard QuietComfort headphones. Whether it matters to you comes down to whether you prefer that listening presentation; it is a reason to consider the new model, not a guarantee that everyone will hear a worthwhile improvement.

Refreshed fit and styling
Bose describes a refreshed signature design with pill-shaped earcups and a wider sliding headband. Tom’s Guide and TechRadar both praise comfort in their reviews, though those are reviewers’ assessments rather than a guarantee that the fit will suit every head shape. [Tom’s Guide; TechRadar]
Updated Aware Mode and controls
Aware Mode now includes ActiveSense, which Bose says adjusts noise cancellation when loud sounds occur. Bose lists Quiet, Aware, Immersion, Cinema, and Off as listening modes. Tom’s Guide also notes physical buttons and 10 levels of ANC adjustment as strengths in its review.

How do reviews assess comfort, noise cancellation, and sound?
Tom’s Guide highlights the plush padding, intuitive physical buttons, and effective ANC, with 10 adjustment levels. It also criticizes the lack of wear detection and describes battery life as middle-of-the-pack. TechRadar’s reviewer praises sound and comfort but is less positive about battery life and value. These are editorial judgments from those reviews, not standardized laboratory results. [Tom’s Guide; TechRadar]
The available review material does not establish a comparable independent lab statistic for noise cancellation or battery performance. Treat ANC and comfort as review impressions, and use the battery figure as Bose’s qualified product claim rather than an independently measured result.

How does it compare with the first-generation model?
The main documented reasons to choose the second generation are Immersive Audio, the refreshed design, and the updated ActiveSense version of Aware Mode. For a buyer who chiefly wants conventional ANC headphones and comfortable over-ear listening, the older model’s discount can matter more than those additions.

Should you buy the QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen)?
- Consider them if Immersive Audio and the updated Aware Mode are features you expect to use, or if the refreshed fit appeals and the price premium over the previous model is modest for you.
- Consider the first generation instead if the current discount is substantial and you mainly want comfort and ANC rather than the new listening mode or design updates.
- Look closely at alternatives if you need wear detection or prioritize longer battery life; the second-generation model lacks wear detection, and both review sources raise battery life as a drawback.
Before ordering, compare the live prices of both generations and check what is included in the listing. Bose has a model-specific ear cushion replacement support article; confirm exact compatibility before purchasing replacement cushions or other accessories.
